Rebirth in the Apocalypse: My Little Space farm Chapter 43

Chapter 43: It Evolved Again?

After a moment, a devilish smile played on his lips. “Worried about me?” Shen Shaojie asked.

His gentle voice, laced with a hint of pleasure, tickled her ear. Though his face seemed to be smiling, his eyes were filled with a wild, predatory look. A sudden panic fluttered in her chest, and she quickly turned her head away. “Who’s worried about you?”

A blush spread across her delicate face, her long lashes fluttering like tiny fans. Seeing her shy demeanor, Shen Shaojie’s heart skipped a beat. He reached out and stroked her head, his voice soft. “You were obviously worried about me, but you won’t admit it. Such a proud little thing.”

As if he’d hit a nerve, Su Mo’s entire face turned a deeper shade of red, a pinkish hue even creeping up her neck. Seeing the teasing glint in his eyes, she retorted in a flustered rage, “Who’s proud? You and I have nothing to do with each other, why would I worry about you? You’re so full of yourself.”

The moment the words left her mouth, a chilling aura rose from behind her. Her body tensed. She saw Shen Shaojie’s eyes narrow, a dangerous glint flashing in their dark-red depths as his entire demeanor turned sinister. Her heart tightened, and she watched him warily.

After a long pause, Shen Shaojie suddenly chuckled. He looked at Su Mo, his thin lips curling into a smirk, his dark-red phoenix eyes filled with a profound meaning. “You just reminded me of something.”

His soft words carried a hint of premeditation. Before Su Mo could process their meaning, a figure suddenly loomed over her.

Her eyes flew wide. A cool sensation on her lips spread through her entire body, and for a moment, her mind went blank.

Shen Shaojie felt her stiffen. The soft touch of her lips sent a jolt through him, making his blood boil. He placed a hand on the back of her head and pressed his tongue between her lips. The sweet taste made him deepen the kiss, his entire being consumed by a ravenous intensity, leaving her no room to escape.

Just as he was savoring the taste of her, a sharp pain on his lip made him instinctively loosen his grip.

Shoving him away with all her might, Su Mo’s face was flushed with anger. She glared at him, but before she could unleash a torrent of curses, a finger gently pressed against her lips.

Shen Shaojie caressed her lips, which were now swollen and glistening, looking incredibly tempting. A storm brewed in his eyes as he spoke, his voice laced with a certain charm, “So, do we have a relationship now?”

His soft voice held a unique allure, and his gentle eyes looked as if they were about to overflow. For a second, Su Mo was lost.

Just then, a deafening “BOOM” shook the heavens, accompanied by a terrifying, enraged roar that echoed across the rooftop.

Startled, Su Mo instinctively looked toward the source of the sound.

Dust and sand swirled, and rubble tumbled.

Amidst the thick, gray smoke and the ear-splitting noise, the green-eyed zombie that had been buried under the debris suddenly burst out. Its body glowed, and its aura was as oppressive as a collapsing mountain, radiating an unstoppable ferocity. Its once green eyes had started to fade, now tinged with black, making its stare even more terrifying and sinister.

Shen Shaojie raised an eyebrow and turned around. He looked at the zombie—green irises, black pupils, its body now larger. A spark of curiosity flashed in his eyes. “Hmm, looks like it’s starting to evolve again?”

The rooftop remained silent in response. A look of horror crossed Su Mo’s face; she couldn’t fathom how this zombie was evolving so quickly.

She watched as the color of its pupils deepened, its murderous aura growing stronger.

There was no time for anything else. She raised her hand to unleash an ability, but a hand shot out and stopped her.

Grabbing her slender arm, Shen Shaojie saw her anxious and angry expression. He gently tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, his voice soft yet full of pride. “What’s there to be afraid of when I’m here?”

His gentle voice held a hint of exasperation, but his grip was firm. Seeing that the zombie was about to complete its evolution, Su Mo turned and glared at him, shouting, “Damn it, then go do something!”

“No rush. Let it finish evolving.” With that, Shen Shaojie turned his attention back to the zombie, ignoring her, but his hand held hers tightly, preventing her from moving. Su Mo was fuming.

The night was cool and windy, the sky filled with dark clouds, allowing only a sliver of moonlight to pierce through. The world was veiled in a layer of gauze, everything obscured.

Suddenly, a hoarse, beastly roar, like that of a wolf or a tiger, echoed through the darkness.

The zombie whipped its head around. With a powerful leap, it landed in front of them, the force of its landing making the entire building tremble. Its eyes glowed with a cyan light, its pupils filled with a crazed bloodlust.

That cyan glow was a clear sign—it was now an intermediate-level zombie spirit!

With a smile, Shen Shaojie stepped forward, letting go of Su Mo’s hand. He looked at the zombie opposite him, his posture elegant, his voice calm. His lazy tone held an air of absolute superiority as he casually asked, “How about we make this your graveyard?”

“ROAR—”

As if it understood him, the evolved zombie let out a low roar. Seeing his contemptuous expression, its body began to seethe with rage. It stomped its foot on the ground, leaving a deep imprint.

A black shadow shot through the air towards them, its cyan pupils blazing with fury, its aura ferocious. Su Mo’s pupils contracted, and she quickly took several steps back.

Seeing that the zombie was about to crash down on Shen Shaojie, who still showed no intention of moving, a look of panic flashed across her face.

In the next second, the zombie’s outstretched hand was about to touch him.

But then, with a soft squelch, the dark, long-nailed hand, which was just an inch away from Shen Shaojie, froze in place.

Su Mo watched in shock, her heart feeling like it was about to leap out of her chest. She had always known he was strong, but she never imagined he was this strong. She was completely stunned.

There were no flashy moves, no violent surge of energy, no swift teleportation. Just a single, casual swipe of his hand, yet it was so sharp it was terrifying.

In the quiet night sky, the scene seemed to freeze. Shen Shaojie’s eyes were calm and colorless, his five fingers buried deep in the zombie’s brain. The once ferocious zombie was instantly dead. Silence fell around them.

His fingers twitched slightly. A moment later, he pulled out a cyan-colored stone the size of an egg from its head and walked over to Su Mo.

Seeing her dazed expression, Shen Shaojie was about to pat her head but stopped when he noticed the filth covering his hand. He lowered it and asked softly, “Scared?”

Su Mo came back to her senses and looked up at him. He held out his hand, a cyan crystal core resting quietly in his palm. “For you.”

In that instant, her eyes welled up with tears. Her mind flashed back to her past life, to the seven years she had spent on the run for that man. She thought he loved her. She thought that if she just tried hard enough to be good to someone, she would surely win their heart. But in the end, all she got was abandonment.

But this man in front of her, from their first meeting to fighting alongside him now, he hadn’t said much, nor had he made any grand gestures, yet he would always give her the best of what he had. She suddenly wanted to laugh, but she also wanted to cry.

“Why are you crying?” Shen Shaojie asked, surprised to see a tear roll down her cheek. A deep emotion flashed in his eyes. He reached out to wipe it away, murmuring, “Is it because you feel like I’m too good to you?”

Feeling that they were too close, Su Mo turned her face away, her voice stubborn. “No.”

Seeing her awkwardness, Shen Shaojie dropped his hand and chuckled. “There you go again, playing coy. But I like it when you’re like this.”

Her face instantly burned. Feeling utterly embarrassed, Su Mo turned to yell at him, but just then, the ground beneath them began to shake violently.

Losing her balance, she stumbled and fell straight into Shen Shaojie.

Wrapping an arm around her slender waist, Shen Shaojie chuckled, teasing, “The old sayings are true. The body really is more honest than the mouth.”

Hearing his teasing voice, Su Mo shot him an angry glare and tried to push him away, but he held her tightly.

The shaking grew more intense. Parts of the building began to collapse, and cracks snaked across the ground beneath their feet.

Feeling the woman in his arms squirming, trying to break free, he looked at her with a helpless expression and tightened his grip. “Stay still. It’s collapsing.”

He was taking advantage of her and telling her to stay still? Su Mo was furious. She reached out and pinched his waist with all her might, but he didn’t even flinch. She was about to explode. “Let go! I can get down on my own.”

“Mm, at the speed of an ant, you probably could,” Shen Shaojie nodded, as if seriously considering it.

His eyes, however, were fixed on a spot to their left. Feeling her struggle as the surroundings crumbled, he tightened his arm, pulling her protectively into his embrace. His voice was gentle. “Be good. We’re going down.”

Su Mo was about to say something else, but a sudden gust of wind howled past her ears. In a blur, she found herself standing on an air conditioning unit on the fourth floor. A moment later, they dropped down another level. She clamped her mouth shut.

Looking up, she saw large chunks of debris falling from above. Her eyes widened in alarm. “To the left!”

Shen Shaojie reacted instantly, leaping in the direction she indicated. The moment they moved, a massive boulder crashed down where they had just been with a loud “BANG.”

From then on, Su Mo kept her eyes on the falling debris, acting as his guide.

“Right…”

“Right…”

“Left…”

“…” All the way down to the ground floor, they worked together in perfect sync and landed safely.

Su Mo immediately pushed him away. She saw that on the other side, the fight was still going on, but without the ability-using zombie, not many were left. She was about to go help—

But then, the entire building behind them suddenly tilted. Her pupils contracted, and she let out a desperate shout, “Brother, get out of there!”
