Chapter 13: Hero Saves the Beauty
Dealing with this kind of person, threatening to call the police was useless. As far as he knew, Li Zhiguo had been detained several times before, probably considering the detention center his second home.
If he thought even bigger, he could imagine the police officers at the entrance being his bodyguards, chatting with his former cellmates – a perfect scenario.
After serving his time, he’d still come looking for trouble, so the only way to solve the problem was to intimidate him with force.
After finishing with the old thug, Mu Jiashu washed the gash on his temple and began to clean up the mess. He, the young master, was very impatient with such tedious tasks, but the room was a disaster, and even if he was a scoundrel, he couldn’t leave it like that for his grandmother.
He patiently tidied up, revealing that the Shen family was truly impoverished. Li Zhiguo had almost dug three feet underground, and the things scattered everywhere were mostly old junk they couldn’t bear to throw away.
Mu Jiashu took some 502 glue, fixed the wheels of a broken toy car, and put it on the ground. He flicked the car’s rear, and it slid away.
He curved his eyes, a subtle smile on his face. But the next moment, his smile froze, his brows slightly furrowed as he stood up and walked over.
The car had knocked over the edge of a discarded newspaper, revealing a small black lacquered wooden box. Mu Jiashu bent down, picked it up, and opened it. Inside was a piece of ice-type purple jadeite bracelet, crystal clear, of excellent quality, and tending towards a purplish eggplant color.
Experts knew this was a rare color among purple jadeite, extremely difficult to find.
Mu Jiashu took the bracelet out, caressed it for a moment, and then slowly put it down. He had a sense of déjà vu when he saw the box, now confirming his thoughts. If nothing else, this should have originally been a Mu family heirloom.
Could there be a connection between the Shen family and the Mu family? Who had instructed Li Zhiguo to look for this bracelet?
… Was there a connection between his previous death and his rebirth in this life?
Countless questions overwhelmed him. The dim light from the old chandelier couldn’t illuminate the entire room. Dark corners seemed to conceal countless undercurrents. Mu Jiashu suddenly didn’t want to stay in the room anymore. He put away the strangely appearing wooden box, grabbed his coat, and strode out.
The temperature was pleasant. The night city was bustling, with colorful neon lights outshining the moon, which could only hide sadly in a corner of the sky. Vehicles flowed endlessly on the streets, forming streams of dazzling light, an ocean of brilliance, as if the whole world was shining.
Mu Jiashu rubbed his brow, feeling inexplicably irritated by the bright lights. He turned onto a less crowded street, but just a few steps later, he bumped into someone.
Or, it seemed more like the other party intentionally bumped into him. He stepped back slightly, subtly scanning his surroundings, finding at least five or six people, each dressed in flashy and gaudy attire, their faces twisted into leering, sickening smiles. Two of them carried iron bars.
Mu Jiashu retracted his gaze. Unable to determine if he knew them, he smiled and slurred his words, “Gentlemen, what’s up?”
The leader laughed, “Shen Shu, I heard you’re doing well lately. I didn’t believe it, but seeing your style, it’s certainly different. But no matter how well you’re doing, you shouldn’t forget your brothers. The fifty thousand yuan your sweetheart owes us…should be paid back, right?”
The words “sweetheart” made Mu Jiashu’s heart jump. He suspected that heaven felt Wei Xun giving him an extra five thousand yuan was disrupting the balance of his finances, hence sending various thugs to collect money and ensure he didn’t keep a single penny.
However, if he had obeyed, he would have died already.
Mu Jiashu sighed, guessing the person they were talking about was Li Qing. After hearing his stories and witnessing Li Zhiguo’s actions, he found this person intensely interesting.
Seeing his silence, a thug with colorful hair and a hairstyle like a feather duster spoke, “Don’t waste time with him.”
He said coldly, “Shen Shu, let me tell you, Li Qing can’t pay back the money, and he’s pissed off a few of us. He told us you’re doing well, and asked us to collect the money, so don’t resent us. You’re usually loyal, so we won’t make things difficult for you. Fifty thousand today, and you can go. If not, you and he will both suffer.”
Oh, so Shen Shu’s “sweetheart” wasn’t so caring…
In the month since his rebirth, Mu Jiashu had never seen him. Li Qing really treated Shen Shu as an idiot who always cleaned up his mess.
Mu Jiashu honestly replied, “I don’t have that much money.”
“Feather Duster” took an iron bar from his back, tapping it against his palm, grinning. “Not having it now is fine. Let’s chat indoors; maybe you’ll find it soon.”
Mu Jiashu tilted his head and smiled slightly. “Is that so?”
As he tilted his head, the streetlight shone on his face, highlighting his features. His eyes, glancing sideways, gleamed, his overall demeanor refined and elegant, making his usually delicate face appear somewhat unfamiliar.
The leader “tsk”-ed, “If you don’t have money, you can pay in another way.”
He reached out to touch Mu Jiashu’s face, smiling lecherously. “I’m being straightforward, bear with me. Honestly, Shen Shu, you have no skills, no courage, only this face is worth something…”
Mu Jiashu couldn’t help but laugh.
He shook his head, “My punches hurt, you should bear with it too.”
Smiling, he twisted the man’s wrist and punched him in the face before the man could touch him.
At the same time, he used his elbow to hit “Feather Duster,” knocking him back. He seized the iron bar, smashing it down.
“Uncooperative,” he said lightly.
Mu Jiashu’s fighting skills were honed years ago when he trained with Wei Xun and retired soldiers. Taking on six was not a problem, but after a whistle, two more men wielding iron bars rushed out of a nearby alley and attacked.
Mu Jiashu ducked under the incoming bars, kicking the first thug, sending him flying into his two companions.
A flash of silver, “Feather Duster” pulled out a fruit knife and stabbed at Mu Jiashu.
Mu Jiashu dodged, the knife grazing his chest. At the same time, he heard the heavy sound of an iron bar behind him, but he had no time to dodge. He braced himself to take the blow, intending to beat the bastard behind him until he didn’t even recognize his own father.
“Watch out!”
A strong force pulled him into an embrace. Turning, he saw Wei Xun’s clear profile.
Wei Xun’s usually composed and handsome face finally showed a hint of astonishment.
Wei Xun raised his arm, blocking the iron bar. He kicked “Feather Duster’s” wrist, sending the knife flying.
Wei Xun let go of Mu Jiashu, snatched the iron bar, and threw it at one of the thugs. Then, he elbowed the attacker, stunning him. He shook his hand and asked briefly, “Are you okay?”
As a bodyguard, he was saved by his client, which felt strangely awkward. Mu Jiashu coughed and touched his nose. “I’m fine… how did you get here?”
Wei Xun didn’t look at him. “Passing by.”
He really was passing by, but the coincidence was astounding.
Wei Xun had just been picked up from work by his family driver and had a disagreement with his parents at dinner. He didn’t want to stay home, planning to go back to the company, but then he saw a familiar figure through the car window.
“Stop the car!” Wei Xun urged.
The young master had just had a huge argument with his father in front of everyone. The driver didn’t dare say a word and immediately stopped the car. Wei Xun saw Mu Jiashu in trouble, and without a word, he opened the door and ran off.
He had taken a blow, his forearm aching. He was in a worse mood and didn’t know why he had been so panicked and worried, and he didn’t dare look directly at Shen Shu’s eyes, which resembled someone else’s.
