Chapter 35 So-Called Nobility?
The sharp, icy words instantly froze Qian Li’s expression. She stared at Su Mo in disbelief, unable to comprehend what she’d just heard. She stood there, speechless.
Su Mo smirked. Their past accounts weren’t settled, and now, in their first encounter in this life, Qian Li wanted to use her as a pawn. Did she think Su Mo was a fool?
A chill seemed to freeze the air; the words echoed in the silence.
After a moment, Qian Li recovered. Her pretty face was filled with displeasure, her eyes flashing with anger. Her sweet voice was sharp with reproach, “Mo Mo, how could you say that? Chen didn’t mean to hurt you; you’re being too harsh.”
“Hurt?” Su Mo’s laughter was laced with mockery, her eyes sharp. She smiled playfully, “What does that have to do with me?”
Qian Li’s eyes widened in disbelief, her anger rising, “How can you talk like that? Do you know how guilty Chen has been because of you?”
“Guilty?” Su Mo took a step closer, the chill around her pressing against Qian Li. Her voice was icy, “So, you mean I should forgive him because of his guilt?”
Her cold laughter echoed, an icy aura filled the air, creating a sinister atmosphere. Her bloodthirst was chilling.
It was just a single step, but Qian Li felt as if a mountain had descended upon her. She involuntarily stepped back, her body rigid, her lips parted, unable to speak.
Su Mo smiled mockingly, “I wonder if you’re his friend or mine. Why are you always taking his side?”
A flicker of panic appeared in Qian Li’s eyes, as if a secret had been revealed. Her face flushed with shame. Looking at Su Mo, her clear eyes welled up with tears. Her voice was soft and pitiful, “I’m not, but Chen and the others are in danger, so…”
She trailed off, her head down, her lips quivering, appearing as if Su Mo had wronged her.
Watching her feigned distress, Su Mo remained silent, finding it amusing. In her past life, she hadn’t realized how good Qian Li was at acting. Or perhaps, she was simply too foolish then.
Qian Li assumed that Su Mo was just angry and would soften if she lowered her head. But when Su Mo remained silent, she looked up.
Su Mo’s icy gaze was emotionless, her delicate face devoid of feeling, as if she hadn’t heard anything.
Seeing Su Mo’s unmoved expression, Qian Li gritted her teeth, continuing, “Mo Mo, Chen is our classmate, please go save him.”
“Save him?” Su Mo’s laughter sounded like the world’s best joke. Her face was icy, “Sorry, I don’t have that obligation.”
“Su Mo…” Qian Li’s sharp voice betrayed her composure. Her face flushed red with anger, “How can you be so selfish?”
“Selfish?” Su Mo’s icy gaze met Qian Li’s resentful one. A mocking smile played on her lips. “If you’re so noble, why didn’t you stay and die with them? Why did you run away?”
The words silenced Qian Li. Her eyes widened in disbelief.
Su Mo sneered at her stunned expression, a touch of mockery in her voice. Did she think Su Mo was still the fool she could manipulate?
A cold smile touched her lips, her voice sarcastic, “If you can’t do it, don’t act so noble.”
Qian Li felt humiliated. She lowered her head, her nails digging into her palms, resentment rising within her.
Even Su Mo noticed the change in Qian Li’s aura; she stood alert.
Su Mo thought Qian Li wouldn’t be able to maintain her composure after being humiliated. Yet, some people’s resilience is astounding.
Qian Li raised her head, tears streaming down her beautiful face. She looked pitifully vulnerable. “Mo Mo, you must have misunderstood something. Tell me, let’s resolve this. I won’t blame you.”
Su Mo almost laughed at the feigned compassion. She finally understood why she’d lost in her past life; Qian Li’s acting skills were worthy of an award.
Su Mo’s face was cold; her voice was icy. “Even if I did misunderstand, I won’t save him. Give it up.”
Then, seeing Qian Li’s pale face, Su Mo said sarcastically and coldly, “Even if I could save him, I’m sorry, but facing your hypocrisy, I can’t bring myself to be noble.”
