Chapter 5: He Will No Longer Serve the Shen Siblings!
The rain was still falling, and Liang Sheng still lay there motionless, letting the rainwater wash over his already freezing body.
He looked helplessly at the man who would never feel a hint of heartache over his injuries again. Tears once again blurred his vision, as if he were trapped in a silent storm, left to the mercy of the tearing pain.
In a daze, Liang Sheng seemed to see the youth from his college years, pulling him and running in the rain to escape debt collectors.
The youth had draped his jacket over his head. Even though he himself was soaked through, he couldn’t bear to let a single drop of rain touch him.
How did things turn out like this?
The youth of the past would never have been as heartless as this man, nor would he have thrown him alone into the rain to fend for himself.
Liang Sheng couldn’t hold back a pained sob. Finally, amidst the invasion of the cold, he passed out.
Shen Xingyu narrowed his eyes in frustration. Was it really that hard to yield to him and act affectionately?
Liang Sheng on the ground stopped moving.
Only then did he feel a bit of panic. He pushed Qin Lou, “Check on him.”
Qin Lou stepped forward, squatted down, and shook the unresponsive youth. He said to the man, “President Shen, he has fainted.”
Hearing this, Shen Xingyu’s frown deepened. He hurried through the rain toward Liang Sheng and flipped the person who was lying on his side over.
It was then he saw Liang Sheng’s pale lips devoid of any color, his messy hair, and his icy face.
A rare trace of nervousness appeared on Shen Xingyu’s face. He picked him up horizontally, only to unexpectedly find that Liang Sheng was very light, like a sheet of white paper that could be blown away by a gust of wind.
The person in his arms had his eyes shut tightly. A few raindrops hung precariously from his long eyelashes, looking extremely pitiful.
“I won’t let you die. Don’t even think about escaping me. Not in this lifetime.”
Shen Xingyu murmured softly. The pitch-black eyes contained a terrifying possessiveness. He held the fragile person in his arms tighter and strode toward the car.
…
That heavy downpour gave Liang Sheng a high fever. Combined with the excessive grief from his mother’s passing, he remained unconscious for a full two days and two nights.
The next morning.
A ray of sunlight filtered through the window screen and fell onto the youth’s pale face. His eyelashes fluttered slightly, but before he could completely break free from his half-asleep state, a basin of cold water was suddenly splashed fiercely over his face from above.
Liang Sheng gasped, opening his eyes in shock, the cold water blurring his vision.
He wiped his face and saw a girl standing by the bed holding a water basin. Her pretty eyes held unabashed arrogance and willfulness.
It was Shen Xingyu’s younger sister, Shen Tingwan.
“Tingwan, w-what are you doing?”
Liang Sheng sat up unsteadily on the bed, looking at her in bewilderment.
“Have you slept enough? Brother said you were sick, but you look perfectly fine to me! Hurry up and make me food, I’m hungry!”
Shen Tingwan tossed the water basin aside and sat angrily on a chair, her snow-white princess dress accentuating her noble air.
Liang Sheng’s heart grew cold along with that basin of water.
He used to pity Shen Tingwan because her parents were divorced, and she had grown up without love. Knowing she had a withdrawn personality, he tried his best to take care of her, giving her warmth and care, and fulfilling her every request.
But in the end, what he got in return was only her escalating torment and an attitude that never once treated him as a sister-in-law.
Shen Tingwan felt a shudder in her heart from Liang Sheng’s dazed stare, and she became even angrier at his disregard for her request.
She walked over, roughly grabbed the youth’s arm, and yelled at the top of her lungs, “Get up! Go make food for this young miss! Are you trying to starve me? Get down here!”
For the first time, Liang Sheng shook her off. He hadn’t yet recovered from the sorrow of his mother’s death. Right now, he didn’t want to move at all, so he powerlessly refused:
“Ask Auntie Chen to make it for you. I’m tired.”
Shen Tingwan hadn’t expected him to actually disobey her order, and she stomped her foot in anger.
In her heart, Liang Sheng was just a nanny her brother had found, not a sister-in-law. She was already accustomed to Liang Sheng fawning over the two siblings.
Being rejected now, her princess temper instantly flared up. She forcefully dragged Liang Sheng from the bed to the floor, then aggressively stomped on him twice, commanding haughtily:
“Hmph! Don’t you know I don’t like the food Auntie Chen makes? You dare refuse this young miss! Go make it right now!”
Liang Sheng was so weak he couldn’t even crawl up.
Seeing him stay motionless, Shen Tingwan’s originally bright eyes widened into circles. Her small nose flared rapidly as she placed her hands on her hips and said furiously:
“I’m so mad! Even my brother doesn’t love you! How dare you disobey this young miss? Believe it or not, I’ll have you thrown out of the Shen family!”
Upon hearing this, Liang Sheng trembled timidly, but he didn’t lower his head submissively as he used to. It seemed that whether he left the Shen family or not didn’t matter anymore.
His mother’s death had caused his only mental pillar to collapse.
“You don’t believe me, do you? I’ll have someone throw you out right now!”
Shen Tingwan never thought her words would be ineffective against Liang Sheng. Exasperated, she yelled:
“Someone come here!”
A few servants ran in. Seeing the disheveled Liang Sheng on the floor and the furious Shen Tingwan, they didn’t dare to breathe too loudly: “Miss, what are your orders?”
“Throw this disobedient bitch out of the Shen family for me!”
“This… Miss, he is the Young Madam, we don’t dare…”
The servants looked at each other in dismay. Compared to angering the eldest miss in front of them, they were more afraid of Shen Xingyu.
“You don’t dare? He dared to disobey this young miss’s orders, which means he’s going against me! If you all won’t listen to my words either, do you want me to give you a taste of suffering too?!”
Shen Tingwan’s face was livid with anger as she viciously threatened the servants.
The servants were startled and nodded hastily: “Rest assured, Miss, we will absolutely obey your orders!”
“Then go do it!”
Seeing the obedient servants lift Liang Sheng and throw him out of the Shen family, Shen Tingwan finally smiled in satisfaction.
“N-no…”
Liang Sheng protested weakly, but it was futile. He watched helplessly as the main gate slowly closed, watching Shen Tingwan inside the gate flash him a provocative smile, his heart breaking.
Why…
He hadn’t done anything wrong. He had compromised for the greater good for so many years, only to end up being discarded in the end.
Liang Sheng was completely disappointed.
He stood up unsteadily, took one last teary look at the Shen residence, and turned to leave.
This was his home, yet it didn’t belong to him. Every blade of grass, every tree, every brick, and every tile here had nothing to do with him.
The Shen family, and the Shen siblings, he, Liang Sheng, would no longer serve them!
…
When Shen Xingyu returned in the evening, he didn’t see Liang Sheng. He was nowhere to be found.
At the dining table, Shen Tingwan was eating as if nothing had happened.
“Where is your sister-in-law? Where did he go?”
Shen Tingwan lifted a pair of innocent big eyes and shook her head, looking completely different from the arrogant girl who had thrown Liang Sheng out that afternoon:
“Sister-in-law? I don’t know! I’ve been at school all day and just got back. Maybe he went out to play!”
