Chapter 2: His Special Circumstances

Chen Jiamu didn’t know Li Qi’s background; he only heard that he had lived abroad since he was a child and had only returned in the past few years.

He was about the same age as Li Qi, but they had never interacted, only having seen each other twice from a distance.

Both times were at the birthday parties of their respective elders. For three years, they hadn’t exchanged a single word…

Therefore, he knew nothing about what kind of person Li Qi was. His family elders hadn’t mentioned him either, so he just assumed Li Qi was extremely solitary.

After all, whose son only appears at birthday parties?

He never expected their third meeting to be so dramatic…

Li Qi stabbed him, then stabbed himself; both of them ended up in the hospital…

This was Chen Jiamu’s first experience with this. Previously, those who had clashed with him would try to cripple him when he was completely safe…

Only Li Qi didn’t seem to value his life…

He didn’t understand, and for the first time, he was intensely curious about Li Qi.

Li Qi’s stab wounds weren’t fatal, but they still kept Chen Jiamu in the hospital for a month, and he learned about Li Qi’s situation from his sister, Chen Cheng.

It turned out he wasn’t reckless with his life; he truly didn’t want to live…

And Li Qi was Li Ru’s illegitimate son, a product of a scandalous affair, not someone who grew up abroad.

The reason Li Ru brought him back was because he and Song Jin were in the midst of a divorce; Song Jin had no choice but to bring Li Qi back to the Li family.

Li Qi’s original name wasn’t Li Qi; it was Li Xixi, and Song Jin changed his name to Li Qi.

Qi and Xi, only a “mu” (wood) is added?

Did Song Jin want Li Qi to have a strong support?

Oh, he forgot, the Li family is a huge tree…

When Li Qi was brought back to the Li family, he seemed to be unwell or something, frequently going to the hospital, and only showing improvement in recent years…

This year, he was also sent to City University…

“Sis, how did you know so much? Do you have secret channels?” Chen Jiamu propped up his chin, staring curiously at Chen Cheng.

Chen Cheng hesitated, then raised her fist, her eyes threatening, “Why do you care so much! Just keep what you know to yourself.”

“If this gets out, I’ll be the first to deal with you!”

Receiving Chen Cheng’s threat, Chen Jiamu could only nod frantically. He definitely wouldn’t spread it; besides, it wasn’t good news.

“You, always doing those things, it was always the other person’s fault first, but Li Qi didn’t do anything to you.”

“Several of you tried to bully one person, and ended up getting stabbed into the hospital, it’s really…”

“The Li family is in a difficult position; they only have one son, Li Qi. If something unexpected happens because of this, even if you were sold, it wouldn’t solve the problem…”

Chen Cheng was worried and helpless. Song Jin couldn’t have children, so for the sake of the Li family’s legacy, she had to bring Li Qi back to raise him.

Now, after Chen Jiamu’s incident, if Li Qi gets discouraged and does something foolish, the Chen family wouldn’t be able to explain it…

“Ah, Aunt Song doesn’t have any children?”

Chen Jiamu listened to Chen Cheng’s gossip with gusto. Suddenly hearing that the Li family only had one son, Li Qi, he widened his eyes in shock.

No wonder Song Jin took the initiative to bring back her son from outside; it turns out she couldn’t have children…

“Shut up!”

“That’s not the point. The point is that you’re going to apologize to Li Qi later and appease him. He’s in a very special situation.”

“Otherwise, I can’t explain things to Mom and Dad!”

Chen Cheng rolled her eyes at him speechlessly. Outsiders thought Chen Jiamu was a mischievous little devil. Only she knew how naive he really was.

Those he had fought with had provoked him first. He burned someone’s car at the age of ten because some children were playing with firecrackers and accidentally set it alight. The ringleader was afraid of being scolded, so he directly blamed Chen Jiamu.

Chen Jiamu was stubborn and was flattered by being called “Big Brother,” so he took the blame.

If his parents hadn’t checked the security footage, he wouldn’t have known how serious the consequences were.

The incident at twelve was even worse; it wasn’t that he almost crippled the other person, it was a verbal altercation, which turned physical; the other person didn’t notice the stairs behind him and fell…

His leg was broken because of the awkward fall…

The incident at fifteen, she asked him many times before she finally found out. It turned out that the person who provoked him challenged him to a race. Chen Jiamu pretended to know how to drive…

In fact, he didn’t even know where the brake was. Chen Jiamu got carsick and barely touched a car…

The other person thought he would brake, but Chen Jiamu mistook the gas pedal for the brake, and the two cars collided…

Chen Jiamu was lucky to only be hospitalized for three months, while the other person was confined to a bed for the rest of his life…

“Me?”

“Me to go?”

“But I…”

“Stop pretending! If you don’t go, I’ll tell the truth and you won’t be able to pretend anymore!”

Chen Cheng’s words were a direct threat, Chen Jiamu pouted, his eyes resentful. Seeing her serious expression, he could only look like a wronged puppy, his eyes downcast, his voice muffled, “Okay, I understand.”

“Give you ten minutes to get ready; I’ll wait for you in the living room.”

Chen Cheng stood up, her ten-centimeter high heels making a click as she turned to leave. Her golden hair flowed in the wind. In the sunlight, her features, seven points similar to Chen Jiamu’s, revealed a cool and ruthless edge…

Being able to establish herself in Chen Corporation at the age of twenty-two showed how capable she was.

No wonder Chen Jiamu was afraid of her…

Ten minutes later, Chen Jiamu, with a body that wasn’t very weak, appeared in the living room.

Only his messy hair was quite eye-catching. No matter how Chen Jiamu combed it, it still stuck up.

Chen Cheng naturally noticed his messy hair and twitched the corner of her mouth, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, then casually shouted, “Alright, leave it as it is. Li Qi lives next door to you; he’s a month younger than you, technically he’s your younger brother.”

“Be sweet and sincere when you apologize to him.”

At the door of the ward, Chen Cheng still reminded him, afraid that Chen Jiamu would cause more trouble.

“Okay, I understand.”

Chen Jiamu yawned lazily, silently remembering the words “be sweet.”

Both families were equally powerful; their wards had the best treatment, and there were only two wards on the entire floor.

Walking down the carpeted corridor, the two arrived at Li Qi’s ward.

Chen Cheng politely knocked on the door. After a moment, the door was opened by a nurse. Seeing the two standing at the door, she froze for several seconds.

“We’re here to talk to Li Qi; we won’t disturb him for too long.”

Hearing Chen Cheng’s explanation, the nurse stepped aside.

Passing through the living room to the bedroom, Chen Jiamu noticed the IV drip hanging above Li Qi’s head.

He had been stabbed several times and didn’t need an IV, but the person who stabbed him needed one?

“Xiao Li, I brought Jiamu to apologize; it was indeed his fault.”

“You two talk it out and clear things up; don’t take it to heart.”

Chen Cheng lowered her attitude, gently pushing Chen Jiamu into the ward.

Li Qi heard footsteps, but didn’t even lift his eyelids. Only when he heard Chen Cheng’s voice did he open one eye to glance at Chen Jiamu standing at the door.

After a month in the hospital, Chen Jiamu had lost some weight; the black mole at the corner of his eyes was more noticeable because of his fidgeting.

It was clear that Chen Jiamu was nervous, but Li Qi didn’t want to pay him any attention; he glanced at him and closed his eyes again, pretending to be asleep.

He didn’t give them any reaction…
