Part 4
Why is Father looking at this person’s photo?
Hearing this, the big cat swished its tail and came over. Taking a closer look, it didn’t understand either.
Ning Yunyi rubbed his nose. “Someone I met once.”
It was indeed once, but because Duke Clay had left a deep impression on him, and he had observed him carefully to deliberately counter his flirtation, he recognized him immediately from his build.
On the other side, Duke Clay hadn’t wanted to come, but the more he thought about Mr. White’s words that day, the angrier he got.
That man had easily provoked his anger with a single sentence, turning his embarrassment into rage.
So he came to this F District underground city he had never visited before. He wanted to see just how delicious this barbecue and braised meat were to make Elder Tang and Dean Gu flock to it.
He brought a crowd of bodyguards, but changed his mind at the last minute. If it really was delicious, wouldn’t bringing a huge entourage and leaving with a huge entourage make Mr. White laugh at him even more?
Thus, the current scene occurred. Clay dismissed the others and disguised himself to join the queue.
At first, Clay didn’t think much of it, but as the aroma grew stronger, he subconsciously swallowed.
Especially as people ahead of him passed by holding boxes of braised meat, some even devouring it right in front of him.
He was so greedy he swallowed hard, forgetting who Mr. White even was.
Finally, it was his turn. Clay immediately swiped the card he had someone procure. “Five portions!”
Young Master Bai stood aside with his hands in his sleeves, eyeing this weirdo. His uncle said to ignore him, but was this guy blind?
Young Master Bai knocked on the glass.
Clay barely spared him a glance. “…Then one portion.”
Regardless of how many, he had to taste it first. He was dying of hunger.
Young Master Bai glanced at Elias. Elias quickly packed the last portion and handed it over.
Just as Clay took it, several people suddenly surged from behind, blocking him against the glass window and shouting at Young Master Bai and the others, “You run a black-hearted business! My brother bought your braised meat just now and died halfway home! How are you going to settle this?”
Young Master Bai had been waiting for troublemakers, but none had appeared these past days. Now that they were here, he was rubbing his fists, ready to call for the thugs.
But before he could speak, someone else acted first.
Clay’s eyes widened behind his sunglasses. He gritted his back teeth, watching the braised meat that was about to reach his mouth fly out because of the shove from behind.
It teetered on the edge of the glass counter for a moment before—Splat. It hit the floor.
Clay went mad. He felt he wouldn’t be okay for the rest of the day.
No, he wouldn’t be okay for the next month.
“My… braised meat…” A low voice, like a curse, drifted over slowly.
Young Master Bai even had time to glance at it, looking him up and down with pity: That’s tragic.
As a foodie, he could understand the mood right now. The desire to kill was probably there.
So, just as the troublemakers were about to continue, they saw the dusty man they had shoved against the glass window suddenly spin around violently. His sunglasses fell halfway down, hanging on his ear.
Revealing a pair of emerald eyes staring at them with maxed-out rage.
“You people! Deserve to die!” Clay roared. The commotion was so loud that the bodyguard team, who had been distracted by the aroma and scattered to queue for the Prince elsewhere, rushed in instantly.
The troublemakers didn’t even have time to react before they were crushed by martial prowess. Bang, bang, bang—all pressed to the floor.
The movements were uniform: one hand twisting the arm behind the back, one foot stepping on the face. Insult level: Maximum.
Clay’s hands trembled as he pointed at them, chest heaving with anger. “Whichever hand bumped me, chop that hand off.”
Young Master Bai and Elias were watching the show when they suddenly pressed back. Good heavens, chopping hands right off the bat?
Seeing the bodyguards drawing their broadswords, Young Master Bai remembered something and wailed, throwing himself against the glass. “Wait! Don’t chop yet!”
The troublemakers pinned on the ground were moved to tears. It really takes a colleague from the same district. They came to find fault, yet he pleads for them.
If they had known, they wouldn’t have come. With such fragrant braised meat, how much restraint did they need to utter such slander?
Clay glanced back. “Does your boss know you have such a bleeding heart?”
Young Master Bai pressed tightly against the glass but dared not go out. “Bleeding heart or not aside, if you want to chop hands or whatever, you can’t do it in our shop. How can we sell food after that?”
Good heavens, blood splattering the braised meat shop. Seeing the gravy later would make people imagine things, wouldn’t it?
Clay frowned.
Young Master Bai squeezed his face against the glass window. “If you do this, I’m calling my Uncle.”
Clay waved his hand, and the bodyguards immediately sheathed their swords. He stared at the people on the ground. “You dared to bump into this Prince’s braised meat. Speak. Who sent you to find trouble? Speak up, and keep your hands. Don’t speak, and this Prince will have them chopped off piece by piece.”
Young Master Bai silently retreated a few steps, sticking close to Elias.
The bodyguards drew their blades halfway in unison. “Offending Duke Clay is a capital crime.”
The words were naturally exaggerated, but effective.
Hearing the word “Duke,” the men’s legs went soft. They spilled everything about the instigator like pouring beans.
They belonged to the other three underground cities. Business in the West City had been too good recently, attracting more than half the people from F District. The other three cities had dismal business, so they had crooked ideas.
They thought if they succeeded, they might get a share of the pie. If the West City begged for a partnership, they would pull these guys out to explain later.
The onlookers who hadn’t left yet clicked their tongues, cursing the other three cities thoroughly.
Good heavens, they finally found something to eat, and those guys wanted to hide it so other districts wouldn’t know.
Now look what happened. A Duke appeared in the braised meat shop.
Even if the shop was small, it would hit the Star Network. So they hid it for so long… does this mean they have to compete with other districts in the future?
This time, Clay’s bodyguards didn’t need to act. The angry diners rushed in and kicked the men senseless. “H-Help! Is there anyone kind enough to save us? We’ll die if you keep kicking!”
Clay ignored the people behind him. He stared at Young Master Bai with burning eyes.
Young Master Bai was very wary of this guy who wanted to chop off fingers at the drop of a hat. “W-What are you looking at?”
Clay pointed to the braised meat in the bucket. “It fell. Replace it.”
Young Master Bai blocked the food protectively. “That was the last portion.”
Clay narrowed his eyes. “But I was collateral damage. I didn’t get to eat the braised meat. I’m not leaving without a replacement.”
