Chapter 11: The Game Controller
“No!”
“I really didn’t know it was like this!”
“I just thought it was a normal game console…”
Chen Jiamu was completely speechless. He had no idea that the thing his friend had given him was like this.
And it was foreign…
That sound just now…
“Mind your own business…”
Secretly swallowing his saliva, Li Qi slowly unplugged the connector and threw the controller back into Chen Jiamu’s arms.
“Put it away.”
Now, these two things were like hot potatoes; Chen Jiamu couldn’t take it, nor could he not take it. “I…”
“Mu Mu, it’s time to go home.”
“Come and play with Xiao Qi another day.”
His mother’s voice came from outside the door. Chen Jiamu gritted his teeth, stuffed the controller into his pocket, and hurriedly tidied his clothes.
“Coming.”
Chen Jiamu opened the door with a flushed face. Su Yi, seeing him like this, immediately found it strange. But seeing Li Qi standing beside the sofa with an impassive expression, she didn’t think much of it.
Chen Jiamu nervously breathed a sigh of relief. Before leaving, he looked back at Li Qi. Seeing that he had no reaction, he lowered his head and left Li’s house with Su Yi.
After Chen Jiamu left, Song Jin appeared at the door of Li Qi’s room.
“Xiao Chen is a good child. Getting to know him better won’t hurt you.”
“You should go out and make more friends, don’t stay cooped up at home all day.”
Facing Song Jin’s nagging, Li Qi remained silent for a while before quietly replying, “I know.”
“I won’t harm you, don’t overthink it.”
Song Jin said another worried sentence. Since Li Qi was brought back, she felt that the child was too sensitive.
Only the Chen family knew that Li Qi wasn’t her biological son. Su Yi had even asked if she would be angry about being a stepmother.
Why would she be angry? She couldn’t have children. It was better to bring Li Qi back than to let Li Ru divorce her and marry someone else.
Thankfully, that woman wasn’t respectable, otherwise her attitude would have been different.
For Li Qi, she felt no hatred, but more pity. The things that woman did to him were truly inhumane.
She had witnessed it herself when Li Qi was five years old. Her own son could resort to such cruelty.
She was shopping when she saw a dirty child squatting by a trash can picking up food. Out of sympathy, she had someone give him something to eat.
It was an ordinary event, but five years later, that woman appeared, clamoring for Li Ru to divorce her.
She investigated and discovered that Li Ru had an affair the year she went abroad, but it was only a one-night stand, and Li Qi’s arrival was an accident.
That woman didn’t love Li Qi either, often beating and even abusing him.
She secretly went to check several times. Li Qi would kneel on the street in sewage, beaten and kicked by the woman.
Later, Li Ru considered divorcing and remarrying, but Song Jin wouldn’t let him. The entire Li family was built on her dowry.
He couldn’t just throw her away now. No way.
So she took Li Qi back to the Li family, and she gave Li Ru the woman’s job.
Three years have passed, and that woman has calmed down considerably.
But Li Qi remains wary, several times wanting to give up.
Song Jin’s words made Li Qi’s eyes tremble, his lips unconsciously pursed. Seeing him silent, Song Jin didn’t push it, sighing softly and turning to leave.
“Thank you, Aunt Song.”
The slight response to her continued efforts softened Song Jin’s heart, her eyes suddenly feeling a little sour.
“Good child, don’t sleep with wet hair, otherwise you’ll get a headache.”
Song Jin wanted to touch his face, but seeing his fleeting caution, her hand landed on his shoulder instead.
After Song Jin left, Li Qi slowly closed the door. Remembering Song Jin’s words, he grabbed a nearby towel and placed it on his head.
Back in his room, Chen Jiamu shut himself off, lying in bed, angrily taking out his phone to message his friend.
Dingfengmu: [You bastard! You gave me a dirty game machine!] [Picture]
The other side saw the two black controllers and immediately replied.
SaltyFishTurnedOver: [Yo, you opened it? How was it? Exciting?]
[This can adjust the intensity based on the controller’s operation, giving you a realistic immersive feeling.]
Dingfengmu: [F*ck you!]
SaltyFishTurnedOver: [So angry? Did you use it with a girl and got beaten up?]
Dingfengmu: [Go away…]
SaltyFishTurnedOver: [You really got beaten up?]
Chen Jiamu felt being looked down upon by Li Qi was worse than being beaten by a girl. His reputation…
Pulling the blanket over his face, Chen Jiamu wailed inwardly, but he was also curious about the controller’s purpose…
Driven by curiosity, Chen Jiamu opened his computer and started operating…
The lights in Chen Jiamu’s room didn’t go out until late at night…
The next morning, Chen Jiamu slept until noon.
“Chen Jiamu, get up!”
“Come shopping with me today!”
Knock knock knock…
A violent knocking echoed through the room. Chen Jiamu irritably covered his head with his pillow.
Click…
The sound of the key opening the door. Almost instantly, Chen Jiamu sprang from the bed, swiftly sweeping a crumpled piece of paper into the trash can.
He then threw a banana peel into the trash can. Seeing his room was flawless, he relievedly lay back down.
Chen Cheng opened the door and saw Chen Jiamu curled up in bed. Without saying a word, she went to the window, opened the curtains, letting the sunlight into the room.
Then she pulled at Chen Jiamu’s blanket, “Get up! I finally have a day off, come shopping with me!”
“No! I want to sleep!”
“You finally have a day off, and so do I!”
Chen Jiamu held his ground, preventing Chen Cheng from taking even an inch. He added, with increased force, rolling himself into a cocoon.
“I’ll count to three, if you don’t get up, don’t blame me for splashing water.”
“One,”
“Two…”
“I really owe you!”
“It’s not impossible for me to accompany you, but you have to buy me the latest game console from abroad!”
Before Chen Cheng finished speaking, Chen Jiamu relented, but he also made a request.
Chen Cheng thought it wasn’t a big deal and was about to agree when she caught sight of the black controller on the bed, “You already have a game console, right?”
“I need another one!”
As she reached for it, Chen Jiamu quickly used his foot to pull the blanket over it, his voice trembling, “It’s different!”
“What’s the difference? They’re both game controllers.”
“Don’t be so fickle.”
