Chapter 11: I Thought You Were Just Playing Around with That Kid!
Suburbs, an abandoned factory.
A man in a black suit sat in the shadows of a corner.
His long legs were crossed, his posture languid. A cigarette was pinched between his fingertips, slowly puffing out smoke.
On the open ground opposite him knelt a man, hogtied and covered in blood.
“Shen Yanzhou! I am your Fourth Cousin! I am the Old Master’s grandson! If… if you treat me like this, the Old Master won’t let you off!”
Shen Yanhui held onto his last breath, shouting with false bravado.
Shen Yanzhou took a drag of his cigarette. The bright red ember flickered, casting a demonic and wicked glow upon his handsome, sharp-featured face.
” The Old Master?” He chuckled. “Grandfather hates fratricide and internal family fighting the most.”
“If I tell him what you’ve done, do you think he will let you off?”
The corner of Shen Yanhui’s mouth twitched. “Even so, you can’t use private lynching on me! I want to see the Old Master!”
Shen Yanzhou shook his head slightly. “Truly stupid. Grandfather is an old fox; do you think he would openly oppose me to save a piece of trash like you?”
He exhaled a thin mist of smoke. “So, there is no need to disturb him.”
Shen Yanhui fell silent.
His head slowly drooped, and his whole body began to tremble uncontrollably.
“Fourth Cousin, you know that the Master who was with you has already been killed by a sniper, right?” Shen Yanzhou changed the subject, his voice level.
His tone was as casual as if discussing the weather, not a human life.
Shen Yanhui, still on the ground, shook even more violently.
He knew in his heart that the one who fired the shot from the shadows to kill the Master must have been their Young Uncle, Shen Jun!
In fact, that Master was originally Shen Jun’s man.
The conspiracy to capture someone with a Pure Yin fate to refine into a ghost was also Shen Jun’s idea.
And their goal in refining the ghost was to torture Shen Yanzhou to death!
Inside the wealthy Shen family of the Imperial City, the infighting was a life-and-death struggle.
Old Master Shen originally had four sons.
Twenty-two years ago, the Old Master’s most valued second son and his family were traveling out of town when they got into a car accident and fell off a cliff.
The son and daughter-in-law died on the spot.
The three-year-old Shen Yanzhou went missing.
Although Old Master Shen searched extensively, he never found his lost fifth grandson.
Since the area was a mountain forest, the police analyzed that he might have been dragged away by wild wolves.
The matter could only be left at that.
Who could have imagined that four years ago, Shen Yanzhou would suddenly appear and acknowledge his ancestors?
After confirming his identity, the Old Master was overjoyed.
But following that, the sky changed over the Shen family.
It was exposed that the Eldest Uncle was suspected of intentional injury causing death many years ago. While the Eldest Uncle’s family went out to hide from the scandal, their private jet accidentally crashed, and none of the family of five survived.
Immediately after, the Third Uncle’s poaching of endangered wild animals was exposed. Because the circumstances were particularly serious, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Shen family was a top-tier wealthy family in the Imperial City.
The massive changes in the Shen family undoubtedly brought turmoil to the upper-class circle.
Rumors circulated that the incidents with the Eldest and Third Masters were deliberately orchestrated by an expert. Otherwise, how could old cases from years ago be dug up simultaneously, given the Shen family’s power?
Only a few families with close ties to the Shens knew the inside story.
All these things were planned and manipulated by Shen Yanzhou single-handedly.
Following that, Shen Yanzhou transformed. The “wild son” who had returned home for less than half a year steadily took the seat of the President of the Shen Group.
Because they knew how formidable Shen Yanzhou was, the other branches of the family dared not voice any criticism.
After that, the Shen family settled down.
Everything seemed to return to the right track.
The Shen’s Longsheng Group, steered by Shen Yanzhou, grew stronger by the day.
The Shen family had been flourishing with members, but now, apart from Shen Yanzhou, only one son and one grandson remained.
Shen Jun, the youngest son who originally had the highest hope of taking over, had to swallow his anger.
And Shen Yanhui, the only son of the third branch, constantly thought of avenging his imprisoned father.
Thus, the uncle and nephew, who were originally at odds, became allies due to a common enemy.
They had used some methods in the dark, but none could topple Shen Yanzhou.
Let alone topple him, they couldn’t even cause a scratch.
Until Shen Jun was introduced to a Master.
When he implicitly asked the Master how to kill someone without a trace, the Master gave him a trick.
Refine a ghost servant and command it to kill.
Foolproof.
So Shen Jun cleverly introduced Shen Yanhui to the Master and let him in on the plan.
Eager for revenge, Shen Yanhui ordered his subordinates to look for a candidate.
That was how the subsequent events unfolded.
Seeing that the Master had been sniped halfway, Shen Yanhui guessed immediately that it must have been done by Young Uncle Shen Jun.
Because the Master knew too many of Shen Jun’s secrets; if he fell into Shen Yanzhou’s hands, he would confess everything within minutes.
So, he struck first.
This was also a warning from the Young Uncle to himself: if he bit indiscriminately, he might also get a bullet.
“Yanzhou! I was wrong!” Shen Yanhui knew that right now, only by begging Shen Yanzhou for mercy could he find a way to survive.
He put on an attitude of sincere repentance.
“I thought you were just playing around with that kid; I didn’t know you were serious about him!”
“If I knew he was your person, I definitely wouldn’t have targeted him! Yanzhou, believe me!”
Looking at Shen Yanhui’s face, swollen like a pig’s head, Shen Yanzhou’s eyes grew colder.
Thinking of how he laid hands on Lin Yuan a few hours ago—that body so weak, vomiting blood all over the floor—a tyrannical aura rose around Shen Yanzhou.
In the afternoon, while processing documents in the office, he received a call from a bodyguard.
Anxious and ashamed, the bodyguard told him that Young Master Lin had run away again.
Shen Yanzhou was angry.
He immediately sent people to check the surveillance video along the road.
When he saw Lin Yuan being taken into a car by Shen Yanhui under the overpass, he felt sick.
He immediately led his men to chase the route shown on the monitor.
Shen Yanhui’s car drove into the suburbs, entering a blind spot for surveillance.
Shen Yanzhou immediately ordered people to track his phone location and the license plate.
Finally, at nightfall, they locked onto Shen Yanhui’s exact location.
Only then did Shen Yanzhou rescue Lin Yuan from the basement.
Even now, he was terrified in hindsight. If he had arrived half an hour later, he probably would never have seen a living Lin Yuan again.
At this thought, Shen Yanzhou ruthlessly stubbed out the cigarette in his fingertips.
He stood up and walked slowly to Shen Yanhui.
He looked down coldly at the person on the ground.
“I believe Fourth Cousin’s words. I heard from Lin Yuan that you captured him to refine a ghost.”
“I want to ask, why did Fourth Cousin suddenly get interested in metaphysics? You’re refining a ghost… for what purpose?”
As he spoke, he lowered his head slightly. In his dark, deep peach-blossom eyes, the light flickered uncertainly, making one feel cold just by looking.
Shen Yanhui’s body trembled uncontrollably.
“Uh, the Master said… refining ghosts can, can… prolong life!”
“Prolong life?” Shen Yanzhou’s lips curled into a cold sneer. “Very good.”
What a brain-dead answer.
Shen Yanzhou was incredibly sharp.
He knew that the fact Shen Yanhui dared to touch Lin Yuan proved he was disregarding the consequences.
He no longer cared what kind of retaliation he would face once Shen Yanzhou found out.
That could only mean one thing.
Shen Yanhui was fully confident that he could eliminate Shen Yanzhou before he could investigate and take revenge.
So Shen Yanzhou strongly suspected that they were refining the ghost to use against him.
“Fourth Cousin, if you don’t want to tell the truth, I don’t mind giving you a hand.” Shen Yanzhou’s tone was as calm as ever.
But everyone around could sense that beneath this calm lay the violent rage of a coming storm.
