Not a Dodder Flower Omega, But a Top-Tier Mecha Master Chapter 7.2

Part 2

As he got closer, Bai Mu saw that beside the boy was a cleaning robot. The boy had dismantled the entire thing, with a pile of parts laid out beside him.

Bai Mu studied the boy. He was cute and well-behaved, with golden-brown hair and round eyes. He was an Omega and dressed like a young noble. Bai Mu sat on the other side of the bench and tried to strike up a conversation: “What are you doing?”

“Repairing it.”

The boy didn’t even look up, answering dismissively. His hands didn’t stop moving as he picked up and set down parts, looking somewhat frustrated. Bai Mu could see that the boy had no idea how to fix the robot.

The boy’s attention was entirely on the robot, and he had no intention of talking. It seemed Bai Mu had to show him something interesting. So, he said, “The problem with this cleaning robot is motor overload, leading to insufficient power. That’s why it can’t work. You should fix it like this…”

As Bai Mu spoke, he picked up a tool, straightened a clearly bent axle, and re-fixed a gear. The motor, which had been still, began to turn slowly.

The boy immediately looked surprised and stopped what he was doing to look at Bai Mu. He seemed to have developed a deep interest in him. Bai Mu took the opportunity to chat with the boy: “Do you want to be a maintenance master?”

“I want to be a mecha master,” the boy said, his clear eyes looking at Bai Mu. “But Lauren told me that if I want to be a mecha master, I have to learn how to fix small machines first.”

Bai Mu thought for a moment. “Is Lauren a mecha master here?”

The boy blinked. “Lauren is the head chef.”

Bai Mu: “…”

This kid doesn’t seem very bright.

At the mention of Lauren, the boy immediately became happy and started talking more: “The Scallop Crab Lauren makes is my favorite, and the Baked Shrimp from this morning was good too. But Lauren said Jin-ge only took a few bites this morning before rushing off. Did you know Jin-ge is also a great cook? But he’s been too busy lately to cook for me. Once I become a mecha master, Jin-ge will have time to cook for me again…”

Is the Consul busy with things related to mechas lately?

Bai Mu’s heart skipped a beat; it felt like he had found an opportunity.

“Do you want to be a mecha master too? I’m Qiao. What’s your name?” Qiao asked seriously.

“Call me… Luo Yi,” Bai Mu said.

Luo Yi was the name of his assistant back at the mecha institute.

“Luo Yi,” Qiao repeated, then leaned in close to Bai Mu’s ear and whispered, “I know your secret.”

A secret? What secret? Did Qiao know his identity?

Bai Mu instantly went on alert, but he kept a gentle smile. “What secret?”

Qiao leaned even closer and said, “You have a red mole below your left waist.”

Bai Mu’s face was full of exclamation marks.

So, it was Qiao who had changed his clothes that day, not the Consul. Knowing the truth, Bai Mu felt like a thorn stuck in his throat had finally been spat out. At the same time, a sense of warmth surged in his heart—someone who seemed so direct and casual was actually so careful and considerate.

Qiao was still blinking at him. Bai Mu played along and said, “Then you have to help me keep it a secret.”

“Of course.”

He wanted to ask more about the Consul and the mechas, but he had no doubt the bracelet on his wrist also had a listening function. He had to give up.

Listening…

An idea formed in his mind.

Bai Mu picked up the tools again and said, “Look, this robot not only has a motor overload, but the coil on the sensor has also burned out. That’s why it can’t capture the cleaning locations. You don’t have a replacement coil in this toolbox. What should we do?”

“I’ll go get one from Lauren right now!” Without waiting for a response, Qiao ran off quickly.

Once Qiao was gone, Bai Mu took advantage of the moment. While ensuring the robot would still function, he removed several components—inductor coils, diodes, resistors—and quietly slipped them into his pocket.

A short while later, Qiao came running back, carrying a much more complete toolbox. It didn’t take Bai Mu long to fix the cleaning robot. Qiao looked very happy, hugging the robot and running toward the dining hall.

Bai Mu had gotten what he wanted and didn’t linger, returning to his room. He closed the door tightly and took out the components. By evening, a button-sized, simple eavesdropping device was finished.

Bai Mu went to bed very early that night.

The next morning, the sky was still grayish-black when Bai Mu woke up. He quickly washed up and left his room, returning to that bench. He looked as if he were staring blankly into the distance, but his peripheral vision never left the room on the second floor.

The morning air held a damp chill. Bai Mu pulled his collar tight and crossed his arms, waiting silently. Soon after, a faint white light appeared on the horizon, and he saw a dim light turn on in Han Naijin’s private area on the second floor.

At this moment, a small ladybug hidden in the grass held the eavesdropping device in its mouth, ready to follow its master’s command.

Han Naijin was always wary of him, so he didn’t dare do it himself. He had to rely on Xiao Piao to plant the bug on Han Naijin.

About ten minutes later, the door to the first-floor hall opened, and a broad-shouldered, narrow-waisted Alpha with a tall build walked out. It was the man he was waiting for.

Han Naijin also saw the sitting Bai Mu immediately, because sitting on a garden bench at this hour was a very conspicuous thing to do.

What is he up to now?

Waiting for me on purpose?

Han Naijin’s pace slowed instinctively, and a faint solemnity appeared on his face. However, as he drew closer to Bai Mu, he hid that emotion well.

Bai Mu leaned back on the bench, staring vacantly at the sky as the dawn light began to break. He only turned his head when Han Naijin’s figure appeared before him, but he made no move to stand up.

Han Naijin stood before him, scanning him from head to toe with a probing gaze, but said nothing.

Bai Mu looked up slightly at Han Naijin, his slender neck showing a beautiful curve. He smiled and said, “Good morning, Officer.”

“Why are you here?” Han Naijin’s voice held the laziness of someone who had just woken up.

Bai Mu shook his head helplessly. “Had a nightmare and couldn’t sleep. Came out for some fresh air.”

Han Naijin had seen him wake up from a nightmare before. Having a nightmare and coming out for air—the explanation was very reasonable and might even garner some sympathy.

Han Naijin nodded slightly, his expression giving nothing away. He stood with his legs straight, hands hanging naturally by his sides.

Behind Han Naijin, Xiao Piao quickly flew up from the ground and landed softly on the edge of his belt at the small of his back.

Bai Mu saw the ladybug flicker past. His heart suddenly raced, and his back stiffened from tension. However, his face remained fixed in a gentle smile, his gaze sweeping over Han Naijin’s frame without a hint of intent. “Have you been waking up this early lately, Officer?”

“Yeah. Busy lately.”

“Is there anything I can help with?”

Han Naijin continued to look down at Bai Mu. The person on the bench had clear eyes with a hint of weariness. His words sounded sincere, as if he truly wanted to help. But Han Naijin knew that those innocent eyes were likely calculating something again.

But so far, the Omega had just sat there without moving, saying only a few unimportant words. Am I overthinking it? Is he really just here for air?

Bai Mu leaned back comfortably, legs slightly apart and hands resting naturally on his thighs, quietly returning Han Naijin’s gaze.

“No need. Just focus on your recovery.”

After saying that, Han Naijin moved his long legs, about to walk away.

“Officer—”

Han Naijin’s steps paused. He turned back, his body automatically entering a defensive state like a drawn bow. However, his face remained calm as he raised an eyebrow toward Bai Mu. His expression seemed to say, “I knew you would call me.”

Han Naijin gave him a profile view as he turned. Bai Mu saw Xiao Piao tucking the eavesdropping device between Han Naijin’s trousers and belt. As Xiao Piao pressed the bug’s tentacles firmly against the fabric, Bai Mu’s heart finally settled back into his chest.

Han Naijin was still waiting for him to continue. Bai Mu said in a flat tone, “Don’t work too hard.”
