Chapter 67. S-Class Guide
There were no high-level Guides within the Bai Ta, but he recalled seeing information in certain records where experts speculated that if a Guide’s spiritual power reached a certain threshold, a Spiritual Core would germinate in the depths of the Spiritual Sea. Once that Spiritual Core matured, a spiritual entity would be born.
Based on this theory, combined with what he had personally felt, Su Tang’s current spiritual power level…
Could perhaps be judged as S-Class?
This discovery shook him to his core, causing his spiritual power to scatter uncontrollably into the surroundings.
This sudden surge of fluctuation made Su Tang feel uncomfortable. It was as if her most central and sensitive area was being repeatedly trampled upon. The little fox in her arms buried its head in her palm, licking the tender flesh of her hand bit by bit. Su Tang frowned to suppress the discomfort, but her spiritual power instinctively sought out An Se’s spiritual power to envelop it.
An Se’s body stiffened abruptly, his back tensing instantly. A strong wave of tingling surged up from his tailbone, nearly causing him to let out a groan.
He bit his lower lip hard to prevent any unseemly sounds from escaping his throat.
It was too enticing…
Especially that Spiritual Core, which looked gentle yet inviolable. He felt his rationality like a defeated army before a city gate, liable to be swallowed at any moment. Every cell in his body was clamoring to get closer to that energy core, to feel that warmth…
“Director An Se.”
Su Tang sensed the violent fluctuation of his spiritual power. She bit her lip and, before the next wave of pleasure arrived, she couldn’t help but speak.
“Are you alright?”
An Se was awakened by Su Tang’s voice. Snapping back to his senses, he realized his spiritual power was wandering uncontrollably within her Spiritual Sea, and some had even begun to approach that Spiritual Core.
An Se trembled all over and quickly withdrew his spiritual power before it could spiral out of control. He slowly retreated from the Spiritual Sea, leaving the warm place inch by inch along the path he had entered. Only when the last strand of spiritual power was reclaimed did An Se let out a heavy breath.
His body felt uncontrollably weak. He leaned heavily against the back of his chair, his chest heaving violently and his fingertips trembling slightly. He couldn’t muster an ounce of strength in his entire body.
Feeling the man’s spiritual power exit her body, Su Tang shrugged and moved her limbs.
Reclaiming her own spiritual power, her body seemed to still hold the memories of just now. The flush on her face had not yet receded. She calmed her heartbeat, which was somewhat abnormal due to her agitated state.
She looked at An Se, who was sitting opposite her, leaning heavily against the chair with layers of sweat on his forehead. She asked softly:
“Director An Se, how are the test results?”
An Se closed his eyes. It took a long while before he felt his strength return. No wonder it took Ya Suo half an hour to recover here yesterday; this feeling was truly soul-consuming.
An Se raised his hand and pushed up his sliding gold-rimmed glasses. The eyes behind the lenses were startlingly bright as he stared intently at Su Tang with excitement.
“Su Tang, I discovered that a nearly mature Spiritual Core is germinating in the depths of your Spiritual Sea!”
Su Tang froze, her fingertips unconsciously stroking the ring of soft fur around the little fox’s neck.
“A Spiritual Core? What is that?”
“Simply put, you can understand it as an unformed spiritual entity.”
An Se’s voice rose involuntarily. He glanced at the surrounding mechanical equipment and consciously lowered his voice again.
“This situation is extremely rare. I’ve only seen descriptions of it in records. Legend says that when a Guide’s spiritual power reaches a certain concentration, a Spiritual Core will germinate in the deepest part of the Spiritual Sea. Once it matures, the Guide’s spiritual entity will be born.”
He paused, calming his emotions and trying to organize his thoughts.
“I now suspect that during your last test, your spiritual power was entirely focused on nourishing this core, which is why your disposable spiritual power was so low that you were judged as F-grade. After being marked by Zhan Ye and Mo Xiao, you left channels in their Spiritual Seas. Perhaps their spiritual power sensed your need and instinctively fed back into you.”
“Your current spiritual power is very abundant within your Spiritual Sea. I judge that your current grade might have reached S-Class, or perhaps even higher.”
Su Tang listened in a daze, a storm surging in her heart. She had thought her grade might be high, but she hadn’t expected to learn about a Spiritual Core.
No wonder she had spiritual power in the original host’s memories, yet she had been abandoned with almost no spiritual power at the start. It turned out that all of the original host’s spiritual power was being used to nourish this core at the time.
Seeing her shocked expression, An Se softened his tone. With a hint of comfort, he said softly:
“During this test, I found that your spiritual power activity is very high. The Spiritual Core in your sea looks like it’s about to mature; it is continuously generating new spiritual power and giving it back to you. This means…”
“You don’t need to worry about your spiritual power being exhausted at all during this mission.”
An Se was silent for a moment before adding:
“But there are also hidden dangers. While the Spiritual Core is maturing, your spiritual power will be more active than usual. Aside from the attraction to Sentinels, high-purity Guide spiritual power is seductive to those high-level contaminants. On this mission, you must practice your control over your spiritual power. Be careful not to be noticed by those high-level creatures, or it might trigger a swarm.”
An Se thought carefully and still felt it was a bit risky to let Su Tang go on the mission now. This was the highest-grade Guide he had ever known, and she was on the eve of her spiritual entity’s birth. Putting her in the dangerous Abyss was, frankly, a bit inappropriate.
“Guide Su Tang, why don’t you skip this mission?”
Su Tang thought it over but eventually declined An Se’s kindness.
“This is a joint mission between the First and Third Squads. Moreover, Mo Xiao already reported my assigned Sentinel to the Mission Office this morning. If news gets out now that I’m not going, it will raise suspicions over there.”
An Se sighed deeply. If he had known, he would have tested her spiritual power right after she finished the counseling for Ya Suo last night.
“By the way, Director An Se, regarding the results of this test, I hope…”
“Don’t worry, I understand.”
“The period before a spiritual entity’s birth is the most critical time to avoid too much attention. Besides, those old fogies at the Bai Ta don’t deserve to know this news.”
A fragile Guide with immense potential—if those profit-driven old men at the Bai Ta knew her value, demanding she extract large amounts of Guide pheromones to store spiritual power would be the least of it. He feared they would use Su Tang in other ways; the Fourth Squad was a perfect example.
Thinking of this, An Se lowered his eyes and gave Su Tang a deep look.
“However, I suggest you still give Mo Xiao and Zhan Ye a heads-up.”
