Reborn as My Childhood Friend’s Bodyguard chapter 14

Chapter 14: Clouds of Suspicion

Throwing the seized iron bar heavily to the ground, Wei Xun rolled up his sleeves and glared at the thugs, who were stunned by his appearance. “Want a fight? Come on! Damn it, you dare pull a knife on me!”

Young Master! We really didn’t pull a knife on you, okay? You’re the one who charged forward, okay?

Probably everyone was thinking these two sentences, but no one dared to say them aloud.

Wei Xun thought about how close the knife had come to Mu Jiashu’s chest; just a little slower and it would have pierced him. He was still frightened. Grabbing the young man who was still lying on the ground, unable to get up, he punched him in the face. “You deserved that!”

The driver, arriving shortly after, saw a large bruise on Wei Xun’s forearm and his face turned pale. “Third Young Master, Third Young Master, are you alright?”

Wei Xun remained silent, his face grim, seeming ready for another round.

At that moment, a hand grabbed his wrist. The fair fingers, contrasting against the wheat-colored skin, looked surprisingly pleasing in this chaotic scene.

Mu Jiashu said calmly, “Take care of your injury first.”

Perhaps because he said it so naturally, Wei Xun didn’t react much, obediently dropping his fist and looking at the bruise on his arm.

“I’m fine,” he said.

Mu Jiashu nodded, while the driver looked at him in surprise.

Wei Xun looked at the thugs on the ground, his face cold. “Who owns this area?”

The driver quickly replied, “Tang Gezi.”

Wei Xun said, “Tell him to get over here!”

Mu Jiashu knew Tang Gezi, the local boss in this area, quite young but influential. However, he wouldn’t dare act tough in front of Wei Xun.

Mu Jiashu had an idea, stopping Wei Xun. “Third… Third Young Master, no need to call Tang Gezi.”

Wei Xun frowned, flexing his wrist. “Why? Weren’t they bullying you?”

Neither before nor after his rebirth, Mu Jiashu didn’t think the word “bullying” applied to him. But he realized a serious problem: both before and after his rebirth, Wei Xun thought he was easily bullied.

Mu Jiashu smiled, “No. Actually—a friend of mine owed them money. Since he didn’t repay, their anger is understandable. It was indeed our fault. I’m grateful for your help, Young Master Wei, but let’s just forget about it.”

Wei Xun looked at him, a sudden chill running down his spine. He felt that the bright, clear smile hid a cunning mind.

“As you wish.”

Mu Jiashu nodded, thanking him again. He walked up to the thug who had tried to touch his face, pulled him up, and brushed off the dirt.

Even without Wei Xun, Mu Jiashu had already beaten them up pretty badly. Seeing Mu Jiashu’s hand, the thug trembled but heard Mu Jiashu politely say, “Brother Sun, Li Qing’s debt is his fault, and I apologize on his behalf. But I can’t afford the money, so go ask him.”

Mu Jiashu’s words sounded like he had a good relationship with Li Qing, but actually distanced himself, showing no intention of helping. The thug pondered his words, surprised. “Did you two have a falling out?”

“Nothing like that,” Mu Jiashu smiled, “Brother Sun, goodbye.”

They had walked several steps when the thug reacted, shouting, “Shen Shu, who were you calling? My name is Huo Da, not Sun!”

Wei Xun glanced back, and the thug immediately shrank back, falling silent.

Mu Jiashu had a sudden realization.

Oh, he hadn’t remembered the man’s name yet; he just called him “Sun” because he looked like a monkey.

They left the scene. Wei Xun’s driver looked worriedly at his arm. “Third Young Master, should we go to the hospital?”

Wei Xun flexed his wrist, feeling it wasn’t too serious. “No need, I’ll just put on some medicine. Old Zheng, go home and check on your child.”

Wei Xun remembered the driver saying his son had a fever that afternoon. Since the driver’s home was close to the company, he had planned to have Old Zheng take him to the company and then go home, but after this incident, he had no mood to go to the company and look at those files, so he let him go home early.

The driver was worried about leaving the young master alone, hesitating. “Third Young Master, the streets aren’t safe, maybe I should…”

Wei Xun casually put his hand on Mu Jiashu’s shoulder and pushed him forward. “He’s here. He’s also a company bodyguard, let him take me home.”

Mu Jiashu had seen his brother take a hit and was also worried. Hearing Wei Xun, he said, “Young Master Wei is right, Brother Zheng, let me take you.”

Wei Xun looked at him.

After Old Zheng left, Mu Jiashu opened the car door for Wei Xun and got in.

Wei Xun watched him fasten his seatbelt, then said abruptly, “You always call me Young Master Wei. Why did you call me ‘Third Young Master’ when you didn’t want me to call Tang Gezi?”

That’s because he almost blurted out “Third Brother” in a moment of urgency.

Mu Jiashu reacted quickly, calmly replying, “I heard Brother Zheng call you Third Young Master, so I followed suit.”

Wei Xun didn’t say whether he believed him or not, simply humming.

Mu Jiashu didn’t bother to guess his expression. Children from families like theirs mastered the art of concealing their emotions, even someone as straightforward as Wei Xun.

Wei Xun had changed to an SUV. Mu Jiashu started the car, driving towards Wei Xun’s house, but noticed two small plush toys hanging on the front of the car. He paused.

They were the popular “facemoji” toys Wei Xun had made for himself and Mu Jiashu, childish and cute.

Mu Jiashu didn’t share his strong girly heart, but seeing Wei Xun enjoy it, he had appreciated his art and remembered these toys, but didn’t know when he made them into plushies.

The two dolls were hanging close together, carefully wrapped, looking brand new, suggesting they hadn’t been there long.

He turned his gaze away from the dolls, focusing on the road. Wei Xun suddenly said, “I heard you’ve fought with these guys before?”

“Ah.”

The thugs had mentioned it. Mu Jiashu smiled, readily admitting it. Wei Xun’s people must have investigated this before hiring him, but only mentioned it today. “Today… thank you for saving me, Young Master Wei.”

Wei Xun was surprised by his attitude. Looking at the neatly dressed young man, then recalling his disheveled appearance that night, he felt a little uneasy. “Why before? Was it because of Li Qing again?”

It was—Shen Shu did everything to raise money for Li Qing: he dodged debts, robbed people’s pockets, gambled…until he was beaten up and then he became Mu Jiashu.

Mu Jiashu hesitated, still unwilling to talk much, humming in response.

Wei Xun smiled faintly. “You’re so loyal, he’s your friend?”

Childhood playmates. Mu Jiashu knew what Wei Xun was thinking, but it wasn’t entirely wrong; Shen Shu had liked Li Qing, but he couldn’t recall anything else.

Mu Jiashu nodded vaguely. “I guess so.”

His appearance easily conveyed embarrassment, and since it was private, Wei Xun didn’t press further. They drove to the Wei family in silence.

The car drove smoothly into the compound. With Wei Xun present, the guards readily allowed them in, and Mu Jiashu entered this community where he had lived for over twenty years for the first time since his rebirth.

It was a familiar place, but with a different identity, the feeling wasn’t the same.

In the quiet night, a breeze blew through the window, illuminating the lights of countless homes in the rows of buildings. Mu Jiashu felt a strange mixture of emotions, but his body instinctively steered the car skillfully.

Straight, left turn, uphill… a road he had traveled countless times, with the person who had been by his side since childhood. He felt a moment of confusion, a dreamy sensation growing stronger.

It was only when he saw Wei Xun’s house that Mu Jiashu snapped out of it, stopping the car, “We’re here.”

His emotions were too complex to notice Wei Xun’s intense gaze, his eyes filled with disbelief at that moment.

Or perhaps, true disbelief.

This community was government-built, housing important figures, guarded by security personnel, making it impossible for outsiders to enter. He had investigated Shen Shu and knew it was his first time entering tonight.

But just now… his driving skills, his familiar expression, and the subtle nostalgia and daze… what the hell was going on?!
