Chapter 91: It Swallowed the Cocoon
She tried to sit up suddenly, but her body felt like it was filled with lead. The moment she lifted herself slightly, a wave of dizziness pinned her back to the bed. Her vision flickered black.
“You can barely sit up right now. Going there won’t help.”
Anse pressed her shoulder. Su Tang struggled for a moment, but the dizziness grew stronger, so she could only sit back down under his strength.
“I know you’re anxious, but in your current condition, it’s useless even if you go.”
Seeing Su Tang calm down, Anse’s tone softened.
“Zhan Ye is in a medical pod. The Third Squad Sentinels are all guarding him. If anything happens, they’ll come find me immediately. Right now, the most important thing is for you to rest. If you really want to help him, wait until you’ve recovered, and then wake him up yourself.”
Anse’s words calmed Su Tang a little. She knew he was right; she couldn’t help him as she was. She had to repair the damage to her Sea of Consciousness first.
“Do you have any way to make me recover faster?”
Anse arched an eyebrow. There were always ways.
“The White Tower has a spirit power repair pod specifically for Guides. It has great restorative functions for mental damage. However, to use it, you need to apply to the higher-ups in advance, and all your physical data will be synchronized to the White Tower’s public terminal.”
Su Tang frowned. “Is there another way?” Having seen the coldness of the White Tower, she didn’t dare hand over her trump cards to them.
“There is one more.” He paused. “The damage to your mental barrier is ultimately caused by an excessive influx of spirit power. You can try meditation—enter your Sea of Consciousness and help the turbulent spirit power return to its channels. Aside from glucose for physical recovery, the medicine I injected you with contains spirit-soothing agents. It should help.”
Su Tang nodded and thanked Anse sincerely.
“No need to thank me. I didn’t save your life; you should thank Ya Suo. To get the pilot to take off, that fellow threatened the crew with a knife. He’s currently locked in a detention room. If you’re okay here, I’ll go check on him.”
So their return was thanks to Ya Suo. Su Tang lowered her eyes. It was impossible not to be moved; kindness in a time of desperate need was always precious.
“Can you bring him out?”
The White Tower treated its Sentinels even more coldly than she had imagined. Could Anse really bring Ya Suo back? Meeting the girl’s questioning gaze, Anse curled his lips slightly.
“Don’t worry. They’ll give me that much face. After all, I’m holding a truth they absolutely don’t want made public.”
The truth…
With the soft click of the door closing, Su Tang was left alone. She wondered what truth Anse was referring to, but the moment she started thinking, a tearing pain swept through her body. She leaned against the headboard and closed her eyes to rest. In her current state, thinking too much was useless; she needed to organize her shattered Sea of Consciousness first.
Taking a deep breath, she slowly sank her consciousness into her mind. As soon as she entered, the familiar dull pain surged, like tiny needles pricking her nerves. Su Tang followed her previous route into the depths of her mind. At the very center, where the Spirit Core used to be, there was indeed a pale blue light cluster. The aura was warm and gentle—the exact aura of the Moon Jellyfish.
She remembered the last second before she fainted: the jellyfish had completely enveloped the Cocoon. What happened after that? She remembered Anse saying her spiritual entity was in a deep sleep, yet she could clearly feel that since she entered, the blue light had been pulsing rhythmically. It didn’t look like a deep sleep at all.
Su Tang tried to extend a finger, lightly touching the pale blue membrane. The moment they made contact, she felt warm energy spread from her fingertip with a familiar sense of intimacy. The gentle energy was slowly funneled into her body, and soon, Su Tang felt the pain fading significantly.
With the discomfort easing, Su Tang opened her eyes. She noticed the pale blue light was becoming transparent. She could even see that enveloped within the blue membrane was a cluster of white matter. That matter was being decomposed and devoured by the silver-blue glow bit by bit.
Su Tang’s consciousness shuddered. That energy… it came from the Cocoon.
So that was it.
She finally understood. Her spiritual entity wasn’t sleeping; it was digesting that energy. This newly awakened entity had quietly swallowed all of that pollutant’s energy during the three days she was unconscious, and was now slowly absorbing it in her mind.
Su Tang suppressed the shock in her heart. Her thumb and index finger rubbed together. Sensing her emotional turmoil, the light cluster swayed slightly as if responding. The silver-blue glow flickered, and the white mass inside grew visibly smaller. The decomposed energy merged into her Sea of Consciousness through the glow, easing the dull pain and making her spirit power grow slowly.
Her spirit power was recovering so fast because the little jellyfish was feeding her mind while digesting the Cocoon’s energy.
At this rate, she would recover very quickly.
This discovery lit a spark of hope in Su Tang’s heart, but she also became more certain: this must never be told to anyone. A Guide’s spiritual entity being able to devour a pollutant and absorb its energy was simply too inconceivable. Until she could master this ability and become stronger, she couldn’t let anyone in the White Tower know.
Su Tang pulled her finger away from the blue membrane and began manipulating the spirit power in her mind to reinforce the barriers. She lost track of time as she worked.
The night, like ink-soaked silk, silently covered the daylight. A sudden warm yellow light broke Su Tang’s silence.
“Why aren’t the lights on? What are you thinking about?”
The door lock clicked, and Mo Xiao walked in, switching on the light by the door. He had changed into a new black combat suit, the collar open to reveal a bit of white bandage at his collarbone. He had just come from a meeting with the Tower officials, and his eyes held lingering exhaustion and anger from a recent disagreement. The moment he saw Su Tang, his gaze softened.
“I was rebuilding my spirit barriers and lost track of time.”
Su Tang looked at the darkness outside. Had so much time passed already? Although the barriers in her mind were more stable, they still throbbed with pain. The efficiency was a bit too low. Was there another way to increase her usable spirit power?
