Chapter 10: The Assailant
Wen Youlian’s gaze remained on her phone screen as she followed Wen Shihe. Passing Mu Jiashu, she unexpectedly smiled, “Thank you today.”
Mu Jiashu, having moved away from Wen Shihe, quickly lowered his head, looking embarrassed as he fiddled with his pants, appearing shy around women: “N-no problem.”
Wen Youlian lost interest and pulled out some bills from her bag, tossing them at the girl, “Consider it compensation.”
Without looking back, she went downstairs.
Only after Wen Youlian disappeared into the night did Mu Jiashu look back, a slight sneer playing on his lips.
He quickly realized his lapse, suppressing the smile and asking the girl he’d left aside, “Are you hurt?”
She had wanted to express her gratitude but found his tone cold and distant. Although he’d saved her, he seemed unconcerned; her enthusiasm waned. She replied, “No.”
Mu Jiashu had only helped because he couldn’t stand by and watch someone die. Now that she was alive, that was enough. He didn’t want to humor her, bent down to pick up the money, and left with Wei Xun’s things.
He left the supplements in Grandma Li’s room and went downstairs with Wei Xun. The rain had stopped; a chill hung in the hospital lobby. Wei Xun zipped up his coat, sneaking a glance at Mu Jiashu.
A shrill scream suddenly broke the night’s calm from the entrance.
Wei Xun and Mu Jiashu looked in that direction. A middle-aged man wielding a cleaver charged into the hospital, his expression ferocious, possibly suffering from a mental illness.
A female doctor closest to him saw the man, screamed, and collapsed.
Fortunately, he wasn’t attacking indiscriminately; he seemed to be targeting someone. He ignored the woman on the floor, waving the cleaver, causing people to scatter.
To deal with him, you needed to disarm him, but it required skill to avoid injuring others. Wei Xun didn’t dodge but slowly approached, eyeing a nearby water bottle.
The madman wasn’t far from the doctor and was still dangerous. Once he moved away, Wei Xun would kick the bottle to distract him, then grab the knife…
Wei Xun’s plan was interrupted by Mu Jiashu, who suddenly rushed forward.
Wei Xun was stunned.
He watched his usually calm and quiet bodyguard charge at the man, grabbing his wrist to disarm him.
Wei Xun reacted, seeing them grapple. He rushed over, kicking the man’s wrist with precision.
The man, held by Mu Jiashu, couldn’t dodge. The cleaver flew away, landing near a passerby. Wei Xun wanted to help Mu Jiashu but was surprised: “Uncle Mu?”
Seeing Mu Jiashu could handle it, he rushed to help Mu Yanyue, “Uncle Mu, what are you doing here? You didn’t bring anyone; it’s too dangerous! I’m an idiot; luckily, that knife didn’t hit you.”
Mu Yanyue’s face was calm, “I’m fine, Xiaoxun. Are you hurt?”
He didn’t answer Wei Xun’s question about why he was there, and Wei Xun didn’t notice, “No, no, heh.”
Mu Yanyue said, “I saw the man charging at me. Thanks to your subordinate.”
Wei Xun glanced at Mu Jiashu, who had his back turned, twisting the man’s arm behind his back, his knee on the man’s spine, pinning him to the ground.
Wei Xun called Mu Jiashu; he didn’t respond, probably hadn’t heard. Hospital security finally arrived, so Wei Xun didn’t call again.
Mu Jiashu looked down at the hospital’s marble floor.
Wei Xun looked away, smiling, “It’s lucky; you’re fine. It’s not safe here; let’s go home…I’ll drive you?”
Mu Yanyue casually glanced at Mu Jiashu and looked away, “No need, my driver’s outside.”
Mu Jiashu subdued the man, who struggled violently. He used a hand strike to the neck, temporarily knocking him unconscious.
A security guard kicked the man’s head, cursing, “Damn madman…”
Mu Jiashu frowned and blocked the kick; instead of hitting the man’s head, the guard kicked his sleeve, leaving a dirty footprint.
Mu Jiashu glanced at him and brushed off the dirt.
He said nothing, but the guard felt guilty, “It wasn’t my fault. I was kicking the madman, and you got in the way.”
Mu Jiashu said, “What right do you have to kick him?”
Guard: “…Didn’t you hit him?”
“I was trying to subdue him to prevent him from hurting anyone. You useless idiots just stood around and didn’t even get a rope. Why did you hit him?”
Mu Jiashu didn’t give him a chance to speak, raising his lip, “I restrained him. Where were you when he was waving the knife? He didn’t attack indiscriminately, suggesting it wasn’t purely mental illness; there’s a reason. Do you not ask questions before hitting people?”
The guard stammered, realizing the “useless idiots” referred to him. He almost laughed, “Wow, kid, you’re tough…”
“He is tough, so what?”
Before the guard could finish, Wei Xun arrived, lifting Mu Jiashu and warning, “My men aren’t to be disciplined by others.”
The on-duty hospital director rushed over. A man with a knife attempting to injure people was a serious incident. Seeing Wei Xun, he immediately forgot about it.
He rushed over, shaking Wei Xun’s hand, “Young Master Wei, you stopped the incident! Are you hurt?”
Wei Xun said calmly, “Director Wu, don’t worry; it’s my subordinate’s credit. I didn’t do much. The hospital’s security needs improvement.”
Director Wu, relieved that Wei Xun was unharmed, said, “It’s our hospital’s fault. We’ll definitely improve.”
Wei Xun looked at Mu Jiashu, then at the director, “There’s always a reason. Investigate it, don’t resort to violence.”
Director: “Yes, yes, I’ve already called the police.”
Wei Xun nodded.
The guard was dumbfounded and didn’t dare speak after being glared at by the director.
Mu Jiashu had been watching Mu Yanyue. Hearing he wasn’t hurt, he was relieved.
After Mu Yanyue left, Wei Xun approached Mu Jiashu, who was no longer interested in anything else. After Wei Xun finished talking with the director, they left the hospital.
The night sky was deep blue, the stars gently twinkling.
Mu Jiashu opened the car door. Wei Xun didn’t move. Turning around, Mu Jiashu saw him standing there, thoughtfully looking at him.
Mu Jiashu said, “Third Young Master, is there a problem?”
Wei Xun said, “Why do you always surprise me?”
His expression was puzzled, as if genuinely pondering this.
Mu Jiashu said, “I’ve been thinking about something lately.”
Wei Xun said, “What?”
Mu Jiashu smiled, “I wonder why, since following Young Master Wei, I keep encountering so many incidents…”
Wei Xun was taken aback and laughed, shaking his head, “It’s all luck.”
He said nothing more, getting into the car, “Let’s go.”
