Chapter 42: Every Word Lu Huaiyuan Said Felt Like a Death Sentence!
Lu Huaiyuan stared at Shen Yanzhou, his eyes filled with disbelief.
“Didn’t I tell you not to give him a hard time? He just got out of the hospital! How… how could you bring yourself to do this to him?”
Shen Yanzhou turned away, appearing slightly irritable. “Fine, don’t talk about anything else for now. Just get his fever down!”
Lu Huaiyuan felt a surge of anger.
He had spent three days of hard work and effort to finally nurse the young master back to health. Yet, after only a dozen hours in Shen Yanzhou’s hands, the man had broken him again!
However, there wasn’t much he could do about Shen Yanzhou.
He knew Shen Yanzhou’s temperament well—once he set his mind to something, no one could persuade him otherwise.
Besides, speaking strictly, this was ultimately a private matter between a couple.
Lu Huaiyuan let out a long, deep sigh.
He used his stethoscope to listen to the patient’s breathing.
“His lungs are fine; it’s not a relapse of the infection. He’s likely just too weak, and the… exertion caused the fever.”
As he spoke, he shot Shen Yanzhou a cold, sharp glare.
“If the oral medication doesn’t work, I’ll give him an antipyretic injection.”
Shen Yanzhou nodded.
Remembering something, he asked, “Where do you inject it?”
Lu Huaiyuan replied, “The arm.”
Shen Yanzhou breathed a small sigh of relief.
Lu Huaiyuan opened his medical bag and took out alcohol for disinfection, cotton swabs, and other supplies.
He disinfected Lin Yuan’s arm and then produced a syringe.
Shen Yanzhou immediately urged him, “Huaiyuan, be gentle!”
Lu Huaiyuan looked up and glanced at him. “Oh, now you’re worried about him feeling pain?”
Shen Yanzhou: “…”
He was speechless!
He pursed his lips and stopped talking.
He felt as though every word Lu Huaiyuan said tonight was a sentence being passed upon him!
“This medication can be a bit painful. Hold him steady,” Lu Huaiyuan instructed.
Shen Yanzhou quickly climbed onto the other side of the bed and gathered Lin Yuan into his arms.
When the needle pierced the fair skin and the liquid was slowly pushed in, Lin Yuan’s brow furrowed tightly in his semi-conscious state.
“It hurts…” he let out a soft cry.
“Don’t be afraid, Xiao Yuan. It’ll be over in a second. Don’t be afraid,” Shen Yanzhou whispered, gently pressing down on his arm and shoulder.
His tone was as soft and doting as if he were coaxing a small baby.
But his heart was already tied in knots.
Looking at him, Lu Huaiyuan felt like asking, ‘Why didn’t you think of this earlier?’ but he managed to hold it back.
“Done.” He withdrew the needle and stood up.
“Feed him things that are easy to digest for the next few days. Make sure he drinks plenty of water and doesn’t catch a cold. Furthermore…”
He adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses and looked at Shen Yanzhou.
“It’s best if you don’t touch him. Let him rest properly!”
Shen Yanzhou lowered his head.
“Mm.”
Lu Huaiyuan remembered something else and added, “He has a weak constitution. He could take a course of Chinese medicine to nourish his body.”
Shen Yanzhou nodded. “Understood.”
Ten minutes later, Lin Yuan’s temperature began to drop.
Lu Huaiyuan packed his things. “I’ll head out then. If there are any problems, call me anytime.”
“Thank you for the trouble!”
Shen Yanzhou walked him to the door. Lu Huaiyuan paused slightly.
He gently patted Shen Yanzhou’s shoulder. “Loving someone is like raising a flower. If you keep going on like this, by the time the branches snap and the petals fall, it’ll be too late for regrets!”
Shen Yanzhou pursed his lips and gave a nod.
Lu Huaiyuan said no more and went downstairs to leave.
Shen Yanzhou walked back to the large bed and sat on the sofa opposite it, staring at the person on the bed.
He seemed more comfortable now; his small face was no longer crumpled in pain.
However, his lips were still a bit pale and dry.
Shen Yanzhou sighed softly.
By now, the sky was starting to brighten.
He took out his phone, walked to the outer room, and called Yue Ping.
“I won’t be coming into the company today. Handle the arrangements as you see fit.”
Yue Ping reminded him, “President Shen, you have an appointment with President Li of DeWork this morning…”
Shen Yanzhou: “Cancel it. Lin Yuan has a fever; I need to stay home and accompany him.”
Yue Ping: “…”
He had been wondering what kind of force majeure would make his boss cancel the first round of negotiations for a ten-billion-dollar project.
It turned out the young madam was indisposed!
“Very well, President Shen. I will contact President Li’s assistant.”
“Does Mr. Lin need anything else?”
Shen Yanzhou thought for a moment. “Which is the best Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital in the Imperial Capital?”
Yue Ping: “The one with the best reputation for TCM would be Jishi Hall.”
Shen Yanzhou: “Mm. Invite their best doctor to the villa.”
Yue Ping nodded. “Understood. I’ll contact them immediately and report back as soon as it’s settled!”
He hung up the phone.
Without a moment’s delay, Yue Ping called President Li’s assistant at the DeWork Group’s China office.
He tactfully informed him that for certain reasons, today’s meeting was canceled.
“Assistant Yue, I’m afraid this is inappropriate, isn’t it?” The assistant on the other end looked displeased.
“Our President Li cleared his entire schedule for today’s meeting!”
Yue Ping remained neither humble nor arrogant as he offered a polite apology. “I am truly sorry. President Shen really does have a very important matter to attend to. We will reschedule for another day.”
The assistant had no choice but to hang up and immediately report back to his boss.
When CEO Li Bin heard the news, his face instantly darkened.
He pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
“President Shen, that great nephew of yours actually dared to stand me up!”
In his office, Shen Juan frowned slightly upon hearing this.
“What happened?” Shen Juan asked.
Li Bin was somewhat annoyed. “We had a meeting scheduled for today, but his assistant just sent word that he has something very important and can’t come!”
Shen Juan’s sinister, eagle-like eyes narrowed slightly.
“Abin, could there have been a loophole in our plan that he saw through?”
Li Bin waved his hand. “Impossible! I trust my people! I don’t know what that brat Shen Yanzhou is up to, but he suddenly refused to show his face!”
Shen Juan pursed his lips. “Don’t be impatient. I’ll send someone to investigate the situation.”
After hanging up, Shen Juan lit a cigarette.
He took two deep drags.
Could the boy have seen through the elaborate trap he had set for Shen Yanzhou?
That didn’t make sense.
Li Bin was a wily old fox; he was determined to win this and would have arranged everything meticulously.
The spies he had planted around Shen Yanzhou hadn’t reported anything unusual either.
Perhaps Shen Yanzhou really did have something he couldn’t get away from?
He immediately dialed a number and gave instructions.
It wasn’t until noon that his spy sent back news.
They said someone in Shen Yanzhou’s house was sick, so he didn’t come to the company today.
Shen Juan was a bit confused.
Aside from Old Master Shen, did Shen Yanzhou have any other family?
The old man was definitely fine; he had called to pay his respects this morning.
Could it be…
He suddenly thought of someone.
That beautiful youth Shen Yanzhou had taken back to keep as a pet that night—Lin Yuan.
Shen Juan frowned.
Last time, he had used that incident to complain to the old man, saying Shen Yanzhou had brought home an indecent man to mess around with.
But it had no effect at all.
Later, Shen Yanhui had kidnapped Lin Yuan, but instead of refining him into a ghost, he had been caught red-handed by Shen Yanzhou.
Lin Yuan had been taken back by Shen Yanzhou again.
He had thought Shen Yanzhou was just looking for a bit of novelty, just playing around.
But looking at it now, he was willing to cast aside a ten-billion-dollar business deal for that Lin Yuan. It seemed that boy had truly caught his eye!
Shen Juan adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses. Behind the thin lenses, a trace of ruthlessness appeared in his sharp eyes.
Very well.
Shen Yanzhou, that man who seemed as invulnerable as if he were made of copper and iron, finally had a weakness!
Should he seize this weakness and make him suffer a little?
To avenge that 8% of shares?!
