Chapter 7: A Change of Opinion
She barely let out two sobs before the snake tail wound directly around her neck and covered her mouth.
Immediately after, the muscles of the snake coiled around her waist flexed, lifting her into the air.
With her mouth covered, Chi Wan widened her large eyes, looking at Qi Ye, whose brow was lowered in oppression. Her blue-violet irises reflected his sharp, angular features and the cold, unfeeling gaze of the Silver Python behind him.
She tried to struggle.
The coils tightened.
“Cry again, and I’ll throw you into the pollution fog.”
His tone was damp, cold, and gloomy.
Chi Wan was certain he would actually do it.
She immediately gave up struggling and behaved.
The young girl’s silver hair, shimmering with blue-violet iridescence, was thick and curly, scattering over the silver snake’s body in a chaotic yet harmonious blend.
She was extremely beautiful; there was no doubt about that.
It was a pity that beneath that beautiful skin lay the heart of a viper.
So much so that even in his Binding Heat, he would rather struggle to suppress himself than feel a shred of desire for her.
Seeing that she was behaving, Qi Ye set her down.
He lifted his wrist, pushing up his leather bracer. With lowered eyelids suppressing his rough, hot breaths, he squeezed a damp, cold command through his teeth, word by word:
“A1 Base is the closest to us. I will notify them to pick you up in two days.”
He would rather switch for an SS-rank Guide.
Chi Wan panicked upon hearing A1 Base.
That was Cang Lin’s base.
That demon who had forced her to soothe him.
“I don’t want to go to A1 Base. They have my pheromones.”
Hearing her words, his hand paused slightly.
“You extracted pheromones?”
Chi Wan nodded, her large, beautiful eyes blinking innocently.
“Enough for the other teams to last at least a few days.”
And the C3 Base team she was following had no pheromones; they needed her the most right now.
Qi Ye took a deep breath and strode toward the building.
“Commander, the upper floors have been searched. No important information was found.”
“Binding Heat inhibitor.”
“Huh?”
Seeing his expression was off, Hei Mi immediately panicked and grabbed a Binding Heat inhibitor from the portable case, handing it to Qi Ye.
Why did the Commander suddenly break out in Binding Heat…
He didn’t dare ask more. His gaze drifted past Qi Ye to Chi Wan, who was scratching her head with a guilty, “I made a mistake” look on her face. He understood instantly.
…
After injecting the inhibitor, Qi Ye led the main force toward the core area of the mining zone.
Pollution entities gradually increased in number. The deeper they went, the more polluted humans they saw.
Most of them were once capable Sentinels. After becoming pollution entities, their combat power had increased several times over.
The real battle officially began now.
They fought from day until night, clearing barely more than half of the 031 Factory.
In the polluted world, Sentinels had to stick together to rest at night.
Because night was the time when the pollution entities known as Specters ruled.
It was also the time when Sentinels’ Mental Entities were most vulnerable to being devoured.
All dead high-level pollution entities possessed Specters, which would move out at night to attack the Mental Entities of Sentinels and Guides.
Ordinary people could not see Specters, and some low-level Sentinels and Guides couldn’t see high-level Specters either.
Without a high-level Sentinel or Guide keeping watch, it was possible for high-level Specters to devour the Mental Entities of the squad without anyone noticing until it was too late.
Whether a Mental Entity was thoroughly polluted or devoured, the Sentinel would die. The former resulted in becoming a pollution entity, while the latter meant immediate death.
Since the only other accompanying Guide besides Chi Wan was an S-rank Guide, she was currently left with the convoy and the Sentinels guarding it.
Therefore, the responsibility for the mental barrier of the main force fell entirely to Chi Wan.
With her SSS-rank Mental Power, she could construct a barrier capable of resisting Specters of almost any level.
Inside the mental barrier, the Sentinels squatted in a circle, preparing dinner.
Watching them take out various foods and start a campfire, Chi Wan couldn’t help but swallow her saliva.
“Guide Chi Wan, come eat with us!”
The Sentinels were quite warm toward her at this moment.
Her full support during the day had greatly improved their opinion of her.
Since they invited her, she didn’t stand on ceremony.
Stuffing her bread into her pocket, she happily trotted over to join them.
“Here, Guide Chi Wan.”
A dark-skinned Sentinel handed over a metal mess kit. Inside, white meat was cut into diamond-shaped chunks.
“Thank you. What kind of meat is this?”
She took the box and took a big bite.
Delicious.
Her eyes lit up. Her cute reaction won over the affection of quite a few Sentinels.
Suddenly, many tall Sentinels crowded around her.
“I’ll tell you a secret. It’s snake meat.”
The dark-skinned Sentinel whispered to Chi Wan. Seeing her large eyes widen in shock, he immediately lowered his voice and added:
“Shh, eat it secretly. Don’t let the Commander know. He hates it when we eat snake meat.”
Hearing this, Chi Wan couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
When Qi Ye entered the room after finishing his patrol outside, this was the scene he saw.
The incredibly beautiful girl Guide was surrounded by Sentinels, holding a mess kit and smiling sweetly. The firelight reflected on her flawless little face, adding a touch of vivid life to her features.
The scene was too warm.
It made his cold green eyes flicker slightly.
“Commander.”
Hei Mi handed him a mess kit.
Qi Ye took it and sat down on the spot.
“Commander, the Sentinels with high pollution levels have all been injected with purifier. We have enough purifier left to last us half a month.”
Facing Hei Mi’s report, Qi Ye showed no expression. He lazily lifted his eyes, his gaze passing through the crowd to land on Chi Wan, who was chatting and laughing with the Sentinels. Her eyes, bright from the firelight, stared at the flames as if she were pondering something.
Her dazed look was somewhat foolishly cute.
As if possessed, he used his Mind Reading on her:
[I wonder what it would taste like to slice off Qi Ye’s meat and roast it? Would it be this delicious too?]
His face instantly turned several degrees colder.
“Which one of you is eating snake meat behind my back again?”
Dark-skinned Sentinel: “???!!!!!”
Chi Wan: “!!”
