Chapter 42: A Dual-Ability Zombie?
Its sinister eyes locked onto the two of them. The zombie’s face was pitch-black, images flashing through its mind as a bloodthirsty desire for slaughter consumed it.
With a powerful push, it charged. Its speed wasn’t the least bit hindered by its bulky frame; on the contrary, it carried a faint, oppressive aura.
Su Mo instinctively took a step back, her eyes cold. She shot a glance at Shen Shaojie, and with a silent, mutual understanding, they immediately split apart.
Seeing them separate, the zombie let out a furious roar, spun around, and charged straight for Su Mo.
“Holy crap! Are you fucking blind?” Su Mo’s eyes flew wide with indignation.
A soft chuckle seemed to echo in her ear just as the zombie, enraged by her words, lunged forward. Its muscles bulged, the veins on its arms standing out in a terrifying display. One hand formed a fist, while the other became like an eagle’s talon, its nails an inky black, slashing through the air with a powerful gust of wind.
Her pupils contracted. Su Mo quickly stepped back, ducking low and sliding under its arm. At the same time, she unleashed a bolt of lightning from her right hand, striking it squarely in the stomach.
The stench of burning flesh mixed with the foul smell of decay, instantly making the air unbearable. The crackle of electricity was piercing.
Perhaps feeling the pain, the zombie let out a sudden, pained howl. Filled with rage, it kicked straight at Su Mo’s chest. The powerful leg, like an iron pillar, came at her with thunderous force. Su Mo’s eyes sharpened. She was too close to dodge. Leaping back to create some distance, she crossed her arms to block the blow.
But the zombie’s full-force attack, combining raw power with its enhanced body, sent a jolt of numbing pain through Su Mo’s arms. The impact forced her back a step.
Steadying herself, she looked at the zombie opposite her, her expression changing. If she was merely suspicious about the strange aura of this psychic zombie before, now she was certain.
A strength attribute enhancement. In other words, this damn thing was a dual-ability zombie—or more precisely, a dual-ability zombie spirit.
The thought made Su Mo’s face twist, and she almost cursed out loud.
The zombie, seeing its attack had failed, snarled in a rage, its fangs bared, ready to charge again.
Just then, as the sun finally vanished from the sky, replaced by a blanket of dark clouds, the temperature plummeted. A lazy voice drifted through the air.
Over on the side, Shen Shaojie’s devilishly handsome face wore a languid expression. He raised an eyebrow playfully and drawled, “So it’s a dual-ability dead thing.”
He shook his head and sighed, “This world is so unfair. The ugly ones always seem to develop better, don’t they?”
Several dark lines appeared on Su Mo’s forehead. Her mouth twitched, and just as she was about to say something, the zombie, as if understanding it was being mocked, was instantly enraged. A vicious glint flashed in its green, eerie pupils.
It threw its head back and let out a furious roar, charging straight for Shen Shaojie. Its rampaging aura was so powerful that the nearby buildings began to crumble, the debris flying along with its charge.
“Watch out!” Seeing the pile of rubble flying toward Shen Shaojie like a volley of stones, Su Mo’s pupils contracted, and she instantly cried out in alarm.
As her voice fell, a thunderous “BOOM” echoed, and even the ground beneath their feet shook violently.
Su Mo stumbled, quickly regaining her footing. As she looked up, a figure stood before her.
He was wearing his coat, his all-black attire looking utterly mysterious in the night. His dark red eyes shone, fixed on her. Within those devilish pupils was a tenderness that made it seem as if she was his entire world. In that instant, Su Mo felt something flutter in her heart.
