Chapter 39 You’re Right
“You’re right, I think so too.”
“Then let’s continue staying here. You’ll take me along and show off, take me to the top.”
Getting the answer he wanted, Chen Jiamu continued to eat with peace of mind.
“Okay.”
Li Qi nervously changed cups to drink water, silently muttering Chen Cheng’s name in apology.
Let him be willful this once.
The two of them returned to the company together after dinner, and this scene was witnessed by the colleagues in the technology department.
Some bolder ones directly asked Chen Jiamu in the restroom: “Xiao Chen, did you have lunch with the boss?”
“I saw you two coming back to the company together.”
Standing to one side, Chen Jiamu’s heart skipped a beat; he almost peed his pants.
After solving his physiological problem, Chen Jiamu went to the washbasin to wash his hands. The inquisitive person relentlessly continued to ask: “Why aren’t you talking? I’m just asking, it’s not a big deal.”
“We didn’t eat together, so how can I answer you?”
“I just happened to be downstairs, and he was also downstairs, so we took the elevator up together.”
Chen Jiamu was playing dumb, but the other person was persistent: “Didn’t you hear that you were fired by the manager? How can you still come to work? Could it be, as Li Kui said, that you went to plead with the boss?”
Not knowing if he was really stupid or pretending, Chen Jiamu raised his eyebrows and stared at him amusingly. The guy’s eyes were clear, his features upright and honest – clearly someone easily manipulated.
Clear eyes, direct speech. He looked like a recent college graduate.
Thinking of this, Chen Jiamu patted him on the shoulder sympathetically: “Brother, your question is a bit too direct, isn’t it?”
“But, I didn’t just plead with the boss verbally, I also knelt down before him, crying my eyes out, begging him not to fire me.”
“Because my elderly mother needs me to support her. Without this job, I wouldn’t be able to afford her medical expenses.”
“Life is hard, we’re all just working oxen and horses kneeling on the ground.”
Chen Jiamu felt his acting was extremely moving, and this college student was very easy to deceive.
Sure enough, after hearing this, the look in the guy’s eyes changed. Along with pity and sympathy, there was a hint of determination.
He grabbed Chen Jiamu’s hand and whispered in his ear: “Actually, there’s a job that makes more money than this.”
“If you take this path, I won’t discriminate against you.”
Seeing how serious he was, Chen Jiamu became interested. What kind of job could make more money than IT?
“Oh? What is it?”
“Male model…”
“You’re very handsome, and you have a good figure. If you go there, you’ll definitely do well.”
“Those rich women like guys like you – young, handsome, and energetic…”
By the end, the guy’s face was inexplicably flushed. His ears were red like ripe peaches…
Chen Jiamu’s expression was unreadable after hearing this. No way…he…
“You…”
“Don’t misunderstand, I’m not! I don’t do that!”
“I just have friends who work there, so I know a little bit about it.”
The guy was afraid that Chen Jiamu would misunderstand him, his hands waving frantically, his eyes filled with terror.
“Very…unreadable.”
“Thank you.”
Chen Jiamu washed his hands and left, his steps quick, afraid that the guy would pull him aside to talk about it again.
No money, so become a male model…
It’s unbelievable he even said that, does this kind of background make it even more lucrative?
Sick mother, broken self?
Back at his workstation, Chen Jiamu had a strange expression. Li Qi noticed and casually asked: “What’s wrong? Is there a dog outside?”
“No.”
Chen Jiamu shook his head frantically, unwilling to say more.
After a long while, observing that Li Qi had almost finished processing her documents, Chen Jiamu said: “Do you know what they’re saying about me outside?”
“Oh? Tell me more.”
“They say you transferred me to the new workstation because you pitied me.”
“I pitied you for what?” Her hand stopped writing; Li Qi turned her head in confusion.
“They say that I went to you crying to beg you not to fire me because I needed to earn money for my sick mother’s medical expenses.”
“Just that?” If it were only that, it wouldn’t be a big deal, as such things were common.
“So I said I knelt on the ground, crying my eyes out, begging you.” Chen Jiamu laughed after saying this, leaving Li Qi speechless.
“So others set a fire, and you give them gasoline, right?”
“If anyone else in the company does this, I’ll let you handle it.”
Chen Jiamu chuckled awkwardly, touching his mouse: “But do you think they’ll really believe such an outlandish story?”
“They’re probably guessing if we know each other, they wouldn’t believe such a far-fetched story.”
That being said, sometimes unbelievable things are believed. The more normal the version, the more easily it is doubted.
In a blink of an eye, it was time to get off work.
Chen Jiamu got up and stretched. Li Qi had left the company an hour ago to discuss a contract.
Taking his phone and keys, Chen Jiamu turned off his computer and prepared to leave work.
Leaving the office and arriving at the technology department’s door, he saw someone standing at the entrance from afar.
Seeing him coming, the person jogged towards him.
“Xiao Chen!”
“Where do you live? Let me see if I’m going your way and give you a ride.”
As the person approached, Chen Jiamu saw it was the guy from the restroom at noon.
“You…”
“Oh oh, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Sun Yuan, I’m 22 years old.”
Chen Jiamu stared at him amusedly, not understanding why he was so enthusiastic towards a stranger.
“Where do you live?” Because he didn’t want others to know where he lived, Chen Jiamu asked him first.
“I live in Huacheng Apartment.”
“And you?”
Sun Yuan was very simple, making Chen Jiamu want to laugh. After thinking for a moment, Chen Jiamu feigned difficulty, furrowing his brow: “That’s too bad. I live in Lucheng Huajuan Apartment, it’s on Beifang Road, you’re not going my way.”
“Ah. You live so far away?”
This time, Sun Yuan was surprised. It was five kilometers away from the company.
“Okay.”
Sun Yuan was a little disappointed, but still went down the elevator with Chen Jiamu.
As the two stepped out of the elevator, they saw a crowd gathered in the lobby. Li Qi was surrounded in the middle, and they could hear a man’s crying.
“Boss, please, give me a chance to eat! I have young ones and elderly people to support!”
“I really can’t lose this job, please!”
Driven by the desire to get some prime gossip, especially since Li Qi was at the center of it all, he became even more curious.
But as soon as he approached, he met Li Qi’s resentful gaze…
And in front of her, a middle-aged man in black clothes was kneeling, crying and holding Li Qi’s leg…
Ah?
What happened?
