Chapter 103: Sharing White HairÂ
Chen Jiamu and Li Xi indulged themselves in Su Shi for quite a few days. Chen Cheng didn’t urge him; knowing he was happy in another city, she let him play to his heart’s content.
The reason was simple: Chen Jiamu rarely posted on his Moments, but lately, he had been posting for daysâvarious photos of food, mountain climbing, and snow.
It hadn’t snowed in Bei Cheng yet, but it was already snowing in Su Shi.
Chen Cheng inspected his photos carefully, trying to find a clue. Was Chen Jiamu in a relationship? Otherwise, he wouldn’t usually post on his Moments.
Or rather, all he used to share were various stress-relief videos. Sometimes she wondered just how much pressure he was under.
But after looking for a long time, she saw nothing, though one thing was certain: he was eating with another person, and the other person was taking the photos.
Because one of Chen Jiamuâs hands was injured, it was impossible for him to show both hands.
In that pile of Moments, he had posted a photo someone had taken of him.
In the photo, Chen Jiamu was looking at the camera with a gentle gazeâa gaze so soft it could turn to water.
One couldn’t help but sighâhandsome looks plus tenderness was a lethal combination.
Even Bai Jing commented asking if he was in a relationship, but he was shut down by Chen Jiamu.
After a while, Chen Cheng lost interest and stopped paying attention. Instead, she received an invitation from Song Jin; she was holding a banquet at the end of the month and had invited one or two families.
Looking at the bright red invitation, Chen Cheng couldn’t help but shrug. This would likely be another farce.
She heard that when the Song parents learned she was determined to get married, they went to her place to make a scene, but they were kicked out by Ouyang Qing.
The Song parents wouldn’t give up until they achieved their goal. Li Ru, on the other hand, was acting like a coward, hiding behind the Song parents.
Tsk…
Watching the videos someone sent her, Chen Cheng had a strange feeling. The Song parents weren’t protecting their daughter; instead, they were protecting a man who had hurt their daughter. It felt wrong no matter how you looked at it.
It was as if Li Ru was their son and Song Jin was their enemy…
Hissâ the sudden thought startled Chen Cheng. Staring closely at Li Ruâs face and the Song parentsâ faces, Chen Cheng felt a sense of shock. One had to say, Li Ruâs face and the Song parentsâ faces seemed to share a few similarities…
Her eyes trembled. Chen Cheng suddenly had the sensation of discovering a conspiracy.
No way…
Not daring to think further, Chen Cheng quickly exited the video. Just then, Bai Jing sent her a message asking if she wanted to have lunch.
One An Yiyi leaves, one Bai Jing arrives.
Chen Cheng looked at the chat screen, her gaze a bit dazed. It had been nearly half a month since that meeting, and An Yiyi hadn’t come to find her.
Perhaps she had moved on. Comforting herself this way, Chen Cheng accepted Bai Jingâs invitation.
She didn’t actually reject Bai Jing, but she also wanted to try and suppress the irritation in her heart.
She didn’t know why she was irritated; a certain emotion had been hanging over her, making her feel incredibly uncomfortable.
The days passed in tranquility. The snow in Su Shi hadn’t melted yet, and Bei Cheng, which hadn’t seen snow in years, began to experience heavy snowfall.
With only a few days left until Song Jinâs wedding, the two decided to head back early.
After packing their things, they hurried to the airport. But at the airport, Chen Jiamu spotted a familiar figure.
The other person also spotted him. Their eyes metâthere was no hostility, only calmness.
“Chen Jiamu.”
“Zhang Xin…”
Zhang Xin hadn’t expected to run into Chen Jiamu at the airport. Aside from a bit of surprise, there were no other emotions.
“Where are you going?”
Chen Jiamu subconsciously asked, but after he spoke, both of them fell into silence.
After a long while, Zhang Xin spoke, tears glimmering in her eyes. “I thought you would hate me. I didn’t expect you to ask where I was going.”
Chen Jiamu was quite free-spirited. He didn’t hate Zhang Xin at all. After all, a hateful person must have a pitiful side. Aside from scamming some money from him, she hadn’t caused him any substantial harm. Money was something he never lacked; money was what he had most of.
If he hated everyone, how exhausted would he be? “Everyone chooses a different path. Why should I hate you? Everyone has their own fate; however it goes is already pre-ordained.”
Chen Jiamuâs words caused a tear to fall from Zhang Xinâs eye. As the tear rolled down her cheek, she too let go.
If her ambition hadn’t been so heavy at the start, perhaps… perhaps she could have won her gamble.
Unfortunately, there are no “ifs” in this world, and people have no way back. Perhaps as he said, everyone has their own fate, and the way they go is pre-ordained.
“Chen Jiamu…”
“Thank you.”
What was she thanking him for? Thanking him for not hurting her even when he knew she was using him. Also thanking him for helping her realize that one needs to be content.
And… to be strong within oneself.
“What are you chatting about? You’ve been gone so long.”
Li Xiâs voice sounded behind him. Chen Jiamu looked back and said to Zhang Xin, “Iâm leaving. Take care of yourself.”
With that, Chen Jiamu left without looking back. Zhang Xin watched the two of them, her eyes turning slightly as a trace of helpless self-mockery curled on her lips.
So, the reason he didn’t strike her down wasn’t that he still had feelings, but that he simply didn’t care, nor did he deign to.
“Who were you talking to?”
Pushing the suitcase, Li Xi leaned over to ask. Chen Jiamu shook his head. “Nothing, just a passerby.”
“Letâs go, itâs time to board.”
“Okay.”
The two landed in Bei Cheng in the evening. Snowflakes were drifting in the sky, and Chen Jiamu was covered in snow the moment he stepped out of the airport.
The top of his head was white, and his black coat was dyed with several traces.
“Wow! If Bei Cheng doesn’t snow, itâs for three years, and then it comes down like this!”
“Don’t say it, it really is beautiful!”
Chen Jiamu reached out his hand to catch it. The snowflakes melted instantly in his palm, the icy meltwater dripping through his fingers and disappearing into the snow on the ground.
“Now you can see snow without going north.”
Li Xi stood behind him, his gaze gentle and doting. After his hand was out for a while, it felt cold, and Chen Jiamu lost interest in playing.
He shrunk his neck and leaned toward Li Xi. “Itâs so cold. Letâs head back quickly.”
“Okay.”
The two hailed a car, but the pickup point wasn’t there; they had to walk to the station across the way.
Walking in the middle of the road, the white snow fell onto their heads. Chen Jiamu looked up and saw that their hair was completely white. His heart surged, and he stared at Li Xi with sparkling eyes.
“Say, do we count as ‘sharing white hair together’ now?”
Li Xiâs heart thrummed. He looked back at Chen Jiamu, a smile rising as he spoke with firm conviction, “Yes.”
“If we are drenched in the same snow today, we can count it as sharing white hair in this life.”
Li Xi almost never spoke sweet words, but now he had spoken such deep sentiment. Chen Jiamu stared straight at him, the smile slowly seeping into his heart…
