Chapter 51: Disdain
The air pressure in the already small snake den suddenly dropped.
It was him again.
Qi Yeâs eyes darkened.
“The situation has changed. We need to go explore another area first.”
As he spoke, he walked toward Chi Wan, his voice softening a bit.
“Don’t run around with dubious people. Itâs very dangerous to encounter Polluted Entities.”
Hearing his words, Chi Che showed no anger. He simply took another step forward to stand side-by-side with Chi Wan again.
He looked down at her, his eyes filled with a possessiveness that only a fellow male could recognize.
“She isn’t running around. She is currently a bodyguard Iâve hired; sheâs protecting me.”
Qi Ye also looked at Chi Wan: “Youâre protecting him?”
Chi Wan rubbed the bridge of her nose, unable to say a single word.
The air fell into a brief silence.
Qi Yeâs voice rang out again:
“Iâll pay triple the breach of contract fee. Fire him.”
As he spoke, his brows lifted slightly as he looked at Chi Che.
“How much is the commission?”
This was the first time the two of them had faced each other head-on.
Naturally cold green eyes clashed with deep, inscrutable black eyes. The air pressure dropped even further.
To break the stalemate, Chi Wan grabbed Qi Yeâs sleeve and started walking out.
His nearly two-meter-tall frame was moved by her gentle tug, almost pressing against her.
The coldness in his heart vanished instantly because of her gesture.
Qi Ye followed closely, but his Mental Entity silently blocked the entire snake path behind them, not allowing the person behind to get even half a step closer to Chi Wan.
As soon as they left the snake pit, Chi Wan saw the vehicles from Base A1.
And standing out among the hundreds of Sentinels was Cang Lin.
Her small face immediately fell.
Seeing Chi Wan look at him as if her parents had died, Cang Lin didn’t care at all.
He walked toward Qi Ye: “Weâre out of purification agents. Spare some.”
Base C3âs purification agents had barely been consumed. The Sentinels moved a full crate out.
“Thanks. We left in a hurry; didn’t bring enough Guides or purification agents. By the way, how is your exploration progress here?”
The two of them talked back and forth.
Chi Wan moved away from them and entered the group of Sentinels.
She saw several Sentinels with excessively high Violence Values. The two Guides from Base A1 were already mentally exhausted and were resting in the vehicles at the back.
“Do you need Soothing?”
Hardly able to believe their ears, the Sentinels of Base A1 looked flattered and nodded repeatedly.
Among them was a Sentinel who had managed to grab one of Guide Chi Wanâs Soothing slots before, and three others who had been part of a group Soothing by her.
These four had bragged about Guide Chi Wanâs Soothing abilities more than once.
The other Sentinels were dying of envy!
This happiness came so fast; they were like thirsty little puppies, wagging their tails and waiting for their masterâs touch.
Chi Wan quickly performed a group Soothing for them.
The beautiful silver-white kittens leapt about. Almost every time one landed on a Sentinel’s head, it caused their Mental Entities to follow uncontrollably.
During their conversation, Qi Ye and Cang Lin naturally noticed the commotion on Chi Wanâs end.
A strange look appeared in Cang Linâs eyes, but he didn’t take it too much to heart.
Having been retaliated against several times and suffering a major injury, she had finally become well-behaved and dutiful. He had seen many people like thisâthey responded to the stick, not the carrot. They were ungrateful, which truly earned his disdain.
But his disdain hadn’t lasted long before wisps of that silver-white Mental Power leaked over to him.
He suddenly felt the agitation within his body very clearly.
The small Golden Dragon was incredibly excited; he could almost not control it.
Cang Lin could even feel his own Mental Entity wagging its tail and howling:
“Want her! Want her!”
His brow furrowed slightly. He didn’t have much heart for official business anymore, only responding to Qi Ye perfunctorily.
After Soothing most of the Sentinels with high Violence Values and purifying some as well, Chi Wanâs energy value broke through Grade B.
It reached Grade A.
She was in a great mood. Looking up, she saw a Sentinel walking toward her.
In his hand was her Guide Essence.
“Guide Chi Wan, I am the captain of Team 2 from Base A1. I am very grateful to you.”
Under Chi Wanâs confused gaze, he continued:
“If it weren’t for your Guide Essence, several members of our team would have died in the mission a few days ago.”
Chi Wan looked at the Guide Essence in his hand.
Her Guide Essence was the highest grade in the Alliance. Logically, only Commanders had the right to use it.
As if realizing where her confusion lay through her thoughtful gaze, the Sentinel said sheepishly:
“Commander Pei gave this to our Commander. He gave it to us, and only then did we have the chance to use such a high-grade Guide Essence.”
He spoke politely, but the Sentinel behind him was a blunt fool. His EQ was negative, and he didn’t consider the impropriety of the truth at all. He blurted out in a loud voice:
“Commander Pei said he wouldn’t use your things even if he turned into a Polluted Entity.
Our Commander said he disdains using your Guide Essence, so he gave it to us.”
Chi Wanâs face gradually turned pale.
The limit for drawing blood from a Guide in the galaxy is 1000ml. She had drawn a full 1000ml, taking every single one of their commanders into account.
Yet she never imagined that some of them would disdain using her Guide Essence so much.
Seeing Chi Wanâs terrible expression, the Sentinel realized he had said too much.
The other Sentinels looked at him with accusatory glares, and one Sentinel even pulled him back, scolding him in a low voice:
“Shut your mouth! Can you even say things like that?”
They wanted to comfort her, but Chi Wan just shook her head with a smile.
“Itâs fine.”
She turned around, happening to meet Cang Linâs golden eyes.
Stung by the anger and disgust in her eyes, his brows lifted slightly.
Qi Ye followed Cang Linâs strange gaze.
He saw Chi Wan walking straight over.
Translatorâs Note: Ugh, Cang Lin is so annoying! The “Guide Essence” (ĺĺ°ç´ ) is like a concentrated pheromone/energy liquid Guides produce. For the commanders to give it away to subordinates just because they “disdain” Chi Wan is a huge insult to her hard work and health (remember, she had to draw blood for it!). No wonder sheâs furious. On a side note, the mental entities are so much more honest than their mastersâCang Lin’s dragon is already obsessed!
