Chapter 1: Culinary Desert?
“Have you considered it carefully? Either come up with the rent now, or become Mr. Xu’s mistress…”
Ning Yunyi slowly opened his eyes, his lowered brow and eyes transforming from puzzled to coldly aloof.
He was digesting the vastly different memories in his mind – one belonging to him, the other to this body.
“I’d say, the fact that Mr. Xu is willing to take you on is a blessing. Mr. Xu is a well-known wealthy man in this area. You may be good-looking, but you have a bastard child in tow.”
“I heard this child of yours doesn’t even know who the father is, and is sickly. In the future, there’ll be so many places you’ll need to spend money on, you can’t even afford the rent, let alone medical fees.”
“Mr. Xu said, as long as you’re willing to be his mistress, he’ll take care of you and your bastard child. This is an opportunity of a lifetime, where else can you find it?”
The shrill voice grated on Ning Yunyi’s eardrums. He lifted his gaze, his sharp eyes making the landlord feel as if his neck was being strangled, causing the voice to abruptly stop.
The middle-aged man sitting next to them, who had remained silent, was now impatient, his sleazy gaze raking up and down Ning Yunyi. He licked his lips: “Enough nonsense, take him away!”
Almost as soon as the words left his mouth, the four bodyguards standing by moved forward, reaching to grab Ning Yunyi.
The landlord sighed, he had told him to submit softly, but now not only did he have to become a mistress, that bastard child he knew nothing about might not even be taken in.
He heard the child had fallen ill these past few days, with no one to care for him, he’d probably not survive.
But the next moment, the landlord was dumbfounded, staring unbelievably at the unfolding scene.
He didn’t even know how it happened, the towering, enhanced bodyguards didn’t even touch the frail, pale young man, before being kicked away by him.
Kicked – away?
This scene even made Mr. Xu sit up straight, his expression turning ugly as he narrowed his eyes, re-examining Ning Yunyi, contemplating something.
Ning Yunyi didn’t hesitate at all, after kicking away the first bodyguard, he flexed his neck, the cracking sounds accompanying the gathering of spiritual energy in his palm. This time, he punched the approaching second bodyguard.
The bodyguard didn’t even have time to counterattack, flying several meters away, crashing heavily into the door next to Mr. Xu.
He slid down, shaking his head, and then collapsed, not getting up again.
The remaining two bodyguards, under Ning Yunyi’s icy gaze, instinctively retreated a few steps.
Ning Yunyi stood there, his lowered brow and eyes mockingly looking at Mr. Xu, who had already changed color: “Shall we continue? How much benefit did that person give you to humiliate me? For you to want me to be your mistress, do you think you’re worthy?”
Mr. Xu finally couldn’t hold on, the fat skin of his face twitching a few times, obviously not expecting the other party to know that someone had deliberately instigated this.
That person’s goal was simple, to let the once prestigious young master of the Ning family die miserably on this trash planet.
Mr. Xu had many ruthless methods, especially since Ning Yunyi was good-looking, he had a hundred ways to make the other party wish for death.
But the information that person provided was not accurate, saying this young master of the Ning family was just a waste, without an ounce of self-defense ability, yet he had just taken down two of his D-level bodyguards with just one move.
Mr. Xu’s expression changed several times, waving his hand to have the other two bodyguards retreat, he stood up and smiled: “It was all a misunderstanding, Ning sir, if you’re unwilling, I won’t force you. Sorry for the disturbance.”
Before the matter was investigated, Mr. Xu planned to ask about it first. He had taken the benefits, but not to the point of risking his life.
As Mr. Xu left with his people, the landlord pressed against the wall by the door, his shaky voice trembling: “I… I was just trying to help…”
Ning Yunyi looked at him coldly: “The lease on this house expires in three days, before then, don’t let me see you, get out.”
The landlord trembled, responding hurriedly, retreating along the wall, afraid that Ning Yunyi would suddenly rush over and kick him out.
Until the door closed, Ning Yunyi tilted his head and spat out a mouthful of blood.
The original body was in dire straits, he had forcibly driven his cultivation to deal with the two bodyguards.
Fortunately, his imposing manner was able to intimidate that so-called Mr. Xu into running away. But this was only for now, once he contacted the informed person, he might come again.
However, Ning Yunyi was not worried about that. As the patriarch of the largest sect, Ning Yunyi’s combat power was maxed out, having few rivals before his death.
The only problem was, he couldn’t quite remember how he died. Fortunately, his cultivated skills had come with him.
Ning Yunyi sat down cross-legged right where he was, the scarce spiritual energy around him seemingly imbued with vitality, streaming into his limbs and meridians.
After an unknown amount of time, Ning Yunyi reopened his eyes, his originally deathly pale complexion recovering somewhat, but not much better.
He spread open his palm, trying to activate the Mustard Seed Space, but to his disappointment, it did not appear as expected.
Ning Yunyi frowned, uncertain whether it was due to insufficient cultivation or that all the treasures he had collected did not come with him.
A glance out of the corner of his eye caught sight of a very faint birthmark on the inside of his wrist, as if awakening distant memories. Tentatively touching it, the scene in front of him suddenly changed, and he found himself in a large villa-like space.
It was filled with all kinds of things, the accumulation of his past life when he was a rich second-generation. Suddenly, one day, he found himself with this spatial ability, so he frantically hoarded everything, thinking the apocalypse was coming.
But the apocalypse never came, and he ended up transmigrating into the cultivation world.
Now, there were faint sounds coming from the inner room. Ning Yunyi recalled something and stepped over.
The original body’s rented place was a dilapidated spaceship, not very big, just a single room and a living room, and the sound was coming from the bedroom.
Reaching the door, Ning Yunyi thought of the cub born to the original body, his mood complicated.
Male pregnancy in the cultivation world was already a headache, and now he had encountered it in the interstellar era.
The iron-chested former patriarch of the Ancient Martial Sect, Ning Yunyi, was a bit numb, but thinking of that sickly cub, he stepped in.
The room was small, only able to fit a single bed. He took two steps and reached the bedside, lowering his gaze to see a small lump under the thin blanket.
Looks like it had transformed again.
He gently lifted the blanket, and sure enough, a fluffy black ball the size of a palm was curled up, shivering slightly, looking like a black sesame dumpling at first glance.
The little kitten, not knowing if it was from fear or discomfort, was trembling in its sleep, the fluffy ball quivering pitifully.
Ning Yunyi sighed, gently picking up the little kitten. Sensing the familiar aura, the cub dependently snuggled against his palm without waking up.
Ning Yunyi noticed the little one was a bit feverish, opening his palm and infusing a wisp of spiritual energy, which dispersed the discomfort from the kitten’s body. The little one gradually stopped trembling, settling into a peaceful sleep.
Ning Yunyi placed it back under the blanket, exposing half of the small head, staring at it for a while before stepping out.
His stomach growled at this time, having consumed a lot of energy from beating up the people earlier. Ning Yunyi was hungry, directly going to the only table, where half a box of nutritional supplements was placed.
It was the only remaining sustenance for him and the cub for the next three days.
Half a year ago, the Ning family incident happened, and the original body fled to this trash planet with the cub, accompanied by a pursuer-turned-confidant who had defected from the family.
Until a week ago, this so-called good friend, having finally gained the original body’s trust, fled with all the valuable items and star coins.
Then came today’s coercion, and Ning Yunyi’s intentional probing, which had indeed confirmed his suspicion about this Mr. Xu.
Ning Yunyi picked up a nutritional supplement, remembering that this stuff wasn’t very tasty, but he was quite curious just how unpalatable it was.
He opened it while considering how to earn star coins in the next three days to move out of this damned place.
His wrist communicator currently showed 0 star coins, this dilapidated spaceship only had three days of rent left, and even if they didn’t leave, they would be kicked out.
Not to mention the lurking Mr. Xu.
As Ning Yunyi was thinking, the transparent interface appeared in front of his eyes, and at the same time, he took a big gulp of the nutritional supplement. A strange taste immediately filled his mouth, and Ning Yunyi’s face scrunched up.
What… is this?
He blocked his senses and forced the sticky nutritional supplement down, quickly taking out an apple from the space and taking a crisp bite.
It was only after finishing the entire apple that he felt the strange taste was suppressed.
Ning Yunyi looked unpleasantly at the remaining few tubes of nutritional supplements. Was this considered unpalatable? It was practically inedible.
He stared at the nutritional supplements thoughtfully, knowing how to earn star coins now.
If the cultivation world was a culinary desert, then the interstellar world was a food wasteland. As a member of a culinary family in his previous life, Ning Yunyi already had a plan for his first big fortune.
But before that, he needed to solve the problem of his and the cub’s sustenance.
Ning Yunyi’s wrist communicator was open, containing his identity ID and various accounts, but most were in a frozen state after leaving the main planet. Fortunately, the rest were still usable.
Now that the two of them were penniless, he couldn’t buy ready-made ingredients from the star network, so he could only take out the stored ingredients from his personal space.
Ning Yunyi stood in front of the only stove, but there were no pots, pans, or utensils, because the original body didn’t know how to cook at all. As a coddled young master of the Ning family, after the family incident, he had only thought of fleeing for his life, relying on nutritional supplements to get by.
Naturally, he had not stocked up on any kitchenware.
Ning Yunyi directly took out pots, pans, and various seasonings from the space, along with a few eggs, tomatoes, and some rice.
For the first meal, a simple tomato scrambled eggs with rice would do.
Ning Yunyi started the rice on high heat, adding a touch of spiritual energy to make the fire look ordinary but greatly shortening the cooking time.
He started another stove, heating up some oil. As the oil heated, he broke the eggs into the pan. The moment the eggs hit the pan, the fragrant aroma of fried eggs mixed with the oil, filling the dilapidated spaceship.
The egg liquid puffed up, the golden-yellow color shining brightly in the shabby environment. After frying both sides until golden-brown, he plated the eggs and set them aside, then quickly sautéed some minced garlic in the remaining oil before adding the chopped tomato pieces to stew down into a sauce.
He then poured the eggs back in, allowing them to soak up the tomato sauce, before plating and sprinkling some green onions on top. Perfection.
As Ning Yunyi carried the fragrant, enticing dish and turned around, he noticed the bedroom door had somehow opened.
At the half-open doorway, a completely black kitten cub stood dazedly, holding onto the doorframe, its large emerald eyes sparkling amidst the fluffy fur. Ning Yunyi’s eyes lit up.
His heart also fluttered with feathers, so adorable that it made his heart tremble. In this era, they actually had to train this cute kitten cub into the most lethal of interstellar blade?
