Popular Guide: S-Class Sentinels All Want to Monopolize Me Chapter 52

Chapter 52. Completely Ineffective

Early the next morning, in the Medical Department’s examination room, Anse was already sitting there very early.

“Since you’re here, why haven’t you come in yet?”

Xiao Wei extremely reluctantly received its master’s order, jumped down from the soft and comfortable seat on the side, and taking light, nimble steps, pushed open the door to the Medical Department.

In the corridor outside the door, Yasuo leaned against the wall on one side. Seeing the door open, the black cat on his shoulder jumped down quietly. Taking elegant little steps, it brushed past Xiao Wei and leisurely walked into the examination room.

Bafflingly brushed against by another Sentinel’s spiritual entity, Xiao Wei’s entire body bristled up. Its tail stood up high in alert, arching its back, and bared its teeth at that black cat that acted as if no one else existed.

That black cat acted as if it couldn’t see the little fox at all. It casually walked into the examination room, exerted force with its front limbs, and jumped onto the soft armchair on the side, curling itself up and elegantly licking the fur on its paws.

“Since you’re here, hurry up and come in to sit down. Spiritual entities are much more straightforward than you.”

Anse casually glanced at the black cat, then waved his hand, calling back the bristling little fox.

Yasuo walked into the examination room and familiarly sat down on the examination chair, his fingertips unconsciously tapping on the armrest.

“Did those old men at the White Tower not approve funding for you? This place of yours is still as shabby as ever.”

“What’s the use of so many useless decorations, as long as it works.”

Despite saying so, Yasuo still looked at the examination chair he was sitting on with quite some disdain. The comfort level was average, and the appearance was even more average. The massive amount of funding the White Tower allocated to the Medical Department every year truly felt a bit wasted in Anse’s hands.

Seeing Yasuo sit properly on the chair, Anse manipulated his spiritual power while turning on the testing equipment to assist in his judgment. However, the moment he made contact with Yasuo’s body, Anse froze completely. He lowered his head to look for the data transmitted from the testing instrument.

“How could it be this high?”

The situation was even worse than his initial judgment yesterday. Yasuo’s spiritual power was like a ball of yarn tangled with thousands of dead knots, so messy it made one feel annoyed and restless.

“That potion is useless on me.”

Yasuo stated this conclusion with a flat tone. That voice was like a pool of stagnant water, unable to stir up even a single ripple.

“Not only is it useless, your spiritual power seems to have developed a strong rejection reaction toward it. Your body’s drug resistance is a huge chunk higher than estimated.”

Anse looked at the results transmitted from the testing instrument, his eyes darkening. Every Sentinel who relied on potions to control their riot value would develop a bit of drug resistance to some extent. Due to the special nature of the Fifth Squad’s missions, the Fifth Squad’s Sentinels needed to use a massive amount of suppressants on almost every mission. He knew Yasuo’s drug resistance would be stronger than average Sentinels, but Anse didn’t expect it to be this much higher than estimated.

Yasuo twitched the corners of his mouth, revealing a mocking smile.

“So, this medicine you developed is just making things worse?”

“How could it progress so fast.”

Anse pulled up the component analysis chart of the potion, his fingertips swiping across the various data displayed on the screen.

“This is the most potent stabilizer the White Tower can formulate at present. Shen Ji also used it before; although the effect wasn’t ideal, it ultimately worked. Yet you…”

He didn’t continue, but the meaning was self-evident.

Yasuo’s condition was worse than Shen Ji’s.

Yasuo’s fingertips clenched fiercely, his knuckles turning white from the force. After injecting the potion last night, he felt his spiritual power was like lit dry grass, burning even more fiercely. He hadn’t slept all night. His entire consciousness sea was crazily clamoring for him to find a Guide. He was afraid that after he fell asleep, the one who woke up would be a piece of trash completely controlled by the riot value. Bearing immense mental pressure, he hadn’t closed his eyes all night.

“The potions I gave you before, it’s not that you didn’t use them, but rather they had no effect at all after you used them, right?”

Anse suddenly remembered those suppressants he had stuffed into his hands right before he went on the mission. Yasuo’s silence similarly indicated he tacitly agreed with Anse’s thought.

Damn it, was his drug resistance already this high so early on?

Yet he hadn’t even noticed, and had given him those low-tier suppressants. This mission was also to the Abyss boundary. How on earth did this guy carry such a high riot value and manage to bring those people back alive?

“Are there any other methods?”

Yasuo’s voice was very low, carrying a trace of suppressed irritation.

Anse was silent for a moment. He turned and took out another deep blue potion from the medicine cabinet. The large words “Unexperimented” pasted on the label made him pause.

“This is newly researched and hasn’t undergone experimentation. The side effects are unknown, perhaps…”

“No need.”

Yasuo interrupted him and stood up.

“Useless things will be the same no matter how many times you try.”

The man’s words carried deep self-loathing.

Anse pursed his lips. His fingers placed that deep blue potion back in its original place. Looking closely, his fingertips still carried a slight tremble.

As a doctor, he knew Yasuo’s current situation better than anyone. The potion failing meant that Yasuo’s spiritual power had completely collapsed and had already entered the final countdown.

The door to the examination room was closed, cutting off the light from outside.

In the confined space, no one spoke, making it seem very quiet for a while.

Anse leaned against the medicine cabinet. Perhaps, he could ask Su Tang to help.

But he had just said those words to her yesterday, and now he was going to ask her to perform purification for a Sentinel. If so, what difference was there between him and those greedy Sentinels who only knew how to take from her?

“Anse, tell me, what difference is there between us people and those consumables that can be discarded anytime, anywhere?”

Yasuo leaned his back against the backrest of the examination chair, tilting his head slightly to look at the pure white ceiling.

The flashing red light in the corner indicated that the testing instrument was working at all times. Yasuo laughed self-mockingly.

“There is still a difference. When those consumables break, they can be reused after repairs. Things like us, once we can no longer be used, we will be disgustingly destroyed and thrown away like trash.”

Anse didn’t speak. He knew what Yasuo said was true.

There were thousands and millions of Sentinels. The loss of one wouldn’t arouse the heartache of those people higher up. To them, Sentinels were no different from weapons that could be mass-produced.

“Yasuo, go to Su Tang and give it a try…”

Anse closed his eyes and finally spoke the thought he had pondered countless times in his heart. He didn’t want to see Yasuo walk down the path of destruction just like that.

“Her? She doesn’t have a good impression of me. How could I dare to think of letting a Guide risk the danger of my backlash to give me a deep purification?”

Yasuo stood up from the examination chair.

“I will apply to those old fogeys to enter the Abyss one more time.”

“Anse, thanks.”
