Chapter 11: Disguise
Gu Yunsheng’s heart beat violently, as if it would jump out of his throat the next second.
He hurriedly pulled the diary closer to his chest and used the curtains to cover his upper body, just like hiding under the covers to read comics as a child. Out of the corner of his eye, his gaze was nailed to the ward door—if someone came in now and saw this diary, he would be…
But the contents of the diary strongly attracted Gu Yunsheng to read on. “They say I am a child abandoned by God, a monster from the abyss…”
He continued flipping through. The intermittent diary entries recorded the author’s mental journey from fear to despair.
The owner of the diary called himself “Sailuo” (Cello), possessing a mysterious power to control water currents, but because of this, he was hunted and imprisoned by humans.
They locked him in a windowless laboratory, drawing blood intermittently and studying his abilities, trying to turn him into an unfeeling killing weapon. “Today they injected me with a new drug. My body burns like fire, and my consciousness is blurring…”
“Today I saw that woman, that middle-aged woman who sent me to the hospital! She stood right in front of this hospital bed, watching everything coldly, without a trace of pity in her eyes…”
“I want to tell Ling Xi so much that I am here, but…”
The diary stopped abruptly here. The following content had been torn out, leaving a few shocking bloodstains, as if silently accusing the terror and despair that had once occurred here.
Gu Yunsheng closed the notebook, a chill shooting from the soles of his feet to the top of his head.

Gu Yunsheng bit his lower lip, suppressing his inner fear. He hid the diary inside the cotton lining under the hospital bed. He walked cautiously to the door and pressed his ear against it, listening carefully to the movement in the corridor.
“The experiment failed again!” A rough voice came from a distance. “That merman is dying. Notify the President to send another one quickly!”
“The wind has been tight lately. The Sea Territory Security is checking strictly… Besides, the ship capturing mermen in the sea went missing not long ago…” another voice whispered.
“Cut the crap! Do you dare defy the President’s orders? Go do it!”
Footsteps in the corridor were getting closer. Gu Yunsheng hurriedly dodged into the adjacent bathroom, his heart pounding wildly as if to break through his chest.
“How is the ‘goods’ in 302?” A female voice asked, her tone carrying undisguised greed and coldness.
“The doctor says the situation isn’t optimistic. He probably won’t last much longer,” another voice said fawningly. “President, do you think we should…”
“Useless trash!” The low voice carried ruthlessness. “I spent a fortune getting him from the sea, and it’s only been a few days…”
“President, please calm your anger. The Sea Territory Security is investigating closely. I heard a bounty hunter named Gu something intervened, and now there’s a net-wide warrant…”
“Hmph, a bounty hunter named Gu? How long has he been wanted? And you can’t find one person?” The low voice was full of disdain. “Release the news. Say I have top-quality goods here. I’m not afraid he won’t take the bait!”
“Yes, yes, yes, the President is wise!”
Gu Yunsheng hid in the bathroom, listening to their conversation. His face was pale, his hands and feet ice-cold.
Wanted bounty hunter?
Wasn’t the identity of the original owner displayed by the System earlier a bounty hunter?
And wasn’t he currently using the original owner’s body?
Gu Yunsheng’s brain spun rapidly, connecting all the information.
So, the original owner knew the secret of this hospital, which was why he was wanted?
He suddenly remembered that on his first day of transmigration, he was in that turbulent sea area. Could it be that the original owner fled to the seaside to avoid pursuit?
He instantly felt a wave of retrospective fear. His heart felt tightly gripped, and his breathing became rapid. Did the original owner fail to escape in the end and drown by the sea?
He tried hard to calm his panicked emotions. A thought gradually became clear: Did I transmigrate just in time to give this body new life and continue the mission?
“System, come out and say something…” Gu Yunsheng bit his lip hard, almost drawing blood, desperately suppressing the tremor in his voice.
He stared dead at the door. Thump, thump. The footsteps were getting closer; every step felt like it was stomping on his heart!
“System! System! I beg you, help me!…”
The only response was boundless silence and despair.
The door opened. A nurse walked in holding a tray with a… suppressor…
“301, time for your suppressor injection.” The nurse walked in expressionlessly. With a forgettable face, she looked around. Seeing no one on the bed, her gaze landed on the ajar bathroom door, and she approached suspiciously.
Hearing the nurse’s voice getting closer, Gu Yunsheng’s heart jumped violently, almost popping out of his throat. He held his breath and pressed the flush button on the toilet.
The sound of rushing water echoed in the small space, masking Gu Yunsheng’s rapid heartbeat. He braced his hands on the sink, tried to look natural, then opened the door and walked out with feigned calm.
“Nurse, why do I need a suppressor injection?” Gu Yunsheng asked, pretending to be calm, though his gaze involuntarily dodged hers.
The nurse placed the tray on the bedside table and explained faintly, “When you were in a coma yesterday, your glands were swollen and released a lot of pheromones.”
She continued, “Giving you a shot of suppressor will effectively control your heat cycle.”
Gu Yunsheng paused, instinctively touching his neck to retort, “But… but I’m fine now…”
The nurse clearly doubted Gu Yunsheng’s explanation. She looked the young man up and down. “Really fine? Swollen glands are no small matter. If it triggers a pheromone disorder, it’s not a joke.”
The nurse’s tone was firm. “Pull your collar down. Let me see your neck.”
Gu Yunsheng subconsciously took a step back. He clutched his collar tightly, his heart full of resistance. You must be joking. He was a grown man; how could he let a strange woman look at him? Even just the neck—especially since he had been marked by Ling Xi.
“Nurse, I’m really fine. Don’t I know my own body?” Gu Yunsheng waved his hands hurriedly, his tone carrying a pleading note. “Look at me standing here, completely fine.”
He paused and made up a reason. “Yesterday, it was because I went to the beach alone to relax, accidentally got lost, and stumbled into a cave. I stayed inside all night, that’s why…” He deliberately left it unfinished, just glossing over it.
“I’m fine now, really. Look if you don’t believe me.” As he spoke, he purposely took two steps in front of the nurse to prove he really had no issues. “Can I be discharged today?” He asked cautiously, afraid the nurse would refuse.
“I heard when you were found unconscious in the cave, you were wearing only a small tank top?” The nurse looked Gu Yunsheng up and down, her eyes full of suspicion.
“You don’t look rich anywhere,” she sneered, her tone carrying a bit of mockery. “I think, at your age, you probably ran away from home, right?”
Gu Yunsheng felt exposed by the nurse’s words and panicked. He stammered, “I… I didn’t run away from home…”
“Not running away from home?” The nurse raised an eyebrow, her tone becoming even more biting. “Then were you kicked out by your family?”
She paused deliberately, then asked, “By the way, I still don’t know your name. What is it? Tell Big Sister, maybe I can help you.”
Gu Yunsheng was rendered speechless by the nurse’s aggressive tone. He lowered his head, not daring to look her in the eye. “Why aren’t you speaking? Haven’t thought of what to say?”
The nurse pressed on step by step. “Since yesterday, your family hasn’t come to see you. I think you were probably abandoned by your family, right?”
Gu Yunsheng suddenly raised his head, his eyes full of anger and humiliation. He gritted his teeth and growled low, “What is my name to you?”
“I said I didn’t run away from home, so I didn’t. Believe it or not!” He turned his face away, unwilling to look at the nurse’s contemptuous eyes again.
“Tsk, I say, for an Omega, you have quite a temper!” The nurse was angered by Gu Yunsheng’s attitude, and her tone became sharp.
Gu Yunsheng complained secretly in his heart. He could see that this nurse wouldn’t listen to reason. If he didn’t say something soon, let alone being discharged today, he might be dragged to the police station.
He had a sudden idea and made up a name: “My name is… Xue Yang. I came to seek refuge with relatives, but I got lost and couldn’t contact them.”
“Xue Yang, is it?” The nurse crossed her arms, clearly disbelieving his story. “Then tell me, where do your relatives live? What are their names? So I can help you contact them.”
Gu Yunsheng, pushed by the nurse’s sharp tone, felt his eyes redden, almost shedding tears. In his heart, he cursed Ling Xi thoroughly.
It’s all that damn merman’s fault. How did I end up in this state, being interrogated by a nurse in a shady hospital!
His mind raced, and a glint of cunning flashed in his eyes.
He swayed, held onto the edge of the bed, and panted weakly, “I… I’m dizzy… My relatives… live in the Haitian District… The address… I don’t remember…”
He deliberately spoke intermittently. Before his voice faded, he collapsed onto the bed headfirst, secretly observing the nurse’s reaction. There was no genuine pain in his eyes, only calculating light.
The nurse obviously didn’t buy it. She sneered, “Don’t play this game with me! I think you want to make up a fake address to take the opportunity to escape, right?”
