Chapter 60: The Shattered Gate to Another World
Misha did not want to be the scapegoat for this at all.
The Gate to Another Worldâthat was something the gods placed in the human world to freely connect with the Divine Realm. Even if he really was the villainous Great Demon Lord opposing the Divine Realm, he wouldn’t dare to smash that thing, would he?
There were only a few Gates to Another World in the human realm. Misha could figure out with his eyes closed that whoever smashed the Gate would inevitably face divine punishment from the Divine Realm.
The Divine Realm would definitely send someone to investigate what had happened. And once someone from the Divine Realm arrived… Misha thought, this overly disqualified Hero would definitely attract their attention.
Misha started to get a headache.
When he was in the Divine Realm, he spent most of his time studying Demon Lord courses and undergoing Demon Lord training. He hadn’t paid attention to other gods. He didn’t know who the Divine Realm would send to investigate the Gate. He just hoped… if they ran a little faster and reached the Royal Capital earlier, maybe Lance wouldn’t have to face the coming envoy from the Divine Realm.
Misha was a little panicked, and Arlo noticed it.
While Samuel was explaining to the Hero what had happened in the Holy Land, Arlo glanced at the Hero. Pretending to discuss the shattered Gate with Misha, he walked a little distance away from Lance before asking Misha, “Last nightâ”
Misha raised a question first.
“The Divine Realm will send someone to investigate, right?” Misha was very puzzled. “The Gate to Another World… can actually be shattered?”
Arlo sighed and said, “It’s very difficult. There shouldn’t be many people capable of shattering the Gate.”
Misha: “Maybe… it wasn’t a human?”
“It shouldn’t be a human,” Arlo said. “That is something even you and I would find difficult to do.”
Misha was stunned, somewhat surprised: “Even we can’t do it?”
“That is divine power from the Supreme God King.” Arlo lowered his voice and whispered, “It is said that only Ancient Magic could possibly damage it.”
Misha frowned and began to ponderâhow many people in the human world could possibly master Ancient Magic?
Hmm, as far as he knew, the dwarves seemed to know some, but dwarves wouldn’t run to this place. And their so-called geomancy didn’t seem to be offensive magic; it shouldn’t have the ability to break the Gate.
As for others… Misha thought that Ancient Magic, which even the gods found hard to research thoroughly, was an impossible goal for humans.
No suspect came to mind, but Arlo added softly, “But this time, it was destroyed directly.”
Misha paused and looked at Arlo again.
Knowing some Ancient Magic might at most damage the Gate. But the ability to directly destroy it… Misha almost dared not think about it.
Arlo: “It is difficult for humans to have such terrifying power.”
Arlo paused for a moment, then, almost involuntarily, turned his head slightly to look at Lance, who was listening to Samuel explain what the Gate to Another World was.
The only person he found suspicious could only be this strange Hero.
Misha naturally noticed Arlo’s gaze.
He knew Arlo suspected Lance. The Hero was a mystery from head to toe and seemed to be deliberately hiding his strength. If Misha were in Arlo’s shoes, he would suspect Lance too.
But it couldn’t be the Hero.
Although Misha had fallen asleep during the night, his sleep was intermittent, with only brief periods of unconsciousness. The Elven Holy Land was huge, and protected by magic. He didn’t believe the Hero could run into the Holy Land, destroy the Gate, and rush back to lie beside him as if nothing happened in such a short time.
“It can’t be him,” Misha said firmly. “He was there all night last night.”
Arlo: “…”
Arlo nodded worriedly.
He had no other suspects, but that was even more terrifying.
He thought there was a powerful enemy lurking in the dark whom they didn’t know, intending to harm the Divine Realm. And they didn’t know who this person was.
He was very panicked.
Misha coughed again and asked tentatively, “For something like this, we should contact Genesis, right?”
Arlo shook his head.
“I can’t contact Genesis.” He sighed with worry. “After the Gate was smashed, the connection between the area near the Elven Holy Land and the Divine Realm was cut off.”
Misha: “…”
Misha froze.
This was obviously a result Misha hadn’t anticipated.
After the Gate was destroyed, the connection between this area and the Divine Realm was severed. That meant the people here would lose the oracles they relied on for survival. At least until the Gate was repaired, their doubts could not be answered by God, nor would gods come to provide solutions to their difficulties.
This place was going to fall into chaos instantly!!!
Misha began to panic too.
“Can this thing… be repaired?” Misha swallowed nervously. “How large of an area does it affect?”
“I’m not clear on the exact locations of the other Gates,” Arlo sighed again. “We can’t contact Genesis here either. We might have to return to Sky City to figure out what is going on.”
Misha: “…”
“But if we wait here a few more days, we should see the Church or the Divine Realm sending someone to solve this problem.” Arlo paused slightly, seeming to ponder who they would encounter next, and couldn’t help sighing with worry. “But no matter who comes, it definitely won’t be good news.”
Misha was very worried.
He walked back with Arlo and saw that Samuel seemed to have finished his explanation. They only caught Samuel’s last sentence.
“The Gate to Another World lies in the direction of the Tree of Life,” Samuel said. “The Elf Priest has already gone to check.”
Misha couldn’t help but freeze, turning his head to look at the Tree of Life he had visited during the day.
Looking from the elven town, he could only see the distant cliffs of the frozen snowfield and the massive crown of the Tree of Life. In the night sky, the branches of the Tree glowed with a faint golden light, but at this moment, behind that golden radiance, there was a dark purple glimmer visible to the naked eye.
That feeling was exactly the same as the residual magic Misha had glimpsed on Lance. However, the magic diffused in the air due to the shattering of the Gate was more twisted, bringing a terrifying sense of oppression. It covered most of the sky on that side. Just one look, and Misha couldn’t suppress the indescribable fear rising in his heart.
He couldn’t even control himself from thinking: the Gate to Another World was clearly magic left in the human world by the God Kingâdivine power of the gods. Why would it emit such eerie dark light when destroyed?
Lance also frowned, looking in the direction Samuel pointed.
The elves were responsible for guarding the Holy Land but couldn’t approach it rashly. Even with the Gate destroyed, so far only the Elf Priest had climbed a nearby high cliff to take a rough look at the situation inside the Holy Land from the outside.
They saw the shattered Gate but couldn’t violate the divine order to approach and investigate. They had to report this to the Church and wait for the Church’s response. But before that, there were people within the Elven territory who could enter the Holy Land directly.
“Only the Chosen One can enter the Holy Land.” Samuel swallowed nervously and whispered, “Lord Lance, youâ”
“Alright.” Lance suddenly interrupted Samuel, looking at the pitch-black sky again. “Go back to sleep.”
Samuel: “Sleep… huh?”
Arlo: “…”
Misha couldn’t help but shout, “How can you sleep!”
That was the Gate to Another World, a miracle left by the God King in the world. The miracle was destroyed, yet the Hero only thought about sleeping.
Misha really couldn’t understand the Hero’s mindset. He frowned, staring intently at the Hero. Lance just yawned and said, “We can’t get in anyway.”
Samuel: “But you areâ”
Lance: “The elves won’t allow us in.”
Samuel: “…”
Lance: “At the earliest, we have to wait for the Church’s reply.”
Samuel: “…”
“Besides, for such a big event, the Church will send someone over.” Lance nodded, evidently very satisfied with his conclusion. “Since none of us know Ancient Magic, going there would only add to their trouble.”
Samuel seemed convinced.
He hesitated, nodded, and, following his usual habit, agreed with the Hero’s idea. “Then… let’s wait for the Church’s people to arrive.”
Misha felt the Hero’s logic was a bit off. With such a huge event happening right in front of them, the Hero seemed way too calm.
Arlo obviously shared the suspicion. He exchanged a glance with Misha, probably thinking that since this Hero was always this outrageous, making such a decision didn’t seem that strange.
So Misha followed Lance back to their room. He turned to close the door, catching a final glimpse of the sky filled with anomalies through the slowly closing gap. Then he suddenly paused, freezing by the door, abruptly realizing the weirdness in that conversation just now.
Wait, what did the Hero… just say to Samuel?
âSince none of us know Ancient Magic, going there would only add to their trouble?
How did the Hero know the Gate to Another World was destroyed by Ancient Magic?
Misha whipped around, but before he could question the Hero, Lance grabbed his arm, covered his mouth with one hand, and pinned him against the door.
Misha’s eyes went wide, looking at the Hero in front of him in disbelief.
It seemed to be the first time he saw such a slightly dangerous look in those ice-blue eyes. It sent a chill down his spine, and he tried his best to lean back.
Misha was practically pressed flat against the wall, while Lance tilted his head slightly, leaning close to his ear.
“Oops, I seem to have misspoken.” He didn’t sound nervous at all; there even seemed to be a faint smile in his tone. “Fortunately, I think aside from you, none of them noticed.”
