Chapter 32: Rescue part 1
As Ning Yunyi finished speaking his last two words, Anselm’s smile opposite him froze. His expression quickly returned to its gentle demeanor: “Sir, do you know where the last person who tried to do this in the Underground City is now?”
Ning Yunyi watched Anselm approach, his smile unchanged: “Where?”
Anselm’s smile chilled: “You’ll find out when you go down to join him.” He raised his hand to signal his men to seize Ning Yunyi, but his raised hand was suddenly gripped.
Almost instantly, Anselm’s expression shifted. Clearly, he hadn’t expected his earlier probe to be inaccurate. This person radiated the aura of an A-rank spiritual power user, yet his strength was definitely above Anselm’s. Otherwise, it would be impossible to control him with a single move, rendering him immobile and speechless.
Ning Yunyi’s smile grew brighter, his flamboyant red hair like a flame, seemingly ready to burn the person before him to ashes.
The people around the Underground City didn’t notice this corner, most busy handing over items to the guests who had won bids earlier. The young man who had won the first ancient compass was specifically instructed by the grand manager to be personally received. This was standard procedure; the grand manager usually used the reception as an excuse to investigate unfamiliar faces, determining if they were potential big clients. They only saw the grand manager talking to the young man with his back to them; it seemed like a pleasant conversation, as the young man appeared to be in a good mood.
Under the heavy gaze of this so-called ‘Young Master,’ Ning Yunyi took out a length of rope and methodically tied the immobile man’s hands firmly. He even had the leisure to ask back: “Do you know where the last person tied up by this Spirit-Lock Rope is now?”
This naturally wasn’t any rope that locked spiritual power; it was just an ordinary piece. It was merely a bluff to make the man afraid to act rashly.
Ning Yunyi answered his own question: “Oh, I forgot, you can’t speak. The Spirit-Lock Rope, well, it can lock your spiritual power. Once you activate your spiritual power, you’ll immediately suffer a backlash. Haven’t seen it before? This kind of high-tech is still in the practical stage; it’s normal you haven’t seen it. Maybe when you activate your spiritual power, you can go down and meet the last person who was tied up.”
Anselm frowned, not fooled, with a look that said, Do you think I’ll believe that?
Ning Yunyi maintained his smiling demeanor: “Double-S rank spiritual power, about to break through to 3S. You haven’t consumed a small amount of 3S-level energy crystals these days to enhance your spiritual power, have you?”
Anselm’s face finally changed drastically. Only someone with stronger spiritual power than him could see through his current true strength. Had the person in front of him investigated beforehand and known his spiritual power was a bluff, or… was he really a rare 3S spiritual power powerhouse? After all, there were only a few hundred people who reached 3S level in the entire First Star.
After doing all this, Ning Yunyi took out a small bionic toy bomb and stuffed it into Anselm’s hand, pulling open the safety ring, kindly reminding: “Hold tight. Once activated, it will explode immediately if it leaves your hands. Of course, only the people within close range will be blown up first.”
Anselm’s face darkened completely, glaring at Ning Yunyi with murderous intent. He swept a threatening glance over Ning Xiao Miao and the others behind him, as if saying, Aren’t you afraid of blowing up this small one too?
Ning Yunyi: “You can bet on whether I run fast with them or you die fast.”
Young Master Bai didn’t speak the whole time, putting on a profound expression. But inside, he was screaming Ahhh! His uncle was indeed his uncle, actually having such an awesome thing. But this thing was always controlled by the military; how did his uncle get it?
Anselm thought of Ning Yunyi’s possible ultra-high spiritual power, his Adam’s apple moved, and his eyes carried a request to talk.
Ning Yunyi, however, restrained his smile: “I’ll give you two choices now. First, I activate the bomb now, and you ascend on the spot; second, take us to see City Lord Xuan.”
Hearing the three words “City Lord Xuan,” surprise flashed in Anselm’s eyes. He frowned, obviously not expecting Ning Yunyi’s group to have come for City Lord Xuan.
Ning Yunyi watched his changing eyes and extended three fingers: “You have the time of three counts to consider. Choose the first one, blink once; choose the second one, blink twice. If you don’t choose after three counts, I’ll choose for you.”
Ning Yunyi finished speaking and started counting down without hesitation.
Because Anselm was first awed by Ning Yunyi’s strength, he didn’t dare bet on whether the thing he held in his hand could kill him. Finally, when the last count fell, he blinked desperately twice.
Ning Yunyi was in a good mood, meeting Anselm’s face which could no longer be described as dark: “You’d better not play tricks. If you lead the way wrong, I’ll finish you. I believe there are plenty of people in this Underground City who want to be this grand manager. It wasn’t easy for you to get City Lord Xuan and his confidants. You couldn’t do it alone, so there must be quite a few people who know City Lord Xuan’s whereabouts. Do you think someone would be very happy to say it for you and take this credit?”
After these words fell, Anselm’s little thoughts were completely extinguished. The reason those people submitted to him was not only because he claimed to be City Lord Xuan’s adopted son but also because he was the strongest in the entire Underground City, and he had a group of the most loyal subordinates.
However, thinking City Lord Xuan’s influence was gone and not trusting others, he let most of his own subordinates guard City Lord Xuan and the others. He thought the main city was his territory, but who knew someone would actually capture the leader first right in his territory and to his face?
Anselm’s expression changed again and again, and finally decided to take them out first and find an opportunity to get rid of them.
Ning Yunyi saw through his thoughts and didn’t say anything else, letting the Big Cat and Ning Xiao Miao clear the way at the front, with Young Master Bai following closely. Ning Yunyi walked alongside Anselm, letting Anselm express left or right turns by blinking.
The group smoothly exited the auction hall and walked out. The guards at the door saw Anselm and let them pass without any hesitation. Plus, they bowed respectfully, completely missing Anselm’s desperate blinking.
All the way out of the top floor and down the stairs, Anselm narrowed his eyes and had a thought. Just as he was about to lift his leg, something cold pressed against his side. He looked down, and his blood ran cold. Pressing against his waist was a gun, cold all over, emitting a life-claiming glint.
Ning Yunyi’s voice was pleasant, like chatting: “Do you think you’re faster, or my gun is faster? I wonder if a person of your level being turned into a sieve can find a high-level healer in time, or if your blood flows faster?”
Anselm took a deep breath, finally gritting his teeth in defeat, staring fixedly at Ning Yunyi. He didn’t understand why a situation that was long settled would suddenly reverse. If City Lord Xuan had ever mentioned he had such a powerful confidant under him, he would never have chosen to act.
He was unwilling. He had followed City Lord Xuan for so many years. He thought over the years it was tacitly accepted that he was City Lord Xuan’s adopted son and the future heir of the Underground City. When City Lord Xuan announced he was getting old and might not stay in the City Lord position much longer, wanting him to temporarily take the position of Vice City Lord, he was ecstatic, thinking his efforts finally paid off.
