Chapter 8: To Think Someone Could Be So Arrogant
Cicadas chirped through the long summer, and sunlight bathed the verdant green leaves.
The light filtered through the greenery, slowly illuminating the faces of the cultivation disciples inside the wooden house. Combined with their earnest expressions as they listened to the teacher, the scene appeared exceptionally vibrant.
“I presume everyone has already mastered sword flight.”
The speaker was Mr. Wang, the instructor for this session. He spoke with a beaming smile, his features kind and benevolent.
“What we are teaching today is—how to fly when your Life-Bound Artifact is not by your side.”
At their current cultivation level, they required their Life-Bound Artifacts for sword flight. How were they supposed to fly without them?
Upon hearing this, everyone’s curiosity was instantly piqued, and they perked up to watch attentively.
Mr. Wang, having taught for many years, had firmly grasped the disciples’ psychology. Knowing he had sufficiently whetted their appetites, he began the main event.
He first carefully explained the precautions based on past experience, then proceeded to demonstrate.
Mr. Wang brought two fingers of one hand together, channeling a steady stream of spiritual power from his fingertips. His other hand formed a complex hand seal, and without borrowing his sword, his entire body rose into the air.
The surrounding disciples praised this magical sight one after another, unable to hide the looks of astonishment on their faces.
Afterward, he slowly retracted his spiritual power and landed on the ground. Scanning the faces of all the disciples present, he asked with an encouraging tone, “Does anyone want to try?”
Mr. Wang possessed deep experience. Unlike other teachers, all disciples listened during his classes, and there was no lack of outstanding individuals among them.
These clever disciples had likely grasped the concept already. They rubbed their hands in anticipation, eager to give it a try.
However, the friendly atmosphere was broken by an arrogant voice.
“I heard Junior Brother Guan was selected to go to the Tianyuan Secret Realm. I assume everyone knows that those who went to such places in the past were all disciples with exceptional talent…”
The speaker was a youth with a fleshy face. As he spoke, he looked contemptuously at the youth in the distance.
The youth he targeted possessed excellent looks; his eyes were long and slender, and atop his head sat two furry ears. His facial features were upright and dashing.
The fleshy-faced youth shifted his gaze, paused for a moment, then scoffed coldly before continuing, “Although Junior Brother Guan is usually low-key, since he can go to the Tianyuan Secret Realm, he must surely have surpassing qualities.”
This arrogant person was none other than the Second Elder’s eldest nephew, Ye Yu.
In the past, he always relied on the Second Elder’s power within the sect to bully disciples who had no background but good talent.
As a member of the Demon Race, Guan Yuce was not good with words and had no close friends, keeping a low profile.
Reasonably speaking, these two should not have had any grievances.
It was just that Ye Yu had a poor style of conduct and harbored many wicked ideas. He had previously secured a spot relying on the Second Elder, but Ming Ji had given the spots to Guan Yuce and Wei Zixi instead, causing resentment to breed in his heart.
He ground his teeth in anger, secretly thinking: It’s nothing more than relying on connections with Ming Ji. He can’t touch Wei Zixi, the final disciple, but how much skill can that background-less Demon really have?
Hearing these words, Mr. Wang frowned. He glanced at Guan Yuce, then clasped his hands behind his back.
“Ye Yu, fellow disciples should be friendly. Why are you making things difficult for him?”
“Replying to Sir, this student was merely curious and did not intend to make things difficult for Junior Brother Guan.”
Although Ye Yu denied it verbally, the words he spat out were piercing, one after another. “Junior Brother Guan hesitates to try; could it be he obtained the quota for the Secret Realm through the back door?”
Hearing these harsh words, Guan Yuce’s gaze instinctively darkened. The fluffy fox ears on his head, which had been drooping, stood erect as he went on alert against the person before him.
Before Guan Yuce could open his mouth to retort, Mr. Wang could no longer listen.
Although he knew Ye Yu was tyrannical, he was annoyed that as a teaching instructor, he currently had no way to discipline him further.
Moreover, Ye Yu had never openly caused trouble in class before, so most of the time, there was nothing to be done.
But now, Ye Yu was not only openly provoking a classmate in class but also insinuating things both openly and secretly. This caused Mr. Wang’s expression to turn a few degrees colder.
Just as he was about to say something to reprimand him, another person spoke up before him.
“Senior Brother Ye, could it be that because you failed to go to the Secret Realm, you are now making things particularly difficult for Senior Brother Guan?”
The speaker was not Guan Yuce, the party involved, but Wei Zixi.
He was merely a bystander, yet he was willing to help defuse the situation.
Wei Zixi’s brows raised slightly, looking as if he were unaware that his words would stab fiercely into the other’s heart.
Wei Zixi slowly raised his eyes, looking at Ye Yu, whose face was full of resentment, and spoke nonchalantly, “Speaking of which, it was also luck. I originally did not have this spot either. Perhaps due to Senior Brother Ye’s temperament, the Elders decided Senior Brother Guan and I would replace the two Senior Brother Yes.”
His tone shifted, his voice carrying a hint of a smile. “Originally, we juniors shouldn’t know about such major sect matters, but Uncle Master Liu feared mistakes might occur, so he informed me in advance and asked me to take this spot.”
“But why is Senior Brother Ye making things difficult for Senior Brother Guan now? Could it be…”
Although Wei Zixi didn’t finish his sentence, everyone around him formed their own thoughts.
When the crowd looked at Ye Yu, their expressions held disdain. Their eyes clearly revealed that they saw him as a typical villain who bullied the weak and feared the strong.
Perhaps because they stood too close, or because they were brothers, some people cast their gazes toward another youth.
The other youth, who had been dragged into this against his will, had fairly regular features. Seeing everyone’s gazes, he felt somewhat ashamed.
This youth was Ye Yu’s biological younger brother, Ye Ming. He truly felt he was extremely innocent.
Ye Ming felt that he always acted cautiously. Even if he was truly dissatisfied with being replaced, he wouldn’t actively pick a fight.
And clearly, he hadn’t done anything just now.
But suddenly getting dragged into it, Ye Ming could only bite the bullet and smooth things over for his brother.
“Junior Brother Wei jests. My elder brother harbored no other intentions; he was merely curious if Junior Brother Guan had comprehended the lesson.”
Hearing this, Ye Yu let out a cold snort and glared at Ye Ming, seemingly annoyed that Ye Ming hadn’t stood up to speak for him earlier.
[Ye Ming, who got shot while lying down: I’m behaving now, please let me off.]
“So that is how it is.” Wei Zixi let out a meaningful “Oh,” and the corners of his mouth slowly hooked up into an imperceptible smile.
He first imitated Mr. Wang’s movements, and once he rose into the air for flight, he deliberately glanced at Ye Yu, who was fuming with rage.
“Senior Brother Ye, do you still have any objections now?”
