Shocking The Madman Stole Someone Else’s Canary to be His Wife Chapter 17

Chapter 17: Fire Me

The wall clock showed the hour hand had just turned to five.

Wen Yan held back the urge to smash the document in his hand onto that hateful face opposite him, taking a silent deep breath.

“President Pei, I’m getting off work. Every day I work this job, I am unhappy!”

Wen Yan’s angry appearance was like a cat scratching a person—it didn’t hurt or itch.

Pei Zhouye hooked his lips into a smile, stood up, and walked to Wen Yan’s side. “Let’s go, let’s get off work together.”

Wen Yan turned, opened the door, and left. The speed of closing the door was so fast it almost smashed onto the bridge of Pei Zhouye’s nose.

He was angry at the arrangements, but had no way out.

Pei Zhouye stood beside Wen Yan, waiting for him to pack his things.

He always kept a cold face in the company. Most people around had left; the remaining ones moved a bit faster upon seeing him.

Finally, it was just Pei Zhouye and Wen Yan left.

Wen Yan slammed his things onto the desk, frowning and glaring at Pei Zhouye. The corners of his eyes were red, his breathing unstable, and he almost roared, “Pei Zhouye! What exactly do you want?”

He held back, forcing his tears not to fall.

Pei Zhouye kept suppressing him with the words from the interview. Because of these unreasonable arrangements, he endured difficulties and exclusion from everyone. Now he was following him even here.

Silence filled the air.

Wen Yan broke down, slumped back into the chair, trying hard to adjust.

Since childhood, Wen Yan’s life had been smooth sailing. He had a good personality and good grades, and had never encountered someone as baffled and difficult to deal with as Pei Zhouye. He felt his life was influenced and controlled by Pei Zhouye everywhere, unable to escape or shake him off.

“Pei Zhouye, fire me.” Wen Yan looked up at Pei Zhouye standing in place, his eye rims completely red.

“No.” The person who had been silent just now answered in a second.

Wen Yan was so angry he almost laughed, actually letting out a cold sneer. “Pei Zhouye, I don’t know why you treat me like this. Such a guess might be presumptuous, but I still have to say it.”

Seeing Pei Zhouye standing there in his suit, looking like a decent human being but rendered speechless by his roar, Wen Yan’s voice paused.

His tone calmed down. “If you like me, or have a little good impression of me, I am telling you clearly: I have a boyfriend. This is something you knew the first time we met. Whatever you like about me, I can change it all. If you simply think torturing me is fun, then you have indeed succeeded very well. Seeing me flustered and exasperated, are you happy now?”

Wen Yan sat there looking up at him. His features were superior, his eye color indifferent. The loss of composure just now seemed to have never existed; he was just calmly analyzing the problem with him.

Pei Zhouye loved this cold and distant look of Wen Yan’s to death.

Or rather, he liked every aspect of Wen Yan.

He didn’t answer, but spoke of another matter. “I want you to go to the hospital with me.”

Wen Yan’s body stiffened, looking at Pei Zhouye’s left hand.

More than half a month had passed, but Pei Zhouye had, after all, gotten into that terrifying car accident for him.

Without hesitating for long, Wen Yan said, “Okay.”

Taking the President’s exclusive elevator down for the first time, he got into a Maybach.

It was another car he hadn’t seen before.

Wen Yan thought, Pei Zhouye was wealthy enough to seek novelty in everything. Changing boyfriends must be the same, so even with a good-looking big star by his side, he still pestered him like this.

“Do you like this car?” Pei Zhouye saw him staring at the steering wheel and suddenly asked.

Wen Yan froze, touching his nose somewhat guiltily.

“Don’t like it.”

Pei Zhouye: “Then what kind of car do you like?”

Wen Yan found it tedious and answered perfunctorily, “Don’t know.”

Pei Zhouye didn’t speak, secretly noting it in his heart.

He knew Wen Yan’s tastes, favorite colors, and favorite sports, but he still didn’t know what kind of car Wen Yan liked.

There was some traffic on the road. At a red light intersection, Wen Yan looked at Pei Zhouye’s hand resting on the steering wheel.

The knuckles were distinct, veins faintly appearing with the movement of the fingers. The palm of the left hand bore a shocking scar.

“Does it still hurt?” Wen Yan’s voice softened a little. The area around the wound was still pink, the brown scar stretching across the wide palm like a line, causing palpitations.

“Doesn’t hurt. No feeling anymore.” As he spoke, Pei Zhouye lifted his left hand, opening and closing the palm to show Wen Yan.

Thinking of something, he added, “I wasn’t really injured that time. I have no problems now, you don’t need to worry. We aren’t going to the hospital for that.”

No wonder Wen Yan agreed to go to the hospital with him without asking anything.

Wen Yan took back all his pity just now, leaving only regret.

Then why did he agree to accompany Pei Zhouye to the hospital? But being in Pei Zhouye’s car now, he couldn’t just jump out.

Unable to quell his anger, Wen Yan was somewhat annoyed. “Then you should go to the Fourth Hospital to have your brain checked properly!”

“That’s exactly where we’re going.” Pei Zhouye’s tone was flat, as if stating a very normal thing. “My mother is there.”

In the passenger seat, Wen Yan bit his lower lip tightly, his eyes showing regret. “Sorry.”

The ninety-second red light finally turned green, and Pei Zhouye continued driving.

“Wen Yan, you shouldn’t always apologize for things you didn’t do wrong.”

Wen Yan remained silent.

The Fourth Hospital in Jiang City was a famous psychiatric hospital. Ordinary patients wouldn’t stay there.

Wen Yan didn’t want to say anything now, nor did he want to ask Pei Zhouye why he was taking him to visit his mother.

Out of the corner of his eye, Pei Zhouye saw the unbearable and guilty expression on Wen Yan’s face.

Wen Yan was too soft-hearted and too responsible.

Because he had saved him, Wen Yan tolerated him time and again, accompanying him to the hospital even when angry. Because he wanted to fight for internship opportunities for his classmates, Wen Yan was unhappy with his arrangements yet stayed by his side because of his threats.

If Wen Yan knew it was precisely that soft-heartedness and kindness that attracted a madman like him, he wondered if he would change that universally liked personality because of this lesson.

Silence all the way.

The car parked in the parking lot of the Fourth Hospital. Pei Zhouye and Wen Yan walked together to the reception desk.

The nurse swiped the card and looked up at him.

“Mr. Pei, Ms. Yu was just injected with a sedative. You’ll have to wait a while.”

Pei Zhouye nodded, naturally taking Wen Yan’s wrist, and asked, “Then can we wait outside the ward for a while?”

His tone was exceptionally gentle, rare for him to sound like a normal person.

“Sure.” Wen Yan still pulled his wrist out of his hand, pretending it was casual.

Pei Zhouye didn’t stop him, letting go. “Okay.”

This familiarity made it seem like they were close friends or a couple. Wen Yan felt it was a bit strange, following beside Pei Zhouye.

From the moment they entered the hospital, the vague hostility and oppressiveness on Pei Zhouye disappeared completely, and his attention finally seemed to shift away from Wen Yan.
