Chapter 43: A Gentleman
A powerful hand blocked the door gap, forcibly preventing it from closing.
“You lied to me?” Wen Yan’s eyes were full of shock and shame, misty and beautiful.
Pei Zhouye exerted force again, opening the door and approaching naturally.
“I didn’t say I went out.”
“I go take a shower, you come out to get dressed, isn’t it the same?”
He clasped Wen Yan’s chin, and while Wen Yan wasn’t paying attention, leaned down to imprint a kiss before letting go.
“If you don’t leave, are you going to wash again with me?”
Wen Yan reacted, pushed Pei Zhouye away, and walked out aggressively.
The bathroom door was slammed shut loudly.
Pei Zhouye took a long time in the shower.
Wen Yan turned off the main lights but still left a nightlight for Pei Zhouye.
He thought, if Pei Zhouye fell somewhere because there was no light, that rogue would definitely try to blackmail him again.
He couldn’t sleep.
He still couldn’t maintain this relationship peacefully, couldn’t accept treating Pei Zhouye as a sugar daddy.
He agreed calmly, but his heart was blocked and uncomfortable.
He had never thought he would do this one day since childhood. His mom and dad didn’t teach him this way, and he dared not tell anyone about this matter.
The pillow was wet with tears.
There was movement in the bathroom. Wen Yan sat up and flipped the pillow over, afraid Pei Zhouye would see it and laugh at him again.
The person beside him carried a body of cold air, leaning over to turn off the nightlight.
Wen Yan squeezed his eyes shut pretending to sleep, leaning on the edge of the bed, about to fall off.
Pei Zhouye reached out, grabbed Wen Yan’s waist, and dragged him over.
The heat behind him pressed against him, its presence distinct.
Wen Yan couldn’t pretend to sleep anymore and moved to the side.
The person behind him chased over again.
He couldn’t bear it anymore, suppressing his anger: “Didn’t you say you wanted to be a gentleman?”
The voice of the person behind him was terribly hoarse. “If you move again, I won’t be able to be one.”
Wen Yan wanted to call him shameless, but just as his lips parted, he suddenly remembered the terrifying size in the drawer, froze instantly, and lay stiffly flat.
He couldn’t sleep at all when Pei Zhouye wasn’t there just now, but now with such a strongly present person beside him, Wen Yan thought he would have insomnia for a long time.
Ten minutes later, Pei Zhouye heard Wen Yan’s even breathing.
He raised himself slightly, planted a kiss on Wen Yan’s lips, and afraid of waking him, got up with gentle movements and went to the bathroom again.
The next morning.
Shen Yao was groggy with sleep when he received a phone call.
He glanced at the time, just about to curse, but woke up upon seeing the contact name.
“Brother! What time is it? Why are you up so early? Why wake me up if you’re awake?” Shen Yao’s voice still carried morning grumpiness, yet he was helpless.
“Shen Yao, send me a copy of the love manual your ex-girlfriend compiled before.” Pei Zhouye’s voice carried triumph and relaxation; the spring breeze of his mood almost blew onto Shen Yao’s face through the phone line.
Shen Yao had a girlfriend before. When they were together, she meticulously wrote a love manual. At that time, Shen Yao showed it off every day, saying how much his little girlfriend loved him and how good she was to him.
Pei Zhouye had been dismissive at the time, unexpectedly secretly remembering it until now.
Later, she dumped Shen Yao, and Shen Yao cried for several nights.
Mentioning this made Shen Yao even more unhappy, his resentment heavier than a ghost, but he still sent the love manual over.
“Brother, mine was serious dating, not the kind involving coercion or sugar daddy stuff.” His tone was somewhat sarcastic.
Pei Zhouye seemed not to hear it: “I am also dating seriously.”
As soon as the file was received, Pei Zhouye immediately hung up the phone and clicked open the love manual that could make Shen Yao dead set on someone.
Shen Yao now clicked open that love manual he once regarded as a treasure, and his sleepy brain completely woke up.
Wasn’t this just copied from marketing accounts? How could he have been so bewildered by this thing back then?
It was only because he liked that person, so this thing was useful.
Shen Yao wanted to advise Pei Zhouye, hesitated for a long time, but felt it was too embarrassing, so he simply threw the phone aside and went back to sleep.
When Wen Yan woke up, the space beside him was already empty.
He found his phone and called his mother. The Wen parents had a habit of going to bed early and getting up early, so they answered quickly. They chatted simply for a few sentences.
Wen Yan: “How is Dad?”
Mother Wen handed the phone to Father Wen: “Son is looking for you. You really made him worry bad.”
Father Wen took the phone, carrying some apology: “Yesterday my blood pressure went up, but I’m fine now. Before, I did an investment with Yulan and kept it from you guys. Yesterday morning there seemed to be some problem, so I got anxious for a moment. I checked again today, no problems.”
Father Wen had worked in the financial industry up to the position of manager for many years and always had confidence and assurance. For Gu Yulan to calculate such a scheme, he must have spent a lot of effort to deceive Father Wen.
Thinking of Gu Yulan using their trust to scheme like this, Wen Yan’s heart hurt even more.
Father Wen: “How are you and Yulan? I read the news saying he went abroad. Did he encounter some trouble?”
Wen Yan didn’t know how to answer when suddenly a few knocks came from the door panel. He looked over vigilantly.
The door had been opened silently at some point. Pei Zhouye stood at the door and knocked deliberately.
Father Wen was at the hospital, where there was a lot of background noise. Wen Yan had to turn on the speaker to hear the voice from that side clearly. Pei Zhouye definitely heard the question from that side.
Pei Zhouye coughed twice on purpose, his expression indifferent.
Wen Yan was afraid the other side would discover something wrong.
Father Wen: “What’s wrong? Is there someone else there with you?”
“No!” Wen Yan replied hurriedly. “We are all quite good.”
Father Wen sighed: “It’s my fault. I didn’t discuss it with you guys back then. I knew I was a burden to you, afraid you would worry, so I deliberately hid this matter. Yulan also understood me. If this investment I’m doing with him has no problems, by the end of next year we can get back over a million…”
“Yan-yan, don’t have psychological pressure. We pay back the money early, and you and Yulan can be together as equals. If there are any problems, I will bear them. Don’t let me influence your decision, understand?”
Pei Zhouye’s face was very dark as he approached step by step.
Wen Yan didn’t have time to think that much: “Understood, Dad. I have things to do here, I’ll talk to you later.”
Just as his finger was about to press the hang-up button, Wen Yan realized clearly what Father Wen had said, and his movement paused.
“Thank you, Dad.”
The call hung up.
Wen Yan’s eyes soured, and he sat silently on the bed.
He didn’t know if he regretted it, or which wrong step he should regret taking.
The beginning of everything was that he shouldn’t have agreed to be with Gu Yulan. But Gu Yulan was too good at disguise and deception, and now his parents were still thanking him.
“Am I that unpresentable?”
Pei Zhouye’s voice was deep, his finger pad rubbing over the end of Wen Yan’s reddened eye.
His thoughts interrupted, Wen Yan looked up at Pei Zhouye, his beautiful light-colored eyes carrying sadness.
So pitiful.
Pei Zhouye’s eyes curved: “Yan-yan, now I am your boyfriend, and we even slept together last night. Why are you still lying to Uncle and Auntie? Do you want me to tell them?”
Wen Yan looked at Pei Zhouye nervously.
Pei Zhouye really would do it.
