Chapter 12: When Love Meets Experiments?
“I… I really…” Gu Yunsheng pretended to defend himself feebly, but internally he was screaming frantically, “System! Help! If you don’t act now, your host is going to be sent to the police station!”

“You… how did you know?” The nurse’s voice trembled slightly, a flash of surprise in her eyes.
Gu Yunsheng watched the nurse’s expression, his heart skipping a beat. Did I really hit the jackpot with a blind guess?
He tried hard to maintain his weak expression and probed cautiously, “I… I vaguely remember… that relative of mine… seemed to have said… someone used to… save… a merman…”

Gu Yunsheng was shaken. 7989001? Susceptible period? Could it be… could he be the owner of the diary, that captured merman, Sailuo?

Taking advantage of the fading footsteps of the doctor and nurse, Gu Yunsheng quietly slipped out of the ward.
The corridor was empty. Only the pale lights cast long shadows on the walls, appearing particularly eerie and terrifying.
He walked in the direction the doctor and nurse had gone.
The deeper he went, the more the air was filled with a faint smell of blood and an indescribable strange odor, making him feel waves of unease.
At the end of the corridor, a heavy iron door was tightly closed. The number “7989001” was impressively printed on it.

“Hold him down! Quick! Give him a sedative!” The doctor’s voice revealed panic.
Gu Yunsheng steadied his emotions, lowered his body, and tiptoed close to the iron door.
He pressed against the cold metal, trying to hear the activity inside clearly.
However, aside from the chaotic footsteps of the doctors and nurses and the chilling roars, he couldn’t hear anything else.
He paced anxiously, racking his brains for a plan.
Suddenly, a bold idea flashed in his mind.
He ran to the fire hydrant at the end of the corridor, picked up the heavy fire axe, wrapped it in a bedsheet, and swung it ruthlessly at the door lock without hesitation.
Bang— A muffled sound echoed in the empty corridor, startling the silence.
Ignoring any security guards that might appear, Gu Yunsheng pushed open the iron door with force. A thick smell of blood mixed with disinfectant rushed at his face, making his stomach churn.
In the room, several doctors and nurses in white coats were frantically holding down a “merman” lying on the operating table.
He had the robust upper body of a human male, with smooth, beautiful muscle lines and skin so pale it was almost transparent, as if it would shatter at a touch.
But his lower body was a huge fish tail covered in golden scales, reflecting cold light under the pale lamps.
Gu Yunsheng’s heart contracted violently, and an inexplicable fear instantly spread through his body.
Did they catch Ling Xi?
He suppressed his unease and looked closer, only to realize that the fish tail was dazzling gold, not Ling Xi’s deep sea blue.
He breathed a secret sigh of relief, but the doubts in his heart deepened.
Both hands were firmly locked to the operating table by thick iron chains. Bright red blood flowed slowly down the cold metal links.
The merman struggled in pain. His golden fish tail slapped the floor with a piercing sound due to his violent twisting, as if he would break free the next second and turn this cold laboratory upside down. He roared, his voice hoarse but strangely carrying an ethereal tone, filled with despair and mourning from the deep sea, pounding against Gu Yunsheng’s heart beat by beat.
“Sailuo! Calm down! This is for your own good!”
A doctor shouted frantically at the merman. However, the only response was even crazier struggles and roars.
Sailuo… is it really the Sailuo written about in the diary?
Gu Yunsheng took half a step back in disbelief. Those handwriting styles in the diary—sometimes childish, sometimes dashing—kept floating in his mind.
He blinked hard, as if to dispel the fog before his eyes. His nose was filled with disinfectant and blood, making his stomach churn.
The painful appearance of the merman before him overlapped constantly with the carefree figure from the diary, making him almost unable to breathe. It felt like a giant rock was pressing on his chest.
And that nurse—just moments ago claiming she loved him—was now standing expressionlessly to the side, allowing Sailuo to struggle in pain.
Her eyes were cold, as if she were looking at an insignificant experimental subject, not the person she loved deeply.
Gu Yunsheng’s heart sank. An indescribable anger and disgust welled up.
What kind of bullshit love is this?
Or is there some deeper secret between this nurse and this merman named Sailuo?
