Chapter 88: She Can Reverse-Absorb
Disorderly fangs filled the massive mouth, and disgusting red sarcomas grew along the edges of its lips. The maw was wide open now, the eyes atop its tentacles glowing with greedy red light as they fixed onto the Moon Jellyfish.
Su Tang frowned. Is it… trying to absorb my spiritual entity’s power? It was truly insatiable.
The squelching sound returned as it slowly approached them, the suckers at the ends of its tentacles snapping open and shut.
âRoarââ
The Golden Eagle broke through the swarming pollutants and flew toward Su Tang. Seeing Zhan Ye lying on her lap, its spirit power grew increasingly restless. Su Tang noticed the black mist surrounding the eagle was thickening and frowned.
âGolden Eagle, help me guard your master.â
Su Tang gently moved the man from her lap to a slightly cleaner spot nearby. She instructed the eagle to stay by his side to prevent any stray pollutants from causing further harm. Su Tang propped one hand against the wall and used the support to slowly stand up.
The Moon Jellyfish moved to Su Tangâs side, its pale blue tentacles spreading out. In the dim environment, it cast flecks of holy light.
The creature released all its tentacles. Several dark-red, slime-covered limbs lunged to envelop the jellyfish. Su Tang lowered her eyes, watching the little jellyfish dodge between the tentacles. The sharp pain in her Sea of Consciousness felt like a dull saw repeatedly hacking at her nerves.
She could feel that since the little jellyfish had been forced to awaken, her spirit power was slowly recovering, aside from the physical pain.
The suckers on the tentacles looked like disgusting parasites attached to dark-red branches. Up close, they were revolting.
âDonât touch them,â Su Tang whispered a reminder.
The Moon Jellyfishâs umbrella body contracted slightly, its body nimbly darting between the tentacles. Having failed to get what it wanted for so long, the Cocoon lost its patience. The tentacles lunging at the jellyfish suddenly enlarged several times over. Simultaneously, the cluster of sarcomas attached to the ceiling suddenly seemed to gain life, lunging straight for the Moon Jellyfish.
The jellyfish turned, dodging the ambush from the sarcomas, but it couldn’t avoid the tentacle the Cocoon suddenly whipped around. The suckers snapped onto the jellyfishâs umbrella body. A powerful suction erupted instantly, and the silver-blue glow dimmed at a visible speed. Su Tang frowned, sensing her newly recovered strength beginning to deplete again. The frustration in her heart reached a peak.
The pale blue tentacles floating in the air began to tremble slightly, and the jellyfish let out a faint hum. Su Tangâs eyelashes fluttered as she forcibly suppressed her physical discomfort. A faint smile curled on her lips. She looked at the Cocoon, which was greedily dripping slime as if it had tasted a delicacy. Her eyes were as calm as a pool of dead water.
âYou really are insatiable…â she murmured.
The blood seeping from the corners of her eyes dried on her cheeks. Because of the energy drain, she could no longer suppress the metallic sweetness in her throat, and it flowed from the corner of her lips. Su Tangâs gaze toward the Cocoon was like looking at a lifeless object. The pale blue light on the jellyfish grew dimmer, yet Su Tangâs smile widened. Blood traced a line from her mouth across her fair skin, carrying away the grime on her face and dripping onto the filthy ground.
The girl parted her lips slightly.
âUnfortunately, Iâm not a generous person.â
âWhatever you took from me, give it back tenfold…â
Her soft, brittle voice echoed through the empty cave. With those words, the Moon Jellyfishâs trembling abruptly stopped, and its dim glow surged back to life.
Sensing a massive amount of her own spirit power within the Cocoon, Su Tang tried to respond to it. Once the connection was established, she immediately intensified her link with her spiritual entity.
The tentacles that had been firmly attached to the jellyfishâs body suddenly took on a pale blue glow. The one-way energy drain instantly reversed. Like an opened floodgate, massive amounts of spirit power were funneled back through the tentacles into the jellyfish.
âUgh…â
In her Sea of Consciousness, the return of massive spirit power scoured her newly built, fragile barriers. Su Tang endured the tremors in her body and increased the suction further.
âRoarâ!â
The Cocoonâs roar shifted from excitement to terror. it twisted its body frantically to break free, only to find its tentacles pinned in place. No matter how hard it struggled, it couldn’t retract them. The massive, disgusting body rolled across the filthy ground, but the tentacles remained stubbornly stuck to the jellyfishâs umbrella. Pale blue energy was funneled back into the jellyfish bit by bit. Su Tang watched the scene silently, her face expressionless, yet her clenched fists trembled uncontrollably, revealing the immense pain she was enduring.
As the absorbed blue energy returned, Su Tang gradually adapted to the discomfort. But the reverse-absorption didn’t stop. The tentacles were not released. This time, what was funneled into the jellyfish was white spirit power.
This was… the Cocoonâs own energy.
White spirit power surged through the tentacles into the jellyfish and was then absorbed bit by bit into her Sea of Consciousness. The stinging pain of her mind combined with the scalding heat of the energy influx, making her fingertips shake.
She stared fixedly at the Cocoon thrashing on the ground. She watched the dark-red tentacles wither and turn gray from the energy loss. Her smile deepened, and her eyes grew brighter.
So, she could even absorb its spirit power.
âYouâve been siphoning me for so long; itâs time for you to taste it too.â
Su Tang mobilized her internal spirit power, commanding the jellyfish to increase the suction. The eyes atop the Cocoonâs tentacles were filled with terror. It could feel its core energy draining away rapidly. Its massive body shrunk at a visible speed, and the slime coating its surface peeled away in large patches, falling to the ground and emitting a foul stench.
âRoarâ!â
It suddenly arched its body, and the bone spike in its abdomen slammed into the hard ground. It shook its body violently, but the tentacles seemed to have grown onto the jellyfish. No matter how it struggled, they remained stuck.
âCanât handle it already? Boring.â
âI was just starting to have fun.â
Su Tang continued to urge her power. The speed of the Cocoonâs energy loss grew faster and faster, and its pathetic roars became increasingly weak.
