Chapter 34: Where Did My Wounds Come From?
34
“Did I fall?”
Chen Jiamu tried to recall what happened yesterday, but after much thought, he had no memory.
He felt sleepy after dinner yesterday, and… he seemed to have fallen asleep as soon as he got in the car.
Then he slept.
Did Li Qi send him back?
After washing his face with cold water, Chen Jiamu grabbed his hair and walked out of the bathroom. Back in the bedroom, he scanned the room and found that he’d only taken off his shoes and socks; his clothes were all still on.
Li Qi didn’t come into his house?
Standing there and thinking was pointless; he might as well call and ask. He immediately pulled out his phone and called Li Qi.
The call was answered quickly. Li Qi’s calm voice came through the phone: “Awake? I packed some wontons, do you want to eat?”
“Yes!”
Hearing about food, he immediately forgot what he wanted to ask.
“Okay, I’m at your door. Open it.”
“Coming.”
As soon as he opened the door, Chen Jiamu smelled the wontons, and his stomach conveniently rumbled.
“You really can sleep.”
Li Qi took off his shoes and walked on the floor in his socks. Chen Jiamu immediately threw him a pair of slippers. “Wear mine, I can go barefoot.”
Without waiting for a response, he took the food to the dining table. Li Qi looked at his bare feet and shook his head with amusement.
“Meow…”
As soon as Li Qi walked near the sofa, Xiao Hei Mao (Little Black Cat) poked its head out and kept rubbing against his pants leg.
Seeing the cat, Chen Jiamu remembered that he had an extra pet, and his supplies hadn’t arrived yet.
It didn’t eat last night…
Chen Jiamu guiltily put down the wontons. The cat hadn’t eaten, but he already had…
Just then, Li Qi turned his head, and their eyes met. Chen Jiamu awkwardly opened the box, thinking that he’d buy some cat food later.
“You’re really not reliable. Luckily, I bought cat food.”
Li Qi said as he brought in the bag from the entrance; he’d forgotten it while carrying the wontons.
Chen Jiamu blushed at Li Qi’s words, stammering in his defense, “I bought things, but they haven’t arrived yet.”
“What did you buy?”
While listening to him, Li Qi took a fruit bowl from the coffee table, poured some cat food into it, and went to the water dispenser to get some hot water.
The fruit bowl wasn’t very deep, so he didn’t dare put in too much water. It would be too hot to handle…
“Just… cat food, a scratching post, and that kind of thing.”
Chen Jiamu ate his wontons, but his eyes were looking at Li Qi curiously. “Hey, what are you doing?”
“Soaking cat food for the kitten. You don’t have goat’s milk powder, and it’s too young to eat hard food, so you have to add hot water to soften it.”
“Don’t wait for online delivery. I have an hour free this afternoon. I’ll take you to a pet store to buy a litter box for it first. Let’s get that taken care of.”
Li Qi patiently answered his questions while using his fingers to test the softness of the cat food. When he thought it was okay, he bent down and placed it in front of the kitten.
Smelling the cat food, the kitten meowed anxiously and dove into it.
Watching the kitten happily eating, Li Qi wiped his hands with a wet wipe, his eyes filled with tenderness.
“What’s a litter box?”
“Is it where it sleeps?”
Chen Jiamu swallowed his food, curiously asking about the function of a litter box.
Li Qi looked at his bowl, saw a few wontons left, paused, and kindly reminded him, “I suggest you finish eating before asking this question.”
“Why?” Chen Jiamu took a sip of soup, puzzled. What was there to hide? A cat item couldn’t be that complicated.
“Because… a litter box is… a cat’s toilet…”
“It’s… for pooping…”
Li Qi had wanted him to finish eating before knowing, but Chen Jiamu was too curious.
As soon as he finished speaking, Chen Jiamu fell silent. The images he conjured were too disgusting, making him not want to finish eating.
“I told you to finish eating before asking. Now look what happened,”
Li Qi saw him stop and couldn’t help but laugh.
“I’m ignorant.”
Chen Jiamu’s face almost said, “I’m innocent. Please forgive me…”
Since the cat’s supplies were easily solved, he suddenly remembered the wound on the corner of his mouth.
“What happened yesterday when you sent me home?”
“Why do I have wounds on my mouth and neck?”
Chen Jiamu was very curious about the wounds. He only ate a meal yesterday. Why did it look like he’d gotten drunk and passed out?
“Nothing happened. I couldn’t wake you up downstairs, and you went in by yourself when I got you to the door.”
“You wouldn’t let me in, and you seemed to fall when you went inside. I thought your state was strange. I checked, and the doctor said you might have carb coma…”
“Or maybe you’re allergic to something in it.”
…?
This explanation confused Chen Jiamu. Could that happen?
Seeing his reaction, Li Qi shrugged nonchalantly, looking like he didn’t understand either.
“Go to the hospital for a checkup in a few days and see what you’re allergic to.”
Li Qi spoke seriously, and Chen Jiamu didn’t think much of it. He really thought he was allergic to something yesterday, causing the wounds and rash on his mouth and neck.
“Mm-hmm.”
Chen Jiamu agreed with everything Li Qi said, and the atmosphere between them was unexpectedly very harmonious.
Li Qi was incredibly efficient, taking Chen Jiamu to the pet store to buy the necessary items in the afternoon.
“Had enough fun? It’s time to go back and tease those people.”
“Okay, I’ll arrange your new workspace.”
On the way, Chen Jiamu suddenly told Li Qi that he could return to work. Li Qi was delighted and immediately said he was welcome anytime.
After buying supplies with him, he returned to the company and diligently dealt with the backlog of documents. Only after finishing did Li Qi have time to handle Chen Jiamu’s matters.
The company’s break room, also known as the gossip hub. Li Qi’s order to arrange a new workspace quickly spread. Various speculations followed.
“Whose workspace is being changed?”
“Yeah, and such a good one! In the boss’s office!”
“I don’t know, the boss didn’t say.”
“Such good treatment… Could it be Zhang… Zhang Xin?”
The employee in charge of arranging the new workspace shook his head, saying he didn’t know.
“I think it must be. Look, after Chen Jiamu was fired, the manager’s attitude towards her became very enthusiastic. Maybe the boss also fell for her beauty?”
This statement was very persuasive. After one person said it, the others fell silent.
Zhang Xin did have the capital to make someone spend a fortune for her.
Zhang Xin, hiding in a corner, listened to the discussion, her expression very intriguing. Her small face was flushed, like a red rose blooming secretly at night, captivating at first glance.
She had only met the boss a few times, and at first, she thought he was too cold and hard to get along with.
Unexpectedly, beneath his cold exterior, there was a romantic heart…
