Paranoid Boss Always Wants to Possess Me CHAPTER 97

Chapter 97: Quietly Grieving

After Chen Cheng sent An Yiyi back, she hurried back to the hospital. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Li Xi suddenly received a call from the company. On the other end, his assistant’s tone was urgent, saying that Qian Chengfeng’s wife had come to the company to make a huge scene and had even hit someone.

Hearing this, Li Xi’s brow knit. What was Qian Chengfeng’s wife making a scene for?

Chen Jiamu saw his serious expression and thought something urgent must have happened at Li Xi’s company. Once the call was over, Chen Jiamu urged him to go and deal with it.

“Go and get busy. My sister will be over, and the caregiver will arrive tomorrow.”

“But…”

Li Xi hesitated for a moment. At the company, Qian Chengfeng’s wife was causing a massive disturbance, making the office atmosphere chaotic.

“Doesn’t your company have an emergency? Why are you hesitating?” Chen Jiamu frowned, not understanding his hesitation.

At a time like this, the company was definitely more important. What was there to hesitate about?

“There is indeed an emergency at the company, but it’s not about operations; it’s about Qian Chengfeng’s wife.”

“My assistant said she’s making a scene at the company entrance and has even hit people.”

“Ah?”

Chen Jiamu couldn’t help himself. If his wife was making a scene, could it be that his affair with Zhang Xin had been discovered?

If someone was hit, could that person be Zhang Xin…

“Then you need to go and handle it personally. You can’t hesitate over something that affects the company’s image.”

“Don’t worry about me. When my arm doesn’t hurt as much, I’ll go find you.”

Chen Jiamu knew what Li Xi was worried about—it was nothing more than himself.

“Really?”

Of course, Li Xi was happy that Chen Jiamu would take the initiative to find him. But at the thought of his injured arm, he dismissed the idea.

“You should still recover well. I’ll come find you immediately after I handle the company affairs.”

Chen Jiamu wasn’t wrong. This kind of matter directly affected the company’s image; he had to be present.

“Okay, I’ll wait for you.”

Chen Jiamu nodded, watching as Li Xi walked out of the ward, looking back every three steps.

Once Li Xi left, Chen Jiamu felt a bit bored. Lying on the bed, he stared at the ceiling in a daze, his mind pondering the future for him and Li Xi.

He couldn’t hide forever. He wanted to be with Li Xi openly, rather than having to hide even a couple’s bracelet like he was doing now.

“What are you thinking about?”

Chen Jiamu was so lost in thought that he didn’t even know when Chen Cheng had entered.

Hearing someone call him, Chen Jiamu snapped back to reality and turned his head to look at Chen Cheng, who was still radiating the cold air from outside.

“Did you send An Yiyi back?”

“Yes. A little girl isn’t safe outside alone.”

Chen Cheng shook off the chill, poured herself a cup of hot water, and only felt warm after taking a sip.

“Little Li went back?”

“From the look of it, the two of you have a pretty good relationship. It’s almost no different from back then.”

Chen Jiamu guiltily averted his gaze, looking at the white ceiling and stuttering, “After all, I was his little follower for a long time back then.”

“It’s only right that he looks after me now.”

“But he seemed to have something to do, so he left first.”

Chen Cheng checked the time and thought for a while. “It’s so late. I’ll head back first and have the caregiver come over now.”

“You’re going to abandon me! Fine, I get it, I’m just a lonely person in this world.”

Chen Jiamu made a show of wailing, though there wasn’t a hint of sadness on his face. Seeing him being so dramatic, Chen Cheng couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Alright, the caregiver is on the way. I’ll leave once they arrive.”

Chen Cheng gave him a look, then took out her phone to check for messages.

When she saw that Bai Jing had sent her a message inviting her to visit a new project factory tomorrow, Chen Cheng was stunned for a moment.

After thinking for a bit, she replied with an “Okay.”

The caregiver arrived quite quickly. Once Chen Cheng saw they were there, she left the hospital.

Only Chen Jiamu and the caregiver remained in the ward. The caregiver was a woman in her thirties, and once she arrived, she began busying herself with her tasks.

Chen Jiamu was happy to be left to his own devices, chatting with Li Xi on his phone intermittently.

Night deepened, and everything regarding tomorrow remained unknown. After finishing his chat with Li Xi, Chen Jiamu fell into a deep sleep.

Early the next morning, Chen Jiamu received news from Chen Cheng about the person who hit him with the brick.

The person was a local thug, and as for why he had hit Chen Jiamu, it started with the farce from that night.

Ever since the man called Bao Ge had been arrested and taken to the police station, his underlings had been complaining everywhere. This man was a follower of Bao Ge and his right-hand man.

He usually liked to wander around construction sites, stealing steel bars and the like.

This time, he saw Chen Jiamu at the site and made a move on a whim. He thought that when Bao Ge came out and saw he had avenged him, he would be credited with a merit.

He saw that Chen Jiamu was wearing a helmet and knew he couldn’t kill him. So, he just wanted to give him a taste of suffering, but he hadn’t expected Chen Jiamu to dodge.

Out of fear, he had hurriedly hidden inside. He thought he could escape, but he hadn’t expected to be caught.

After hearing her out, Chen Jiamu was speechless. Fortunately, he was lucky; had he not been wearing a helmet, he might have been reporting to the Underworld.

Speaking of that Bao Ge, Chen Jiamu inquired and learned that he had only recently been released from the station and didn’t dare show his face at all.

Chen Jiamu was speechless but had no choice but to tell Chen Cheng to handle it as she saw fit.

At the police station, Chen Cheng put away her phone, signed the receipt, and left.

She still had to go with Bai Jing to visit the factory at noon. As for that man, she would let the police handle him.

By the time she rushed back from the police station to the company, she saw a cleanly dressed Bai Jing downstairs.

He was wearing a gray-black jacket, and his pale skin had become even whiter because of the cold. On his lower half, he wore a pair of dark blue jeans that outlined his long legs.

Seeing Chen Cheng approach, he immediately brightened and ran up to her. Chen Cheng’s brow furrowed in confusion—it wasn’t time yet, why had Bai Jing come so early?

“You…”

Before Chen Cheng could finish, Bai Jing scratched his head sheepishly and said in a stuttering tone, “I… isn’t it almost noon? I thought I’d ask you to lunch.”

“Then we can go to the factory together afterward.”

“I see.”

Chen Cheng nodded thoughtfully. After a moment of silence, she agreed. “Sure, I can look at your factory report while we’re at it.”

Once Chen Cheng agreed, Bai Jing couldn’t suppress the smile on his face. Originally, Chen Cheng was going to drive, but Bai Jing insisted on driving himself.

Unable to argue with him, Chen Cheng simply let him drive.

Meanwhile, at home, An Yiyi was grieving but couldn’t withstand her longing for Chen Cheng. She ran from home to the downstairs of Chen Cheng’s company to find her.

But upon learning she wasn’t at the company and had gone out with a partner, An Yiyi sat in her car in disappointment.

Li Xi’s unfinished sentence echoed in her mind. Perhaps, loving a straight woman was a tribulation she was destined to face in this life.

Chen Cheng’s focus had never lingered on her. Perhaps in her heart, she was just a “little sister”…
