Chapter 61: Peak State part 1
Reaching the door of the small building, the Young City Lord shouted once before grandly flinging the door open.
“Ta-da! Uncle, let me see if youāve secretly prepared a surprise for me!”
As the door opened, the Young City Lord immediately smelled a fragrance that shot straight to his head. He hadn’t eaten his uncleās big feasts in a while and was incredibly hungry.
But in the next moment, he saw a strange lady sitting in the hall beside his uncle. She was staring blankly in his direction, her eyes red, and her pale face was trembling slightly with emotion.
The Young City Lord immediately grew serious. There are guests? Oh no, did I just embarrass my uncle?
He immediately looked at Ning Yunyi. “Uncle, thereās a guest?”
His tone was cautious, and he couldn’t help but steal another glance. For some reason, he felt that the way this lady looked at him was very strangeāit was a mix of… excitement, guilt, longing, and all sorts of emotions.
That emotion was so intense that even from this distance, he could clearly feel it.
He couldn’t help but look again, wondering why she was looking at him that way?
Looking closely, she even looked a bit familiar, as if he had seen her somewhere.
The Young City Lord hadn’t seen many photos of his biological mother. Knowing she was gone, City Lord Bai rarely mentioned her to avoid making the boy sad, only showing him photos when he was very small.
Later, because of his shifter status and poor health, he wasn’t shown them much at all. In fact, before coming to Capital Planet, he hadn’t even known her true identity.
Before Ning Yunyi could answer, City Lord Bai, who had followed closely behind, looked up. He was about to tell his son not to be so rowdy, but when he saw the scene ahead, he stood frozen in place with the box in his arms, unable to say a word for a long time.
He thought his eyes were playing tricks on him. Otherwise, why did it feel like he was dreaming? Why did it seem like he saw…
Clatter! The box he was holding slipped from his arms as he took a dazed step forward. It hit the bridge of his foot, but he didn’t even react. He just walked straight ahead, only to stop halfway.
He didn’t dare walk further, afraid this was only a dream. After so many years, even though the person before him had grey hair and a thin, haggard face, he could never forget that face in his life…
Countless times in his dreams, he thought he would surely see her, but every time he woke up in disappointment.
He thought her heart was so cruel; why didn’t she ever appear in his dreams, even once?
Now that he truly saw her appearing alive before him, his eyes turned red. He quickly wiped his face with his sleeve and tried to sound calm as he spoke. “Little Brother Bai, how can I ever thank you? Where did you find such high-tech that it could restore A-Yunās image so vividly…”
At this point, he couldn’t stop a tear from falling. He hurriedly wiped it and tried to smile, only to see the figure who had been sitting stand up and walk toward him. Her eyes were also filled with tears as she called out, “Bai Qin.”
City Lord Baiās heart felt a pang. Waa, even the voice is so similar…
Even now, he didn’t dare believe in the possibility that Lady Zong was still alive. After all, she had been gone for so many years, so he didn’t dare think in that direction.
He just stood there with hot tears, watching the person get closer. She was a bit thin and her hair was grey; that wasn’t like his A-Yun. How could his A-Yun have grown old like him?
As she approached, his fingers trembled as he tried to touch her, but he was afraid this was just a reflection in the water that would vanish at a touch. In the next moment, he saw the image of the woman stop just a step away… then pass him and walk to his son.
The Young City Lord was still dazed. Old Bai knows this lady?
Hearing Old Bai talk about a restored image, he had a premonition. Was this what his biological mother looked like?
Waa, is high-tech this amazing? It can simulate an image so realistically?
Lady Zongās eyes were filled with tears. During all those years of imprisonment, these three were the ones she missed most.
A-Hao, Bai Qin, and this child she had hardly seen after giving birth…
It was she who had failed him. He carried her genes and was a shifter, but she hadn’t expected human hearts to be so evil. She thought she had the power to protect them, yet she hadn’t even been able to see him one last time. This separation had lasted over thirty years.
Lady Zong reached out and touched the Young City Lordās rounded face. Because he had been protected so well by City Lord Bai and was so simple-minded, his eyes were as clear as they were when he was a boy. He looked a lot like the version of him she had imagined growing up. She lightly pinched his cheek and tried to speak, but tears wouldn’t stop falling.
The Young City Lord didn’t dare move or dodge. Seeing her cry, he couldn’t help but start crying too. He couldn’t say why; he could only look at City Lord Bai pleadingly. “Old Bai, why does the image… have warmth? Boohoo, I don’t dare move…”
City Lord Bai had recovered by now. He rubbed his eyes vigorously and suddenly burst into a smile, then covered his eyes and started crying again. His erratic behavior made the Young City Lord panic. Finally, his brain worked a bit better, and he looked at Lady Zong abruptly. “Mom, youāre not dead?”
Lady Zong was both startled and delighted by that sudden “Mom.” She finally pulled the Young City Lord into her arms. “I’m not dead, I’m not dead. I was saved by Mr. Bai and the others. I’m back and I’m not leaving again!”
She had intended to leave with them and go into hiding on another planet after that final battle. She just hadn’t expected how fickle fate would be. This separation had lasted so many years. When she left, he couldn’t even speak, and in the blink of an eye, he had grown so big.
The Young City Lord was dumbfounded. He stayed there awkwardly in Lady Zongās arms until he finally realized something. His eyes blinked, his lips quirked, and he burst into a loud wail.
While crying, he looked at Ning Yunyi with teary eyes. “Uncle, Iām not dreaming, am I? My mother said sheās not dead…”
Ning Yunyiās eyes were also a bit stinging, and a smile touched his eyes. “Sheās not dead.”
The Young City Lord cried even harder. Perhaps feeling too embarrassed, he poof-ed into a white rabbit, burrowed out of his clothes, and jumped into Lady Zongās arms with a kick of his legs. He curled into a ball, his red eyes filled with grievance as he sobbed.
He had dreamed of this scene so many times. Other rabbits could act spoiled in their mothers’ arms, but he had no one.
Old Bai was also afraid something would happen to him and kept him locked in the castle. He knew it was for his own good and was obedient, but he still felt envious. He hadn’t expected… boohoo, his dream had come true.
City Lord Bai couldn’t stop wiping his tears, and Mrs. Ning also secretly wiped her eyes from a distance, yet she was happy for their reunion.
Ning Yunfeng and Professor Ning silently picked up the box and walked aside, waiting for the familyās emotions to settle.
After a good cry, the Young City Lord was too embarrassed to change back, so he stayed in Lady Zongās arms as they moved to the side.
City Lord Bai sat right next to Lady Zong. After his good cry, he couldn’t stop staring at her and grinning foolishly. Every time she looked over, he would sit up straight and try to act serious, secretly smoothing his suit. He was incredibly grateful to his “little brother Bai” for making him wear his best clothes today.
He touched his hair, wondering if heād grown old. His A-Yun was as beautiful as ever.
Ning Yunyi had anticipated that the family would have a lot to say, so he had prepared two tables.
One was set downstairs, and the other was sent directly upstairs. Lady Zong also wanted to know about the experiences of City Lord Bai and their son over the years, so she took the “mama’s boy” rabbit and the family of three upstairs.
