Chapter 45: Intoxication part 1
Zong Hao had met City Lord White before. On the day they left the Garbage Star, City Lord White had personally delivered Young Master Bai into Ning Yunyi’s hands.
At that time, Zong Hao’s attention had been entirely focused on this Young Master Bai who would be traveling with them.
He had only spared a casual glance at City Lord White, remembering him merely as a refined-looking middle-aged man.
Zong Hao couldn’t even clearly recall City Lord White’s features now. But at this moment, watching City Lord White with his arm around Young Master Bai, turning his head to say something to Ning Yunyi, Zong Hao froze.
The castle doors were wide open. As the group entered against the light, the halo dissolved their features into shadows, making them indistinct.
But that gray fur hat, the bearded face, and even the way his eyes crinkled with a smile when he turned his head—it was exactly as it was in his memories.
Zong Hao thought he had forgotten, but seeing it now, the aura around him turned heavy.
Over thirty years ago, he had sent people to investigate this man. The man had seemingly vanished completely from the Capital Star, as if he had never existed.
Zong Hao clearly remembered meeting this man once at his adopted sister’s home.
At the time, he didn’t know this was his sister’s lover. Whether in appearance or in the unspoken background that couldn’t be revealed to outsiders, the man didn’t seem worthy of her.
The only time he saw this man was several years after his sister had come of age and moved out of the Zong family home. Back then, Zong Hao didn’t understand why she wanted to leave the family, nor was he aware of the private resentment his other brothers held toward her. He had gone there to persuade her to return.
Following the address to the alley entrance, he looked up and saw this man turning his face, smiling and saying something to his sister.
It was the first time he had seen his sister smile with such gentleness, her eyes full of tenderness.
Soon, his sister and the man noticed his arrival. The man gave Zong Hao a quick glance, whispered something hurriedly, and left in the other direction.
Later, naturally, he failed to persuade his sister to return.
It wasn’t until just before his sister eventually went to the battlefield where she would meet her end that he found her again. He didn’t want her to go; it was too dangerous.
But his sister shook her head. Her expression held a mix of helplessness and determination he didn’t understand at the time. She said that if she returned with military merits this time, she would retire.
It was also then that she smiled and told him she had a lover. If she retired, he would soon be drinking at their wedding.
At that moment, Zong Hao subconsciously recalled the scene he had witnessed that day and asked about it. He received his sister’s confirmation.
But later, his sister never returned from the battlefield.
And this so-called lover vanished from the Capital Star, never showing his face again. He didn’t even attend her funeral.
Zong Hao didn’t understand back then. They knew each other, understood each other, and loved each other—how could he bear not to send her off on her final journey?
Did he not want to know who had harmed her?
Zong Hao had even suspected that the man had approached his sister intentionally, perhaps to find her weakness and eliminate her.
But no matter how much he guessed, the man had simply disappeared into thin air. Coupled with the fact that he didn’t even know the man’s name, investigating was incredibly difficult.
After so many years, Zong Hao thought he had forgotten. Seeing the man appear before his eyes again, his beast eyes grew dark.
As City Lord White entered, he inexplicably shivered. “Brother? The air conditioning in here is a bit strong, huh?” The chill gave him a jolt; anyone else would have thought they were being targeted by a predator.
Hearing City Lord White speak, Zong Hao instantly connected his identity.
The father of that rabbit, Young Master Bai. It was City Lord White who had sent Young Master Bai to them back then.
At that time, the man hadn’t been dressed like this. But now… was he deliberately disguised like this?
If so, had he also been in disguise when he was with his sister all those years ago?
Young Master Bai was this man’s son. According to what Young Master Bai had previously revealed, he was definitely over thirty years old.
If one pushed the timeline back two or three years, didn’t that mean this child was born while the man was with his sister?
City Lord White put down the two suitcases, finally took off his fur hat, and glanced at Young Master Bai. He looked him up and down, unable to bear the sight. “Ah Cheng, you… how much of your Uncle’s food have you eaten? How did you get so… dudu?”
Young Master Bai was just enjoying the father-son bonding moment, deeply moved. His father had said he wouldn’t come for six months, yet here he was so soon. It was touching.
And the result… “Old White! Are you trying to say ‘chubby’ (fat-dudu)? Is that how you talk about your own cub?”
City Lord White looked innocent. “I didn’t say the ‘fat’ word.”
He was afraid his son would bristle.
Young Master Bai immediately covered his face, pretending to be heartbroken, and threw himself toward Ning Xiaomiao, who was covering his mouth and giggling nearby. Realizing he might knock the little guy over, he shifted direction to pounce on the much larger Big Cat.
As a result, the Big Cat stepped aside without mercy, even giving him a ghostly stare.
That look was no different from daggers raining down.
Young Master Bai clutched his chest. “You… you have no heart! We’ve lived together for so long, Big Cat, how could you dodge? Am I not your Master’s eldest nephew anymore?”
Thinking of City Lord White’s past actions, the fact that Zong Hao didn’t raise a paw was already him sparing the innocent.
Young Master Bai could only wipe away non-existent tears and turn back to glare at the culprit. “Alright, Old White. Don’t think that just because you made a special trip to surprise me, I’ll forgive you for calling me fat.”
City Lord White chuckled. “Not fat, not fat. My bunny brat is the best behaved. Being a bit chubby means you’re healthy.”
Only then was Young Master Bai satisfied. “Then I forgive you.”
City Lord White pulled off his fake beard as well. “I wanted to give you a surprise, but I almost thought my Brother was suddenly getting married. Gave me a fright.”
The surprise failed and nearly turned into a shock.
Young Master Bai hadn’t seen his father in a long time. Though he didn’t say it, he missed him. He stepped forward, fishing for compliments. “Old White, why did you run over here early this time?” Did you miss your old son?
But the next moment, he heard City Lord White sigh. “I heard on the Garbage Star that something might have happened to Marshal Zong… I hurriedly booked a ticket and ran over, afraid I’d be too late. Turns out, as soon as I got off the spaceship, I learned it was a misunderstanding. Marshal Zong is fine.”
Since he was already here, he figured he might as well see his bunny brat.
Young Master Bai clutched his chest and swayed. “You… heartless man. It was actually for an outsider? Am I not your most beloved rabbit son anymore?”
Currently, the only people in the castle were the Ning father and son, the White father and son, plus a big cat. City Lord White didn’t hide anything.
Brother Ning was already in the know anyway. Since Ah Cheng had arrived at the Capital Star, he had to find a way to pay respects.
City Lord White gently patted Young Master Bai’s significantly rounder face. “Don’t talk nonsense. Marshal Zong isn’t an outsider.”
Nearby, Zong Hao frowned as Young Master Bai repeatedly mentioned the word “rabbit.” Because Young Master Bai had been in human form these past few days, Zong Hao had almost forgotten that this rabbit was also a half-beastman.
His beast form was a rabbit.
