Chapter 26: I Quit
His sudden departure had been unexpected for Li Qi; he hadn’t anticipated Song Jin’s impulsive decision.
The night he left, he’d planned to tell Chen Jiamu, but his phone fell out along the way. To catch his flight, he’d had to give upâŚ
And that departure had lasted four yearsâŚ
During those four years, heâd relentlessly improved himself, studying tirelessly to become someone who didnât need protection.
But⌠after going abroad, he discovered his feelings for Chen Jiamu were more than just friendshipâŚ
Looking at Chen Jiamuâs profile, Li Qi sighed deeply, then got out of the car and helped him upstairs.
Counting the floors, Li Qi found Chen Jiamuâs room. Unlocking the door, he felt a sense of unreality.
He turned on the lights; Chen Jiamu opened his eyes, staring at the living room for a while.
Li Qi thought he was awake and was about to speak, but he fell asleep again.
âI overestimated you.â
Muttering under his breath, Li Qi scooped him up and carried him to the bedroom. He gently placed him on the bed and took off his shoes without complaint.
It was early autumn; he was wearing many layers. Li Qi removed one garment after another.
Seeing Chen Jiamuâs flushed cheeks, Li Qi sat down, gently touching his cheek, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
He tucked him in and sat quietly, staring at his profile in silence.
How could he explain the missing four years?
When he took Chen Jiamu to his secret base, he’d been expressing his acceptance.
He knew Chen Jiamu wanted to be friends, but things didn’t go as planned; their separation had been rushedâŚ
There hadnât even been a goodbyeâŚ
âSighâŚâ
Under the dark night sky, some slept soundly, while others lay awakeâŚ
The first rays of morning sun streamed in; Chen Jiamu shielded his eyes. After tossing and turning in bed for a while, he slowly opened his eyesâŚ

His phone alarm rang. Checking the time, Chen Jiamu groaned and turned it offâŚ
They say, “The outcome is uncertain; we are all dark horses.”
But in reality, the alarm rings, and we are all workhorsesâŚ
He was a fake workhorse, but his past year had been no different from a real one!
The downside of excessive drinking was a splitting headache, a foul taste in his mouth, and a heavy head.
Enduring the discomfort, Chen Jiamu struggled to get up. But upon getting out of bed, he realized he was only in his underwear.
How did he even get home?
He had no memory of it! He vaguely remembered someone carrying himâŚ
Was it a colleague?

The alarm interrupted his thoughts. Without lingering on the memory, Chen Jiamu quickly washed and brushed his teeth.
He grabbed some clothes from the closet and rushed out.
Opening the door, he found his key still in the lockâŚ
Heâd forgotten to take it out!
Luckily, he was a man; if he were a woman⌠it would have been dangerous!
He quickly locked the door and ran, catching the bus just as it pulled up.
Only after getting on the bus did he dare to breathe heavily. Luckily, it was autumn; it wasn’t too hot, and he felt warm.
If it were summer, he would have surely collapsed from heatstrokeâŚ
At the office, he rushed to the elevator. He arrived at the Technology Department at precisely 9:00 a.mâŚ
Beep! Clock-in successful!
Hearing the confirmation, Chen Jiamu felt relieved and strolled to his desk.
But the location was truly awful!
Damn Qian Chengfeng!
Sitting at his desk, Chen Jiamu considered quitting and going back to Beicheng to live off the land.
Chen Cheng was there; she could support both of them; he was suited to being a parasiteâŚ
âHey, Xiao Chen, you actually dared to come?â
A female colleague approached, causing Chen Jiamu to frown. âWhat do you mean?â
âWhat else would I be doing if not working?â
âYou donât know?â
âAfter you left last night, everyone said youâd be fired. The new boss hates employees drinking in the Technology Department, and you got completely drunk in front of himâŚâ
The colleague looked around cautiously.
âNew boss?â
âDidnât Li Kui say the new boss wasnât coming?â
âAnd, the new boss was there last night?â
The three questions surprised the colleague. Did Chen Jiamu have no memory of last night?
âHe was. He even spoke to us.â
âYou were thereâŚâ
Hearing this, Chen Jiamu remembered Li Kuiâs strange behavior last night and understood. He and Qian Chengfeng had set him upâŚ
âDamn!â
âClever!â
Chen Jiamu hadn’t expected his first lesson after graduation to be betrayal! Others would have been quietly fired.
But he wasn’t like others.
If they wanted him fired, he’d quit himself!
Who cares about this lousy job!

Making up his mind, Chen Jiamu marched towards the managerâs office.
He was going to give that old bastard a piece of his mind!
The colleague quickly returned to her desk. Todayâs youth were not to be trifled withâŚ
Like firecrackers, they exploded at the slightest touchâŚ
In the managerâs office, Qian Chengfeng was puzzled by the notice from the boss, about eliminating bad behavior and forbidding employees from drinking excessivelyâŚ
But no female colleagues had been forced to drink!

The door was violently kicked open, startling Qian Chengfeng.
He saw Chen Jiamu, holding his employee badge, striding towards him with a furious expression.
With a forceful movement, he threw the badge at him!
âChen Jiamu, are you crazy?!â
âYouâre going crazy this early! Donât you want to work anymore?!â
Qian Chengfeng, furious, pointed at his nose and yelled.
âThis lousy job! Whoever wants it can have it!â
âDonât think I donât know about your scheme with that fatso! Making me look bad in front of the new boss so heâd fire me!â
âBut you donât need to plot against me, Iâm quitting today!â
âYesterday you taught me what betrayal is, today Iâll return the lesson, and youâll see what fearlessness is!â
âYour measly salary isnât even enough to fix a flat tire!â
âSpit!â
Chen Jiamu spat at him. Seeing Qian Chengfengâs flushed face and trembling hands, he felt a surge of satisfaction!
Heâd had enough of this frustration!
The commotion attracted attention. Zhang Xin, holding some files, stood in the corridor, staring incredulously at Chen Jiamu emerging from the officeâŚ
âJiamu⌠youâŚâ
But Chen Jiamu ignored her and turned to leave. As he went to get his belongings, he heard a familiar voiceâŚ
âWhat happened this morning?â
