Part 5
Seeing the little cub so familiar and excited, Young Master Bai proved his guess even more. “Brother, have you met Uncle Ning?”
The little cub nodded vigorously immediately. “Seen him!” Uncle came to see him whenever he was free. Cousin is so amazing; he didn’t recognize Uncle who didn’t show his face, but Cousin who hadn’t seen Uncle recognized him immediately!
The little guy was no longer anxious. He knew his father came back to find Uncle. Now that he found him, Father must have lots and lots to say to Uncle.
He is a good baby; he will wait obediently for Father and Uncle.
Seeing the little guy settle down immediately, Young Master Bai looked at the big cat and spread his hands. “Wow, you’re going to have another male master.”
The big cat stared at him faintly. For some reason, Young Master Bai shuddered.
Th-This is a fact. Even if it glares at him, it won’t have one less master. Didn’t you see how happy the little guy is? He definitely approves of this new family member.
Ning Xiao Miao looked upstairs expectantly, counting on his fingers when Uncle and Father would come down.
The big cat lay there, eyes closed, half-lying there, wondering what it was thinking, but obviously not in high spirits.
Ning Yunyi consumed half a box of jade before barely smoothing out Big Brother Ning’s spiritual sea, at least no immediate riot would occur, life temporarily safe.
Big Brother Ning’s injuries were too severe, plus frequently activating the strongest spiritual power, relying entirely on extraordinary willpower. If it were anyone else, they would have kicked the bucket long ago.
When Ning Yunyi withdrew his hand, not long after, Big Brother Ning slowly opened his eyes again.
First looking around warily, his gaze softened upon meeting Ning Yunyi’s worried look. “Did I scare you?”
He sat up. He thought he would feel a splitting headache as usual, but what followed was unprecedented relief.
He froze. “This…”
Not only was the spiritual disorder suppressed, but the situation was even much better than when he first woke up.
Ning Yunyi pursed his lips, unsure how to speak. His body was indeed the original body, but if he said he wasn’t the original body…
Fortunately, Big Brother Ning didn’t pursue it further. “I sense spiritual power on you. Is it… recently appeared?” Even more than that, there was healing ability.
It was also because of the spiritual power on him that he wasn’t so sure it was his little brother at first.
But thinking of what happened at home in the past half year, Big Brother Ning felt distressed and annoyed. It must be that while he was away, the little brother took the cub and encountered something that pushed him to desperation, accidentally stimulating spiritual power.
This situation had happened before; there were cases of sudden appearance later, just not many, and not this strong.
Big Brother Ning half-hugged Ning Yunyi’s shoulders. “Big Brother is sorry to you, causing you and the cub to suffer so much these months. If you don’t want to talk about what happened and the encounters in these months, Big Brother won’t ask. When you want to say it, tell Big Brother, okay?”
Ning Yunyi finally nodded. He couldn’t bear to leave the cub, nor was he sure if Big Brother Ning could accept the result of the original body’s death.
At least currently, this body was indeed the original body.
Ning Yunyi’s agreement relieved Big Brother Ning. He looked at Ning Yunyi’s hair with feigned ease. “Little Brother, what’s with your hair and eye color?”
He almost didn’t recognize him.
Ning Yunyi raised his hand to touch it, then looked at Big Brother Ning all in black and the black cloth still not removed. Thinking that since Big Brother Ning didn’t ask, he would know sooner or later, he didn’t hide it. “This is fake. Big Brother can also change a bit; no one will recognize you even face to face.”
Big Brother Ning indeed wanted to change; otherwise, hiding everywhere, he couldn’t rescue Father at all, and Mother’s situation also needed investigation.
Big Brother Ning nodded. “Then I’ll trouble Little Brother.”
Ning Yunyi hummed, then remembered something. “Big Brother, what exactly is your situation? Why was there sudden news of your betrayal and being wanted?”
Big Brother Ning gritted his teeth. “It’s the Third Prince.”
Ning Yunyi froze. “Third Prince? How is the royal family involved?”
Big Brother Ning briefly picked the key points. “Before my last battle, I inadvertently discovered that the Third Prince’s people announced the deaths of low-level half-beasts in the military due to war, but actually… locked them up. They seemed to be doing some research on those half-beasts. I just saw the tip of the iceberg, but they found me and thought I would speak out, so they didn’t stop and almost killed me during the last battle. At that time, I was seriously injured and luckily survived. They couldn’t find me, so they simply announced my betrayal of the military first, leading to the subsequent events.”
Ning Yunyi thought of the hunted Elias. “I probably guess what research they want to do; it should be related to extracting spiritual power.”
Big Brother Ning also thought of the auction house situation Elias told him. “Should investigate further.”
But first, find a way to see Father. Not knowing the situation after months inside, he feared Father had already met with foul play.
Ning Yunyi guessed his thoughts. “I just returned to the First Star not long ago. I came this time because Elder An and Elder Xun needed my help. I originally wanted to connect with the two families to expand contacts and see if I could go in to see Father.”
Big Brother Ning shook his head. “If you want to enter without exposing your identity, the clearance level is very high. Only one person can enter the secret base where Father is detained without identity verification, just with his identity magnetic card.”
Ning Yunyi: “Who is it?”
Big Brother Ning sighed. “Marshal Zong. Only he is an exception, able to enter and exit freely without clearance.”
Ning Yunyi looked over in surprise. “Then can we find a way to contact Marshal Zong? Maybe he will believe us.”
Big Brother Ning’s expression carried some melancholy. “Probably not. Marshal Zong… has been missing for a long time.” This wasn’t said to the public, but high-level military officials knew.
Ning Yunyi clearly hadn’t expected this point, frowning.
Ning Yunyi and Big Brother Ning chatted in the room for half an hour. Until dark, they planned to leave the Ning family and return to the Underground City first.
When the two walked out of the room, the two humans and one cat downstairs looked over in unison.
Young Master Bai’s eyes lit up even more, with a teasing look, even winking.
While leading Big Brother Ning down, Ning Yunyi raised an eyebrow. “Is your eye twitching?”
The little kitten had already run over thump thump thump. Arriving close, he hugged Ning Yunyi’s leg but curiously looked at Big Brother Ning, who was also looking at him motionless. “Is it… Uncle?”
Big Brother Ning squatted on one knee. “Cub.”
Ning Xiao Miao immediately rushed over, hugging his neck at once. The familiar feeling surged quickly, and the little guy’s eyes reddened instantly. “Wuwu, Uncle, you haven’t come to see the cub for a long time.”
Big Brother Ning also hugged the little guy tightly, patting his back gently. “Uncle’s fault; won’t happen again.”
The big and small were full of warmth. The big cat beside them flicked its tail inexplicably but made no sound.
Young Master Bai wiped the corners of his eyes with his sleeve, so moved. “Uncle, I’m really happy for you; finally reunited.”
Ning Yunyi looked over strangely. He didn’t say this was his brother, right?
Meeting Ning Yunyi’s puzzled gaze, Young Master Bai revealed an expression of “we all know.” Afraid Ning Yunyi wouldn’t understand, he pointed at Ning Yunyi, then at Big Brother Ning, and even made a heart shape with his hands in front of his chest.
Ning Yunyi finally understood what Young Master Bai misunderstood.
He endured it, but finally couldn’t hold back, revealing a smile to Young Master Bai that could be described as “kind.” “From this moment on, your braised pork rice… is gone.”
Young Master Bai’s smile froze on his face with a crack; the sky collapsed.
