Part 2
Misa’s anger finally subsided a little.
He hid his Demon King form, changed back to his human appearance, and left the room with Arlo.
A Demon King had launched a night raid, and the Hero was in danger. As God’s Envoys, they couldn’t just not go and check on the situation.
Lance had already left the wrecked room. He was preparing to lead everyone back to Skylight City and was waiting outside the Crystal Palace. When he saw Misa and Arlo walking towards him, he just gave a calm nod as a greeting.
He looked no different from any other day.
Misa clenched his fists, remembering his anger from having his tail pulled last night. But Arlo gently pulled him back and whispered, “Don’t reveal your identity.”
Misa: “…”
Misa could only force a warm smile at Lance and say dryly, “Good morning, Lord Lance.”
Lance: “…”
Lance nodded.
Samuel also happened to rush over. He had heard about the Demon King’s night raid and was very worried about the Hero. “Lord Lance, are you alright?” he asked.
Lance just gave him a slight smile to show that he was fine, but said nothing else.
Misa gritted his teeth and clenched his fists.
Smiling.
This damn Hero, he can still smile!
Samuel nervously looked Lance up and down. “You’re not injured, are you?”
Lance: “No.”
Samuel couldn’t help but show his admiration for the Hero and asked again, “Then… did you injure him?”
Lance shook his head again. “No.”
Samuel was worried. “We should be more careful from now on.”
“He’s the Demon King,” Lance said. “The methods you use to restrain demons probably wouldn’t keep the Demon King out, right?”
Misa couldn’t help but let out a soft snort.
Well, at least this Hero has some sense.
Although the Demon King was of the demon race, he also had some mixed divine blood, making him more of a branch of the divine race. Therefore, most of the conventional methods humans used to restrain demons were ineffective against the Demon King.
Samuel grew even more worried and asked in a low voice, “Then… what should we do?”
Lance remained very calm. “He probably won’t be coming back anytime soon.”
Misa: “…”
Samuel was a little confused. “Why?”
Lance didn’t answer.
His lips curved slightly into a subtle smile.
If one hadn’t known him for a long time and wasn’t familiar with the Hero’s expressions, it would be hard to interpret this slight change as a smile.
But Misa knew the Hero very well.
He, of course, knew exactly what that expression meant.
Damn it, damn it, damn it!
How can he still smile!
Misa clenched his fists, feeling that his dignity as the great Demon King had been thoroughly humiliated by this damned Hero.
He couldn’t contain his anger and wanted to rush forward, grab the Hero by the neck, and give him a good kick.
But Arlo held onto Misa’s sleeve, not letting him take a single step forward, while anxiously whispering in his ear, “You can’t get angry.”
Misa gritted his teeth fiercely.
Arlo: “You’ll expose your identity.”
Misa: “…”
Misa took a deep breath, and another.
He felt he had finally managed to calm himself down and forced another smile as he looked at Lance.
Lance seemed curious about his and Arlo’s whispering and happened to be looking at him.
Their eyes met. Seeing Misa’s forced smile, the smile on Lance’s lips deepened.
He finally answered Samuel’s question, saying, “Because he’s scared.”
Misa: “Hah!”
Who’s scared! Who’s scared!
Lance: “At least for tonight, he definitely won’t be coming.”
Lance was right. At least for tonight, Misa had no plans to bother him.
They hurried back to Skylight City and relayed the dwarves’ message to the city’s lord. The mines of Skylight City had been abandoned for years, and it would take the dwarves some time to dig through from underground. There was no rush for the work here, so Lance wanted to move on to their next planned objective as soon as possible.
They would set out tomorrow to find the archdemon Ashby and bring back the kingdom’s Prince Devont.
Misa felt that the Hero’s way of thinking was always very simple. Following the Hero’s usual line of thought, he guessed that Lance probably wanted to rescue the human prince, send him back to the royal capital, and then have the human king help negotiate with the dragon race to get a few more ice crystal stones.
But the step of rescuing the prince was very difficult.
The two were clearly in love, yet the Hero insisted on tearing them apart. What kind of wicked thing was that!
But Misa felt he was already on the Hero’s pirate ship, so he still had to think of a way to deal with this matter.
After it was completely dark, Misa finally made up his mind.
He decided to go have a good talk with Ashby.
Misa pulled a pitch-black cloak from his trunk, covering himself from head to toe, and then snuck out of the city like a thief. He ran a long way before finally revealing his mostly recovered wings. He lovingly stroked the scorched feathers that hadn’t fully grown back and let out a deep, worried sigh.
Damn it, how did I end up with a Hero like this.
…
Lance remembered something that wasn’t particularly urgent.
He looked at the church’s heavy clock—he figured Misa probably wasn’t asleep yet, so he threw on some clothes and walked to Misa’s room, knocking on the door.
No response.
Lance frowned and called Misa’s name a few more times, but there was still no response from inside. He grew a little worried and couldn’t help but raise his hand and gently push the door.
The door happened to be ajar, and it opened with a light push. Lance subconsciously looked inside—the room was unlit and dark, but Misa didn’t seem to be there.
It was already very late. He couldn’t figure out where Misa would have gone. He stood outside the door, hesitated for a moment, and finally stepped into the room, lighting a lamp on the side as he did.
He saw a thick book on the table, open to the page about ice crystal stones. Next to it was a small booklet filled with all sorts of notes and annotations.
A few pieces of clothing were draped over the side of the bed. If Lance remembered correctly, it was the outer robe Misa had worn today, thrown aside carelessly as if he had left in a great hurry, without even having time to put his clothes away properly.
Lance: “…”
How strange.
It’s so late, and Misa left his clothes in the room… Where did he go?
Misa flew overnight to Ashby’s domain.
Ashby’s domain wasn’t far from Skylight City. After passing the volcano and heading west into the desert, it didn’t take long to find the place.
However, Ashby was a succubus who was extremely skilled in magic and illusions. He used all sorts of methods to hide his palace among the sand dunes, making it almost impossible for humans to find.
But for Misa, of course, this was not a difficult task.
He crossed the desert and stopped in front of a sand dune with the strongest magic fluctuations. Then he cast a spell. The air in front of him rippled like water, and the surrounding scenery quickly changed.
The endless desert turned into an oasis. A magnificent golden palace was hidden among the palm trees. A few beautiful young succubi were playing on a carpet in front of a fig tree, with a lazy leopard resting nearby. When it saw Misa suddenly appear, it just twitched its ears slightly and lay back down.
Good, very familiar.
Everything was to Ashby’s aesthetic taste. And the young succubi were just playing around, not doing anything strange or unsuitable for outsiders to see. This lack of debauchery meant Ashby was probably home today. He had come at the right time.
Misa strode forward. A sharp-eyed young succubus saw him and immediately perked up. He flapped his wings and shot up, eager to hang on him, while calling out in a sickly sweet voice, “Demon King~ Why have you come~”
Misa shivered.
He had never been good at dealing with these overly enthusiastic succubi. He was a little nervous, but this was a succubus’s nature, and they hadn’t done anything wrong. So Misa just shook his head at them, tried to keep his distance, and asked, “Where’s Ashby?”
The young succubus gave Misa a perfect, seductive wink and said, “Lord Ashby… is probably in the flower room behind the pavilion.”
Misa looked in the direction he pointed. Behind the pavilion was a flower room surrounded by countless clusters of flowers. The door was open. Misa glanced that way, nodded solemnly, and then slapped away the succubus’s hand, which was reaching out with strange intentions.
He walked quickly towards the room, but another succubus suddenly came to his senses, as if he had remembered something very important. He hurriedly shouted at Misa, “Demon King! You’d better not—”
The door was open, and Misa had already reached it.
Misa: “Ashby! You—”
Misa: “…”
Misa: “…”
Misa slammed the door to the flower room shut for them.
