Chapter 96: The Little Baby is Born
Tan Meng usually kept a low profile, so for this full-moon party, Wen Xun only invited close relatives and friends to gather.
When Su Tang and Ye Chiyu entered the venue, many people had already arrived. Familiar and unfamiliar faces alike gathered their gazes involuntarily onto these two exceptionally pleasing individuals.
The relationship between Su Tang and Ye Chiyu was considered an open secret in their circle, but this was the first time they had seen Ye Chiyu bring the real Su Tang to a gathering.
This time, with the couple appearing together, Su Tang gave the Alpha plenty of face. Those spoiled little tantrums nurtured by the Alpha weren’t shown at all. He quietly followed the Alpha, getting to know a large circle of people with the poise of a social butterfly.
“Your Xiao Su is pretty good. My dad is usually such a difficult old man, but when you were just leading him to introduce him to my dad, the smile on my dad’s face was so amiable…”
Wen Xun stood beside Ye Chiyu, looking at the little Omega who was now surrounded by various aunts and grandmothers, marveling.
The little guy was likely in a very good mood; the two small dimples at the corners of his mouth hadn’t stopped smiling. Ye Chiyu let out a light laugh and patted his friend’s shoulder.
“True. I’ve never seen Uncle give you a good face since we were kids,” Ye Chiyu spoke plainly, adding another jab before his friend could retort. “It’s fine. After all, you aren’t like my baby. He’s born likable and has a sweet tongue. You truly can’t compare.”
Wen Xun: “…”
Ye Chiyu looked at Wen Xun and raised an eyebrow.
Wen Xun: “You should just shut up.”
Having unknowingly become the favorite of the elders, Su Tang finally had time to slip away and see Tan Meng’s little baby. He held the baby’s soft little hand, loving the cute way the chubby little face blew bubbles with drool.
The Alpha watched the little Omega, who loved children so much, the smile in his eyes never fading.
Su Tang took all sorts of photos of the baby, and he took photos of Su Tang. After the party ended and they returned home, the little Omega, having showered, sat in bed looking at the photos he had taken for a long time, muttering that Ye Xiansheng’s photography skills weren’t good at all; the baby was so cute yet the Alpha’s photos were all blurry.
Ye Chiyu smiled without a word. Did this little guy automatically ignore himself, who occupied the protagonist’s spot in the photo’s composition? Wasn’t he being a bit too rogue?
Fortunately, Su Tang always knew to stop while ahead. Seeing Mr. Ye’s clothes were ready yet he hadn’t gone to shower, standing there staring at him, he began to change his tune.
“Setting aside everything else, you made me look really good. Hehe…”
With just one simple sentence, the Alpha went to shower contentedly.
As soon as Ye Chiyu left, Su Tang curled up under the quilt, secretly touching his belly and whispering to the baby, sharing the places he went and things he did today. Afterward, he had to softly praise his and Ye Xiansheng’s beauty, calling it—”prenatal education.”
His nearly seven-month belly was already quite large. After lying on his side for a bit, he felt his waist ache. Just as he was about to roll over and massage it himself, a pair of large hands accurately supported his waist from outside the quilt, helping him roll over.
“Tangtang, be good. Lie still, I’ll massage it for you.”
The Alpha, who had finished showering at some point, familiarly rubbed specially made medicinal oil between his palms to warm it before placing them on Su Tang’s waist.
Clearly, the muscles in the lower back were already very stiff and looked very uncomfortable, yet his Tangtang hadn’t complained a single word about the back pain. He was incredibly delicate, yet in some ways, he was so sensible it made one’s heart ache.
Ye Chiyu would often think that Su Tang was still a child himself; getting pregnant so early—was it perhaps not a wise choice?
What if the little guy regretted it later? There would be no turning back.
Yet everything Su Tang displayed regarding his pregnancy filled Ye Chiyu with joy.
“Hiss…”
The Alpha’s hand pressed a very stiff muscle. The sudden onset of soreness caused Su Tang, who had been enduring in silence, to suck in a breath.
The Alpha immediately stopped, not making another move for a good while.
Su Tang looked up in confusion, meeting Ye Chiyu’s deep, beautiful eyes.
“Continue massaging, I’m fine.”
Ye Chiyu still didn’t move.
“Ye Xiansheng?”
“Chiyu Gege?”
Su Tang called twice before Ye Chiyu’s expression loosened, followed by a somewhat helpless sigh.
“Tangtang, you’re a little guy who gets angry and acts spoiled with me just because you can’t have a little cake. Why don’t you call out in pain when your back is aching and uncomfortable during pregnancy?”
Su Tang was momentarily speechless. Just as Ye Chiyu thought Su Tang was overthinking, the little Omega looked at his Ye Xiansheng innocently and said huffily—”A real man, it’s just a pregnancy, what does this little bit of hardship matter?! I can’t afford to lose face by talking about it!”
His double-standard behavior successfully made Ye Chiyu laugh. He pulled him into his embrace, messing up the Omega’s soft hair, and gave Su Tang a gentle, long kiss.
“Tangtang.”
“Mhm?”
“A real man is supposed to endure hardship.”
“Exactly!”
Ye Chiyu lowered his head again and rubbed his nose against the Omega’s. “But my baby doesn’t have to.”
Now even Su Tang felt that Ye Xiansheng’s doting on his wife had truly crossed a line.
…
Time flew by. In the blink of an eye, Su Tang was nearing his due date.
His belly showed no signs of movement; even the Braxton Hicks contractions the doctor had warned about hadn’t appeared once.
Su Tang himself was fairly calm, but Ye Chiyu was terrified every day. He stopped going to the company and, in the past few days, had directly dumped the burden onto his father, Ye Sheng, who had been retired for many years. This forced Wen Lang to be dragged by Wen Fanxing to the Ye Group to help Ye Sheng handle company affairs, making him miserable.
His belly was truly too large, hanging in front like a heavy watermelon. Su Tang was too lazy to move. Every day, besides a fixed one-hour walk, he basically either lazed on the sofa or lay in bed. He even had time to ponder the movie script Wen Fanxing had given him for his comeback after childbirth.
In contrast, Ye Xiansheng, besides sticking to him 24 hours a day, wished he could ask Su Tang every ten minutes if his belly hurt or if he felt uncomfortable anywhere.
Su Tang felt his Alpha was far too anxious. When the doctor came to check him, he very seriously whispered to ask if he could prescribe some anti-anxiety medicine for Ye Xiansheng.
The doctor saw the fetal position was already descending and felt he would likely give birth in the next few days. Simultaneously, he felt Su Tang’s suggestion was feasible. Just as he stood up to go back and prepare the medicine for Ye Chiyu, Su Tang suddenly went into labor.
The unfamiliar contractions immediately disrupted Su Tang’s calm heart. The Omega who was calmly whispering to the doctor a second ago suddenly grabbed the Alpha’s hand, clutching his tightening belly, unable to speak from the pain. This scared Ye Chiyu, who was peeling an apple for the little guy, so much he almost peeled his own hand.
“Uh… ah… Ye Xiansheng, my belly…”
The doctor’s reaction was naturally faster than the Alpha husband’s. Without a word, he calmly directed the medical team members to prepare everything needed for delivery, then patted Ye Chiyu’s shoulder.
“President Ye, a postpartum Omega needs their Alpha to continuously provide pheromones during labor. As you know, my medical team members are all Betas, so you don’t need to consider the impact of pheromones on others. You just need to ensure the supply to Mr. Su during delivery. Can you do it?”
After a brief panic, Ye Chiyu quickly regained his composure. He nodded and accompanied Su Tang through a contraction lasting over ten seconds. Once the little person recovered, he carried him to the delivery room.
The labor progressed quickly. In less than two hours, Su Tang’s water had broken and he was ready to give birth.
Wave after wave of tightening in his belly made Su Tang struggle to cope. Delivering for the first time was very chaotic and unsettling. Fortunately, the Alpha’s pheromones were there. Ye Xiansheng kept holding his hand and talking to him, allowing him to coordinate with the doctor and push with the contractions.
The delivery wasn’t very smooth. The nurse had already put Su Tang on nasal oxygen, and the strength of the contractions wasn’t enough. The doctor gave him a shot of oxytocin, but the situation remained unpromising.
“Ye… Ye Xiansheng…”
After pushing with all his might several more times, the baby’s head was still stuck and wouldn’t come out. Su Tang fell back onto the bed, exhausted. The pain in his body didn’t feel like his own; his hair was wet with sweat and clung weakly to his forehead, his face frighteningly pale.
“Tangtang, I’m here, I’m here,” Ye Chiyu’s face was also very bad. He watched helplessly as his beloved faced the pain of childbirth, wishing he could bear it all for his little husband.
The doctor made a decision and reminded them: “President Ye, we need to use a vacuum extractor to assist the delivery. Please keep talking to Mr. Su to keep him conscious.”
Ye Chiyu nodded, holding the little Omega’s hand so hard his knuckles turned white. He said hoarsely, “Baby, don’t sleep. We’ve done very well. Hang in there a bit longer, okay? Almost there, almost there…”
Su Tang was so tired he could barely keep his eyelids open. The sight of his Alpha looking at him so anxiously in his peripheral vision made him reluctant to close his eyes, struggling through his final thread of consciousness to breathe and persevere.
The amniotic fluid was already insufficient, the fetal heart rate wasn’t good, and the blood oxygen showed a downward trend. The doctor looked at the situation of the birth canal with some concern. Taking advantage of the fact that Su Tang hadn’t fainted yet, he quickly used the auxiliary instrument.
Several rounds of abdominal pressure coordinated with contractions and the use of the extractor made Su Tang wish he had never gotten pregnant this time. After an unknown amount of struggle, the cry of a baby finally appeared in the delivery room.
“Ye Xiansheng… is it… a daughter?”
The baby’s crying gave Su Tang some strength back as he spoke word by word.
How could Ye Chiyu care if his baby was a son or a daughter? The moment the little thing came out of Su Tang’s body, he regretted it to death.
If he had known it would be this difficult and painful, he wouldn’t have let Su Tang get pregnant for anything.
“Tangtang, sleep for a bit. You’re exhausted. Look at the baby when you wake up, okay?”
The Alpha’s voice was unbelievably tender. Su Tang suddenly lost interest in the baby’s gender as well. He gave a soft Mhm and directly fell into a deep sleep.
