Sentinel & Guide: From Pariah to Heartthrob Chapter 79

Chapter 79: You Should Resent Me

Cang Lin used a blade hilt to firmly pin down the Golden Dragon. His golden eyes were cold and forceful:

“Behave.”

Only then did the Golden Dragon regain most of its calm, coiling obediently by Cang Lin’s side, though its thick gaze remained fixed on the silver-white kitten.

The kitten seemed a bit angry, its fur standing on end as it vented its frustration on the dragon’s body.

Unlike the Golden Dragon’s gentle touch, the kitten’s sharp teeth sank directly into the dragon’s scales, every bite fierce and merciless.

The Golden Dragon was in pain, yet its eyes didn’t shift a fraction. Its swaying dragon tail seemed to say:

“Bite away. You can bite anywhere.”

But Cang Lin wasn’t very happy. He looked at Chi Wan:

“Is this how you are when you soothe other Sentinels?”

“Naturally not. I tailor the treatment to the patient.”

“???”

So he deserved to be treated roughly?

Cang Lin was furious, but this anger carried a hint of unfamiliar bitterness, making his throat tight.

Unable to do anything about the little person before him, his voice sank to rock bottom:

“I can feel pain too.”

Immediately after, a massive Black Wolf King charged over!

As soon as the wolf’s body arrived, it circled Chi Wan tightly. Its red eyes scanned Chi Wan’s body up and down, ensuring she was unharmed before nuzzling her arm with its head.

Cang Lin looked ahead. From behind the mist, Shi Ye walked over, followed by some Sentinels from the K1 Base.

His black hair was completely wet, scattered messily over his forehead—wild and lofty. Although there wasn’t much expression on his face, which was covered in water droplets, those eyes were locked onto Chi Wan, the concern in them impossible to hide.

Cang Lin watched with his arms crossed as Shi Ye strode toward Chi Wan. In the next second, he watched as Shi Ye’s tall frame fiercely embraced her.

Cang Lin’s brow furrowed slightly; he felt a sourness in his heart. What made him even more sour was that she didn’t push him away.

Chi Wan had tried to push him away, but Shi Ye’s hard chest was like a steel wall; she couldn’t move it at all. Just as she was about to ask him to let her go, she heard his low, magnetic voice by her ear:

“I’m sorry. It’s all my fault.”

In the next second, Chi Wan was picked up by him. He strode toward a secluded spot while carrying her. The K1 Base Sentinels very sensibly blocked the path of Cang Lin and the others.

Cang Lin’s gaze as he watched the two leave turned cold.

When did she and Shi Ye become so familiar?

“Put me down.”

Chi Wan was unaccustomed to his sudden abnormal behavior. She struggled to get down, but as she did, she realized his clothes were completely wet.

Shi Ye set Chi Wan down and knelt before her, looking at her carefully:

“Where were you pulled away to just now?”

He had found the whirlpool and gone into the sea, searching for a long time without finding any sign of her.

Chi Wan lowered her eyes and thought about her situation just now, telling him everything she had experienced.

She had lost consciousness and knew nothing of what followed.

“I’m sorry. If I hadn’t been distracted in battle, you wouldn’t have been pulled away.”

He apologized again, those black eyes staring at her intently, like a wolf-dog begging for forgiveness.

Chi Wan took a step back and just shook her head:

“It’s fine. I was pulled away on my own. It’s normal for accidents to happen in battle.”

Even for Sentinels and Guides, it was common for Sentinels to fail to protect a Guide, leading to casualties.

One had to preserve oneself first before having the energy to protect others. Chi Wan understood this truth.

Seeing her so generous, Shi Ye felt even worse.

He held himself to the standard of being her Designated Sentinel.

Such a dereliction of duty just now made him incredibly self-reproachful. When he was looking for her underwater, he had thought of all the worst-case scenarios.

Fortunately, she was safe and sound.

The feeling of regaining what was lost made one both grateful and cherish it immensely.

He whispered: “You can try to demand more from me.”

Chi Wan didn’t know what to say, and just listened as Shi Ye continued:

“You should resent me for causing you to be injured.”

Chi Wan’s brow lifted slightly. “Why? I don’t resent you at all. Even if it was an illusion, family is more important.”

Shi Ye looked at her carefully, trying to find a trace of duplicity in the details of her expression.

But there was none.

The more she didn’t care, the more his heart tightened.

Chi Wan spoke seriously: “We are temporary battle partners. On the day Planet A-73 is finished being cleared, the X-K Alliance will dissolve, and we won’t have any connection. There’s no need to be so harsh toward a temporary comrade-in-arms. Besides, we are strangers—we have no relationship.”

Shi Ye really wanted to shut this heartless little mouth.

Terms like “won’t have any connection” and “temporary comrade-in-arms” struck his heart, making it impossible for him to maintain his surface calm.

His breathing grew a few degrees heavier. Beneath the slightly open collar of his combat uniform, his chest muscles rose and fell deeply:

“I don’t want to have no connection with you.”

His breath was scorching. “I thought I had already realized my concern for you, but I still underestimated how much I care.”

As he spoke, he stood up and approached her, his black eyes faintly glowing with a dangerous red light:

“Chi Wan, I want to be your Permanent Designated Sentinel, or even your Contracted Sentinel.”

He pinned her into a corner, hiding the bloodthirsty side of his wolf nature and letting out a tender sigh:

“Can’t you see my feelings for you yet?”

Chi Wan was trapped by his burning chest. Her heart shook; she seemed to understand a little.

In the next second, a muffled groan from Cang Lin and a pained dragon roar from the Golden Dragon came from behind.

Both of them looked over.

In the air, the kitten came flying over as if startled, hiding behind Chi Wan and looking at the Golden Dragon. There was a hint of guilt and fear in its cat-eyes, like it had done something wrong.

“What happened?”

Chi Wan walked over quickly. Before she could get close, she saw that the lower part of the Golden Dragon’s body was dripping blood. As if in extreme pain, the Spirit Body was recalled. Then, the kneeling Cang Lin’s body couldn’t stop trembling as he manifested his black-and-gold dragon horns and tail due to the intense pain. Even his fingers had almost turned into dragon claws.

The kitten’s “meow” was only understood by Chi Wan:

[Meow… I saw that the area under those dragon scales was very fun to play with…]

Chi Wan was stunned, then looked at Cang Lin, who had his head lowered in extreme pain. She was so shocked she couldn’t say a word.
