Chapter 60: Choosing the Accompanying Base
Tonight, the X-K Alliance was destined to be sleepless.
Everyone was extremely busy.
As was Chi Wan.
After signing the contract, she went to the Alliance Contribution Point Exchange Building accompanied by Kui An.
The more the two spent time together, the more they felt their personalities were compatible, and even their forms of address became more intimate.
The buildings in the Alliance were mostly made of anti-pollution white unknown materials, simple and efficient, like giant white eggs.
In the first-floor hall of the Contribution Building, a massive blue star-screen was projected in the air. The first seven names were undoubtedly the seven Commanders, leading by a landslide.
Chi Wan looked down.
Her Contribution PointsâRank 55.
When she first transmigrated, her Contribution Points were at the very bottom of this Alliance of over 100,000 people. Now, she had already risen to Rank 55.
“You’re truly amazing. You’re even higher than me.”
Facing Kui Anâs praise, Chi Wan gave a bashful smile.
She walked to the exchange counter and briefly looked at the materials the Alliance offered. Without much hesitation, she chose Energy Concentrated Fluid.
All her Contribution Points were exchanged for Energy Concentrated Fluid, totaling a full crate.
It couldn’t be denied that the Alliance was very generous in terms of the cost-effectiveness of Contribution Point exchange. There were many precious and rare items, as these points were mostly earned by Sentinels and Guides with their lives.
After the exchange, Chi Wan found an empty rest area and quickly absorbed the entire crate of Energy Concentrated Fluid.
[Congratulations, Host! Your energy value has successfully advanced to Grade S!]
The System’s announcement filled her heart with joy, and the silver energy in her palm became significantly denser.
Kui An was also infected by Chi Wanâs happiness:
“Little Wanwan, is the function of your Ability purification?”
Chi Wan told the truth:
“It seems there are other effects, such as… enhancement?”
She hadn’t tested it yet and was still in the exploratory stage.
“Sounds very interesting.”
Kui An leaned closer. Before she could even touch the silver energy, the energy seemed very friendly toward her and actively touched her fingertips.
Her eyes softened.
Outside the door, the footsteps of several Sentinels grew louder. In this temporary rest room with poor soundproofing, their conversation drifted in:
“I heard only fourteen Guides signed up this time.”
“Iâm not surprised at all. Guides are afraid of danger, let alone an SSS-rank mission where they might lose their lives.”
“The number of Guides is scarce. Now it just depends on who SSS-rank Guide Chi Wan follows. Her Ability is purificationâwhichever base she is in will have more safety guarantee.”
“Don’t mention her, okay? I really can’t stand you ‘simps’ who forget the pain once the wound is healed. You got a group Soothing once and now you’re obsessed.”
“Whatâs wrong? I think Guide Chi Wan is quite good.”
“Forgot what she did before? A person’s nature doesn’t change. Sheâs just hiding part of her true self. Be careful that one day she exposes her true face againâif she’s unhappy with you, she’ll kill you in a pile of Polluted Entities.”
“You’re right. She makes me feel sick.”
Kui An couldn’t listen anymore and pulled open the partition curtain with a swish.
The expressions of several Sentinels changed instantly when they saw the suddenly appearing Kui An and the Chi Wan behind her.
“Which one of you finds Guide Chi Wan ‘sick’?”
Although Kui An was smiling, it made the tall Sentinels somewhat afraid.
One Sentinel stepped forward, stubbornly arrogant:
“I do.”
Kui An clearly recognized this Sentinel. Her seductive voice rose a few notches:
“A B-rank Sentinel with tiny skills but a huge temper.”
“Wanwan, enhance me.”
Chi Wan didn’t ask what she was going to do, she simply released her Ability. The silver energy linked with her, and the next second, the giant man-eating flower swayed and manifested a body more than twice its original size.
The stem and leaves rose, and with a snap, they slapped that Sentinelâs face!
The other Sentinels were startled by the strong wind kicked up by the stems and leaves, and the Sentinel who was caught off guard was clearly shocked that a Guide would use a plant-type Mental Entity to slap him. His face was scratched by the thorny stems.
He reacted, his half-reddened face etched with anger: “You!”
He even wanted to pull out the weapon at his waist.
The other Sentinels hurriedly stopped him:
“She is Kui Chuan the Administrator’s biological sister, Kui An! Do you want to die?”
Hearing her identity, the B-rank Sentinelâs expression turned to shock, and he could only swallow his anger.
“Get lost.”
Kui An said lightly, the smile not reaching her eyes. After coldly watching the Sentinel being dragged away, she turned back to Chi Wan.
She was originally worried that she would be sad because of others’ malice, but seeing her small face was calm, she breathed a sigh of relief.
“Don’t worry about me, Sister Kui An. I don’t care anymore.”
“I’ve also realized that trying to ‘whitewash’ myself is the most foolish behavior.”
People’s prejudice is a mountain that is difficult to move.
Kui An rubbed Chi Wanâs head and spoke gently:
“Thatâs how it is, especially for people with strong subjective consciousness. Their judgment of a person is often decided at first sight.”
“Once you are put on their blacklist, it’s very difficult to change their thoughts about you.”
She laughed: “So when facing malice, it’s better to just strike back directly.”
Chi Wan suddenly looked at her:
“Then what if the opponent’s strength is far greater than mine?”
Kui An pulled out a fan from her waist and fanned it gently, falling into thought:
“Now you’ve got me. But isn’t there a saying: ‘If you can’t provoke them, can’t you hide from them?'”
“In such a situation, just keep a respectful distance and protect yourself.”
Chi Wan laughed. Her smile was light and shallow, carrying a sense of determination and release:
“I think so too.”
It was clearly just a simple conversation, but Kui An seemed to hear something else. Her heart skipped a beat, and she cast an unobtrusive glance at Chi Wan. With a flash in her eyes, she just naturally took her arm and walked out:
“Alright, alright. The main force should be all gathered. Let’s set out first.”
“By the way, my name is Kui Anâthe ‘An’ in ‘Sunflower,’ not the ‘Chuan’ like my brother.”
Seeing Chi Wan look up at her with curious eyes as cute as a kitten, she tapped her forehead:
“As a side note, my connections in the Alliance aren’t just in the Mechanical Department. If you encounter difficulties in the future, remember to come find me.”
…
On the Alliance square, several large spaceships were docked under the dawn light.
Over 30,000 Sentinels were ready to go.
The scale was magnificent.
On the leading spaceship, Cang Lin occasionally looked down.
“So, only Chi Wan hasn’t chosen a team yet?”
“Yes, Commander.”
The Sentinelâs logic was clear:
“Before, Guide Chi Wan rotated through various bases as an SSS-rank Guide, and it was voluntary.”
“But since that incident with Commander Pei, her rights are now equivalent to a Commander’s, and she can choose her own team. She probably won’t choose us.”
Cang Lin felt a strange displeasure upon hearing this. He turned his head to look at him, asking a question he already knew the answer to:
“Why wouldn’t she choose us?”
“Ah? Haven’t you always been unwilling to be in the same team as Guide Chi Wan?”
Seeing Cang Linâs expression was wrong, the Sentinel immediately realized something.
He slapped his head: “Tsk, I forgot. You even invited her to join the operation.”
“Then Commander, should we go and please Guide Chi Wan a bit? Gain some favor so she’ll choose us?”
The words “please” and “gain favor” sounded extremely piercing to Cang Linâs ears.
From childhood to adulthood, others had always scrambled to please him; he had never pleased anyone.
His face immediately soured:
“Who said I want to be in the same team as her?”
His mouth was tough, but the next second he couldn’t sit still and stood up, quickly calling up the personnel allocation on his light-brainâ
Base A1: Two accompanying Guides.
He frowned: “Two? Is that too many?”
The Sentinel was confused: “Except for Guide Chi Wan, a total of fourteen Guides signed up. Our base getting two is a very normal number.”
“Guide Chi Wan is here! Guide Chi Wan, you can start choosing bases now. You can choose one accompanying base or multiple.”
The voice of a Sentinel below pulled Cang Linâs thoughts back.
He couldn’t help but lean out and look down, only to see that kid Shen Yu was actually waiting for her early on, greeting her with great enthusiasm.
“Join our Base N9.”
Under the dawn, the youthâs eyes were full of smiles, his hair shimmering:
“I will definitely protect you.”
Not far away, Shi Ye was also walking toward them.
“Look, Commander. The choice is now in Guide Chi Wanâs hands. Other Commanders are competing.”
Cang Lin couldn’t stay still.
…
This was the first time Chi Wan had met Shi Ye since her last major injury.
As usual, he spoke little, simply looking at her with his dark eyes:
“Base K1 invites you to join. Any requirementsâjust ask.”
Kui An looked at Chi Wan: “I just happened to be assigned to Base K1. How about we go together?”
Chi Wan looked at the two of them.
These two were ones she didn’t necessarily dislike.
Currently, Qi Ye was away. Contact with Pei Yuan and Cang Lin was the most impossible. Li Su had made a clean break with her, declaring they would never cooperate.
Then these two bases were indeed her most suitable choices.
She nodded to the Alliance inspection captain beside her:
“I choose to accompany Base N9 and Base K1.”
“Alright. It’s confirmed, right? Are there any other bases to add?”
Just as Chi Wan was about to shake her head, Cang Linâs voice rang out from behind the Sentinels.
“Wait a moment. Base A1 is short of a Guide.”
