Shocking The Madman Stole Someone Else’s Canary to be His Wife Chapter 78

Chapter 78: Not Wanting My Wife to Have Regrets

When Wen Yan pushed open the front door, the motion-sensor light in the foyer flickered on.

His mother was bent over changing her shoes. Hearing the noise, she looked back. Her gaze froze on his face, and the bag in her hand hit the shoe cabinet with a thud.

“What happened to your face?” She hurried over, her fingertips hovering over the graze on his cheekbone, her voice trembling. “Were you in a fight?”

Wen Yan avoided her hand and looked down to change his shoes. His voice was very quiet. “It wasn’t a fight. I just accidentally scraped it.”

As soon as he said it, he realized how ridiculous the lie was. The bandaged and disinfected wound was obvious.

“A ‘scrape’ can be this bad?” his mother’s voice rose slightly.

His father, who was cooking in the kitchen, heard the commotion and rushed out. “What’s wrong?”

His gaze landed on Wen Yan’s face, and his brow furrowed deeply. “Wen Yan, who bullied you?”

After sitting on the sofa, his mother’s eyes were already rimmed with red.

Wen Yan had always had a good personality; he rarely had conflicts with others, and he certainly never fought.

His father’s face was grim. “Take off your jacket.”

Under the gaze of both parents, Wen Yan finally removed his down jacket.

He was dressed thinly underneath. His father pulled the sleeve up his arm, gripping it as he inspected it carefully from top to bottom. Then he turned him around to check his back, his face turning a shade of iron-blue.

Wen Yan remained silent.

“Yan-yan, can I see?” his mother asked.

Wen Yan said nothing but took off his long-sleeved shirt.

On his perfect, snow-white skin were bruises everywhere. On his back was a large purple mark, obviously from being kicked hard.

“Were you the one who fought Li Ming and the others at the school wall?” his mother’s voice trembled.

Wen Yan didn’t deny it.

She couldn’t stop her heartache, and tears began to fall. She sobbed quietly. “Yan-yan, it’s really okay. Just tell me before you do something like this next time, alright?”

His father, knowing the whole story, was breathing heavily with anger.

He didn’t blame them for not being honest. He only regretted not realizing sooner that something had been wrong with his wife lately.

All three of them were people who hid their worries from each other for the sake of the others.

His mother comforted him: “It’s okay. The school has already processed their expulsion. Yan-yan, don’t be so reckless. There were so many of them—if you had been seriously hurt, we would have been devastated.”

“I just wanted to get in to record evidence,” Wen Yan said in a muffled voice.

As a teacher at the school and the victim, his mother was so accustomed to backing down that it wasn’t convenient for her to make a scene. So he had planned to get evidence and then find another way.

It just so happened that he’d run into them, and Li Ming had said those things… he really couldn’t help himself.

“Were they expelled?” Wen Yan asked suddenly.

His mother nodded hesitantly. “Yes, expelled. The school handled it very quickly this time and even issued a disciplinary record.”

Wen Yan was silent.

The three of them stayed together for a long time.

After returning to his room, Wen Yan called a number back.

“Pei Zhouye, thank you.”

The other side picked up quickly but said nothing. Through the receiver, Wen Yan could hear heavy, ragged breathing.

Wen Yan’s mind went blank for a second. Realizing what Pei Zhouye was doing, his face flushed instantly, and he went to hang up.

A second before his finger touched the button, the other side seemed to know what he was doing.

“Wen Yan,” the voice on the other end was low, raspy, and lazy. “Don’t hang up.”

A curse was on the tip of Wen Yan’s tongue.

Then, a low, muffled voice came through: “I miss you.”

Wen Yan’s ears burned. He lowered his voice and asked, “Pei Zhouye, are you really sick? You should go to the hospital. I’m not joking.”

He spoke with great earnestness.

Pei Zhouye let out a laugh. “What kind of sick?”

“Sex addiction.”

Wen Yan said it very seriously.

This time, Pei Zhouye couldn’t laugh.

During his time abroad, he might have truly gone a bit mad from missing Wen Yan.

“I only have that for you…”

Before he could finish, Wen Yan had already hung up.

Wen Yan’s heart was racing.

A moment later, Pei Zhouye called back.

“It’s no fun without you,” came the lazy voice.

“Pei Zhouye!”

Pei Zhouye quickly coaxed, “I’m sorry. I won’t say it again.”

He added, “School starts in a few days. Let’s go back to A City together.”

He said it with total frankness.

“No,” Wen Yan refused flatly. “I’ve already bought my high-speed rail ticket.”

It was impossible to get plane tickets during the back-to-school season; Wen Yan had even only managed to get a first-class seat on the train.

Pei Zhouye sounded a bit unhappy. “Then I’ll go with you.”

Wen Yan’s expression was strange. A young master like Pei Zhouye, who had a private jet at his disposal, was going to take the high-speed rail with him.

Furthermore, Pei Zhouye had absolutely no common sense.

“Sure,” Wen Yan replied with a smile, his tone thick with sarcasm. “But the tickets sold out long ago. What a shame—I won’t be able to head to A City hand-in-hand with President Pei.”

A few low chuckles came from Pei Zhouye’s throat. “Wife, you’re so cute.”

The sarcasm Wen Yan had been about to unleash died in his throat.

“Lunatic. Goodbye.”

After hanging up, Wen Yan felt like he wasn’t quite sober. He hurried to the bathroom to splash his face with water, but hit a wound and hissed in pain.

He looked up and saw his reflection in the mirror—his face was flushed, his expression dazed.

How had he been led around by Pei Zhouye again?

Wen Yan lowered his head gloomily.

He thought that next time, he should speak to Pei Zhouye as little as possible.

When he saw Pei Zhouye in the waiting room, Wen Yan’s eyes almost popped out of his head.

Pei Zhouye was wearing a black scarf that covered the lower half of his face, but his aura was still incredibly striking.

Those peach blossom eyes curved at him, and he strode over.

Wen Yan lowered his head in despair, pulling his mask up a bit more, wishing he could dig a hole and hide.

What a disaster.

The man still made his way to his side.

The waiting room was crowded, and there were no seats near Wen Yan, so the tall figure just stood in front of him.

His knee was bumped.

In public, Wen Yan was afraid that if he ignored him, the man would do something shocking again.

Wen Yan looked up and happened to meet those smiling dark eyes.

He choked for a moment before muttering, “What are you trying to do?”

Pei Zhouye replied with a smile, “I don’t want my wife to have any regrets.”

Wen Yan’s Adam’s apple rolled. He didn’t speak, but his eyes looked like they were cursing quite fiercely.

Along the way, Pei Zhouye naturally helped him with his suitcase. Wen Yan’s hands were empty, which felt very awkward and unfamiliar.

A slap followed by a sweet date—yet it seemed he was simply unable to resist.

When Pei Zhouye finally sat in the seat next to him, Wen Yan wasn’t even particularly surprised.

He asked with some curiosity, “How did you get the ticket?”

Pei Zhouye’s legs were a bit cramped, so he shifted his position uncomfortably.

“You mean the seat?”

Wen Yan nodded.

“I bought him a first-class plane ticket and transferred twenty thousand…”

Wen Yan was no longer listening to the rest of Pei Zhouye’s words.

Only one thought remained in his mind.

Why had he never met a fool like Pei Zhouye who wanted to buy his seat before?
