Reborn as My Childhood Friend’s Bodyguard chapter 5

Chapter 5: Car Accident

When Wei Xun quickly finished showering, changing clothes, and got into the passenger seat, it was precisely 8:30, not a minute more or less.

Mu Jiashu’s expression was calm. He nodded slightly to Wei Xun and then started the car. The well-made sedan silently drove down the mountain road, while Wei Xun showed an indescribable expression.

He looked at Mu Jiashu and finally couldn’t help but say, “You didn’t open the door for me.”

“Huh?” Mu Jiashu hadn’t considered this at all and looked at him in surprise.

At that moment, Wei Xun could almost hear the unspoken words in the other’s eyes—”How old are you? Can’t you even open a car door yourself?” “Open the door? Why should I open the door for you?”

Perhaps his questioning was too straightforward. Wei Xun forgot to get angry at this ill-mannered bodyguard and instead felt inexplicably guilty, as if he had made an unreasonable request.

Fortunately, Mu Jiashu quickly realized his position and apologized, “I’m sorry, Young Master Wei, I will pay attention next time.”

Without futile excuses, his attitude of immediate correction—putting aside other things—Wei Xun actually liked his character and nodded.

Actually, at his status, he couldn’t just talk to anyone. After Mu Jiashu’s… absence, he had even less mood to chat with strangers. But there was something inexplicably familiar about Mu Jiashu that made Wei Xun want to talk more.

“How old are you?” he asked casually, leaning against the passenger seat.

Mu Jiashu glanced at him and stated Mu Jiashu’s age: “Twenty.”

Four years younger than himself. Wei Xun was somewhat surprised. He initially thought Mu Jiashu looked young, assuming it was just his face, but he didn’t expect him to be still in college age: “Why are you doing this at such a young age?”

Mu Jiashu: “…”

That question…was quite awkward.

He wasn’t usually one to overthink, but a while ago—or rather, more than a year ago for Wei Xun—when they were at a bar, he clearly remembered their Young Master Wei saying the exact same words to a heavily made-up hostess, without changing his tone at all.

At the time, he had teased him—”Young Master Wei is so compassionate, why not take her home?”

Wei Xun seemed to realize his words had a double meaning. A trace of sadness flashed in his eyes, and he added, “I mean, why didn’t you continue your studies?”

“Poor family.”

The light tone showed no unnaturalness… Wei Xun smiled—he himself didn’t realize it was the first smile he’d shown since Mu Jiashu’s death—and casually said, “It’s not bad for men to go out and experience things early. When I was young, I countless times wished my family was poor enough that they couldn’t afford my tuition. Before every school term, I’d lie on the floor and throw a tantrum, refusing to go to school. My father threatened to kick me to death several times. Back then, Xiaoshu…”

His voice trailed off.

Mu Jiashu opened his mouth, looked at Wei Xun, but didn’t say anything. The atmosphere in the car became somewhat heavy.

The words “Xiaoshu” carried all the sweetness and pain of his more than twenty years. Even after a year, they still easily caused him to lose control. Wei Xun’s smile froze on his face, leaving only bitterness.

The two were silent, each lost in their own thoughts. In the breezy morning, the soft morning light filtered through the window, gently passing over Wei Xun’s body and falling on Mu Jiashu’s cheek. In the silence of the car, many unspoken emotions gradually spread, coming from nowhere and going nowhere.

“Screech—”

At that moment, a loud screech of brakes brought Wei Xun and Mu Jiashu back to reality.

A sports car that had been driving alongside them suddenly swerved sharply and cut in front of Wei Xun’s car. Mu Jiashu didn’t know what the driver was doing. In an emergency, he immediately slammed on the brakes and subconsciously turned the steering wheel to the right.

The car veered to the right, and the driver’s side “bang” crashed into a tree beside the road, accompanied by a grinding sound that made one’s teeth ache. It almost caused both of them to experience ringing in their ears.

The car window shattered, and broken glass flew out. Wei Xun, quick as a flash, shielded Mu Jiashu, pressing his head into his chest, preventing Mu Jiashu from becoming blind just days after becoming a normal person again.

Fortunately, Mu Jiashu reacted quickly, and both people in the car were trained. Except for some cuts from the glass shards, they had no other injuries, which was fortunate.

Wei Xun let go of Mu Jiashu, looked at him, and his expression was quite complex—in most car accidents, the passenger seat is the most dangerous because, in that split second, the driver will often instinctively protect themselves by turning the steering wheel to the left, which inevitably makes the passenger seat the impact point, leading to injuries.

But Mu Jiashu instinctively chose to protect him…

Wei Xun looked at this beautiful young man with a few traces of childishness on his face, and suddenly had an idea—this kid said he didn’t study much, could it be…he can’t tell left from right?

Just as he was thinking, he felt a pain in his arm wound. Wei Xun came to his senses. Mu Jiashu was mercilessly wrapping a white bandage around his arm wound, apparently trying to stop the bleeding. Wei Xun was stunned: “How did you know I had bandages in the car?”

“Young Master Wei, you daydreamed long enough for me to see it and get it out.” Mu Jiashu replied quickly.

His words were a bit blunt, but it inexplicably improved Wei Xun’s bad mood after the accident. He patted Mu Jiashu’s shoulder: “Thanks. Sit still, and treat your own wounds first.”

After saying that, he got out of the car and walked towards the offending white sports car, intending to see who was bored enough to block his way.

Mu Jiashu had braked just in time; the other car hadn’t even been touched, yet the door was tightly closed, and the person inside hadn’t come out, whether alive or dead. Wei Xun went over to take a look and found that the car window glass was special. You couldn’t see inside from the outside, but it shouldn’t obstruct the view of the person inside.

Damn it! Who are you trying to scare?!

Wei Xun walked over, knocked hard on the car window several times, and coldly said, “Playing dead? Get out!”

Mu Jiashu sat alone in the car, watching his back, unconsciously twisting his fingers. Of course, it wasn’t a good place to smoke, and besides, he couldn’t afford good cigarettes. He hesitated for less than a second, and familiarly pulled out half a pack of cigarettes from a bag in front of Wei Xun’s car, took one out, and put it in his mouth to get a quick fix.

Wei Xun hadn’t been without cigarettes for a long time, but due to his health in the past, he had never touched them himself. But the original owner of this body seemed very interested. Influenced by him, Mu Jiashu would occasionally want to smoke one to refresh himself.

Wei Xun told him to stay here, and he obediently stayed put, showing no intention of getting out of the car to make a show.

They’d encountered many accidents together since childhood. Every time, Mu Jiashu comfortably waited while Wei Xun went to handle it. Mu Jiashu firmly believed that Wei Xun could handle anything.

However, the next moment, Mu Jiashu’s eyes widened, and he involuntarily straightened up to look outside—the person who got out of the car was his younger brother, Mu Haochang!

Mu Haochang calmly got out of the car, as if he hadn’t seen Wei Xun standing in front of him. Instead, he looked towards the small car still stuck on the side of the road. His gaze met Mu Jiashu’s through the car window, and then he strode towards them.

The broken car window was a bit drafty, but Mu Jiashu didn’t move.

As expected, Mu Haochang was pulled back by Wei Xun and pressed against the car: “Mu Haochang, are you crazy?”

Although Mu Haochang was Mu Jiashu’s full biological brother, after their parents divorced, he followed his mother to the United States. He was only brought back to China after his mother passed away, when he was thirteen. Mu Jiashu was fifteen. The brothers didn’t grow up together, so their relationship wasn’t very close.

Wei Xun and Mu Jiashu were childhood friends, but his relationship with Mu Haochang wasn’t so close. Moreover, with Wei Sanshao’s temper, he dared to fight anyone if provoked, so Mu Haochang was clearly asking for a beating.

Mu Haochang seemed to only now realize Wei Xun’s presence, waking up as from a dream. A smile appeared on his face, seeming gentle and refined, not at all like someone who had just done such a crazy thing: “Third Brother, don’t be angry. I got excited while driving and didn’t notice it was Third Brother’s car. I did wrong; I’ll definitely compensate for your losses.”
