Chapter 6: Liang Sheng Just Can’t Leave Him
“Went out to play?”
Shen Xingyu frowned, clearly not believing this excuse. He looked toward the silent servant standing by the side, “Where did he go?”
Liang Sheng had been keeping to himself these years, rarely stepping out the front door, let alone going out to play. He didn’t even have a single friend here.
The servant shuddered. She subconsciously glanced at Shen Tingwan, who was humming while eating, and then quickly shook her head: “R-reporting to President Shen, the Young Madam left early in the morning. We don’t know where he went either…”
As soon as she finished speaking, Shen Xingyu’s face instantly changed. He scolded sharply, “Liar!”
The servant was terrified, complaining bitterly in her heart that offending either side would lead to death. She immediately knelt down to beg for mercy: “President Shen, please don’t be angry! I really don’t know where the Young Madam went!”
Seeing her trembling non-stop, Shen Xingyu saw no point in continuing to interrogate her. He turned to look at his sister, who was playing on her phone, already understanding the situation in his heart. Still, he asked with a superficial smile:
“Tingwan, do you really not know?”
Seeing that the man didn’t trust her, Shen Tingwan grew a bit annoyed: “Brother, I already told you I just got back from school. How would I know! Are you suspecting that I kicked sister-in-law out?”
Shen Xingyu sneered, “Do I even need to suspect? Have you kicked him out infrequently over the years?”
Being exposed, Shen Tingwan gave up acting. She crossed her arms and said proudly: “Hmph! That’s right! I did throw him out! Who told him to be disobedient!”
“Shen Tingwan, taking matters into your own hands again!”
Shen Xingyu rarely lost his temper like this. In the past, he would absolutely never get angry at his sister because of Liang Sheng. But today, for some reason, especially when he thought of Liang Sheng’s perfunctory attitude, his anger flared up uncontrollably.
Shen Tingwan was also surprised by her brother’s abnormal behavior. She pouted unhappily and said nonchalantly, “Brother, what are you angry about? Don’t you dislike that simp? Throwing him out just keeps him out of sight. He’ll come back on his own anyway.”
Shen Xingyu took a deep breath, forcefully suppressing the irritation in his heart. It was true. No matter how many times Liang Sheng was thrown out, he would always shamelessly come back obediently. After all, besides the Shen family, the other party had nowhere else to go.
Thinking of this, he regained his composure. Looking at his puffed-up sister, he questioned coldly: “Your counselor called and told me you skipped class. Why didn’t you go to school today?”
A flash of guilt crossed Shen Tingwan’s eyes, and she prevaricated: “I… went out to do volunteer work.”
Shen Xingyu had no interest in what volunteer work she went out to do. He turned and sat down on the chair, lifting his eyes to glare at her, and said casually:
“Stop doing things that are thankless. Also, I spent a fortune and used my connections to get you into the best private university in Long City, not for you to skip class and run around. Got it?”
“Got it! I’m going to school!”
Shen Tingwan was in no mood to listen to his lecturing. Anyway, this brother hardly managed her all year round. She grabbed her backpack and ran out.
Shen Xingyu rubbed his forehead in a headache.
His parents were divorced, and this sister was still in her infancy back then. Growing up lacking family affection and education, it was inevitable that she had developed such an arbitrary and willful personality.
However, as an older brother, he hadn’t paid much attention to his sister. The words ‘care’ and ‘look after’ were too luxurious for him. He didn’t know how to express them, nor did he understand them.
His knuckles tapped against the table top, making a rhythmic sound.
Shen Xingyu leaned back in his chair, his legs crossed, in a languid posture, but his eyes were fixed unblinkingly on the doorway.
The half-closed door let in some light.
Outside, a light drizzle was falling continuously.
Long City was currently in its rainy season. The endless rain made the air humid and stifling, leaving people feeling irritated.
A gentle breeze blew in from somewhere, lightly brushing the tips of his hair across his forehead, a strand falling before those ink-jade-like pupils.
Shen Xingyu slowly closed his eyes.
He would just wait here.
Wait for Liang Sheng to come back and admit his mistake himself.
In less than half an hour, that guy would come scurrying back to him, groveling at his feet like a pitiful stray dog begging for mercy.
It was like this every time.
Liang Sheng just couldn’t leave him. He loved him so deeply he couldn’t extricate himself, and even when he was hurt badly by him, he still cared for him.
That was why he could test his little wife’s love for him so fearlessly, to see if it had diminished by a single fraction.
However, after waiting for a long time, the door remained unpushed.
The huge living room was extremely quiet.
Shen Xingyu opened his eyes, a trace of doubt and disappointment flashing through his gaze. He then looked out the floor-to-ceiling window.
It was already dark.
The night sky after the rain lacked even a sliver of moonlight, not to mention stars. It was deeply terrifying.
This shouldn’t be. Normally, Liang Sheng would have been back long ago. Why hasn’t he shown up yet…
Shen Xingyu felt a bit agitated.
Beside him, Qin Lou, who had been silent all along, observed his boss’s mood and couldn’t help but ask:
“President Shen, do you want me to go find the Young Madam?”
“No need, he will come back on his own.”
Shen Xingyu stared out the window with certainty.
He had enough confidence that without him, that piece of trash Liang Sheng wouldn’t be able to survive in Long City.
…
The late February chill cut across his face like a knife.
Liang Sheng walked aimlessly on the road, hugging his shivering shoulders with both hands. His rain-soaked hair clung to his forehead, looking extremely wretched. Furthermore, having just recovered from a severe illness, he panted heavily every couple of steps.
Where should he go now?
Or rather, where could he go…
The Shen family, he didn’t want to return to.
In that home, he was completely dispensable.
Liang Sheng thought forlornly. His cheeks were flushed from the cold, and the clothes he wore were extremely thin. He had already been walking for several hours.
Suddenly, a car sped past a puddle, kicking up a half-person-high wave of water that splashed unmercifully onto him, completely soaking his already wet clothes.
Caught off guard and with a weak body, Liang Sheng was instantly knocked to the ground by the tremendous force. His knees and back burned with pain. After a dizzying moment, he finally regained his senses.
Truly, misfortunes never come singly…
If his mother saw in heaven how miserably he was living, would she pace around in anxiety…
After all, in this world, only his mother had treated him as well as her own biological son.
The consecutive blows finally made Liang Sheng break down.
He covered his face, his trembling body sobbing silently, all his grievances and pain bursting out in this instant.
He didn’t know how long he sat there crying until he unsteadily grabbed hold of a tree trunk and stood up.
Continuing to stay out here in the cold wind and rain would ruin his health. When his mother was alive, she often reminded him to cherish his body. He couldn’t let down his mother’s care for him since childhood.
He shook off the clothes on him and limped toward a small house up ahead with lights on.
Standing before the door, Liang Sheng collected his emotions, wiped away the tears on his face, gathered his spirits, and knocked lightly.
“Who is it? In the middle of the night.”
A mumble came from inside, and the door was opened.
“X-Xiao Yin, it’s me.”
Liang Sheng forced a smile and said.
Seeing the older brother he hated, Liang Yin instantly dropped his good mood and said impatiently: “What are you doing here?”
“I was kicked out. Can I stay with you for a few days? I have nowhere to go…”
Liang Sheng pleaded with a sob in his voice. He was freezing and hungry right now, and he was about to collapse.
Unexpectedly, Liang Yin showed no sympathy at all, instead mocking him: “Did I hear that right? The dignified Young Madam of the Shen family actually got kicked out?! That’s hilarious!”
Liang Sheng was too tired to listen to his humiliation. He lowered his head and was about to walk in, half of his shoulder blocking the doorway.
Liang Yin ruthlessly shoved him back, cursing: “Get out of the way! Make sure you get things straight, alright? This is my house, and you are just someone my mom adopted. Moreover, you just caused my mom’s death! What face do you have to come back?!”
“I…”
Liang Sheng was momentary speechless. Ultimately, he really had no right to stand here; he was the one who caused his mother’s death…
“Who’s outside!”
A crisp, youthful voice sounded from inside the house.
Shortly after, Cheng Jiashu walked out. He was Liang Yin’s new partner.
Seeing the thoroughly wretched Liang Sheng standing at the door, Cheng Jiashu’s eyes lit up: “Oh my, isn’t this Brother~ Oh! No, I should call you Madam Shen~”
He immediately changed his tune, pushed aside the blocking Liang Yin, and enthusiastically pulled the person into the house, “Hurry, come in and sit! Tsk tsk tsk, how did you get so drenched?”
“I… I forgot to bring an umbrella when I went out…”
Liang Sheng explained softly. Tears faintly welled up in his eyes, but he held them back from falling.
“Jia-jia, what are you doing! He killed my mom, he doesn’t deserve to come in!”
Liang Yin pointed furiously at Liang Sheng, but Cheng Jiashu glared back at him with a meaningful look.
“Brother, take a seat. I’ll pour you some hot water. You must be freezing, right? Warm up your body!”
Cheng Jiashu warmly pressed the person onto a chair, poured a cup of hot water, and shoved it into Liang Sheng’s hand.
“Thank you…”
Liang Sheng said gratefully. He lowered his head and took a small sip of water, the tip of his nose slightly red. This was the first bit of kindness he had received in so many years…
Cheng Jiashu rolled his eyes and continued with a smile:
“Brother, you are the Young Madam of the Shen family now. You’re amazing! The Shen family is incredibly rich; they are the wealthiest in Long City! President Shen has a net worth of over a hundred million at such a young age. You’re so lucky to be married to him!”
“Lucky? Didn’t he still get kicked out!”
Liang Yin interrupted. The more he looked at his useless brother, the angrier he became.
Liang Sheng felt a wave of bitterness in his heart.
“Talk less!”
Cheng Jiashu swatted Liang Yin, then turned his head, grinning and rubbing his hands together in a flattering manner: “Brother, Liang Yin and I will still have to rely on you in the future!”
“Me…?”
Liang Sheng was stunned.
“Him?! Jia-jia, what are you talking about!”
Liang Yin raised his voice even higher, his face full of shock.
Cheng Jiashu signaled him to shut up, then grabbed Liang Sheng’s hand and said pitifully:
“Sigh, Brother, Liang Yin and I are preparing to get married, but our business hasn’t taken off, and we’ve lost a lot of money. So I thought, since you are Madam Shen, you shouldn’t be lacking in this regard, right?”
As he spoke, he rubbed his fingers together to mimic counting money, his calculations clear as day.
Only then did Liang Yin understand his partner’s intention. He slapped the back of his head; he had been so focused on humiliating Liang Sheng just now that he forgot the other party was still the wife of the wealthiest man!
“What… do you mean?”
Liang Sheng was confused. He hadn’t dealt with money in a long time, burying his head in chores every day.
