Chapter 2: Forming a Contract with a Merman?
The intense pressure left Gu Yunsheng breathless. His legs went weak, and he wished he could turn invisible right then and there.
“W-What is this thing…” Gu Yunsheng’s voice trembled, but his eyes couldn’t leave the creature before him.
This merman exuded a cold oppression from head to tail. Those deep blue eyes seemed capable of piercing through all disguises, striking straight at the soul, reminding him of the fear of being dominated by his homeroom teacher as a child.
The merman spoke slowly. His voice was low and husky, as if he hadn’t spoken in a long time, or perhaps he simply disdained wasting words on a weak human.
He spat out a single word, yet it was filled with undeniable pressure:
“Human.”
Gu Yunsheng stunned, his heart missing a beat. That voice… damnably magnetic, like a top-tier voice actor. Wait, this isn’t the time to think about that!
“Uh… yes, I am a person. A human,” Gu Yunsheng swallowed, answering nervously.
He tried not to look into those soul-stealing blue eyes, attempting to appear less cowardly.
The merman seemed interested in Gu Yunsheng’s answer. He leaned in slightly, his blue eyes locked tight on Gu Yunsheng, as if trying to see through him.
The immense pressure nearly suffocated Gu Yunsheng. He could even smell the scent of cold seawater on the merman, mixed with a trace of indescribable pheromones.
“Beautiful… Omega.” This time, the merman’s tone held a hint of amusement, as if he had discovered an interesting toy.
He extended a cold fingertip and gently stroked Gu Yunsheng’s cheek, like caressing a precious object, or perhaps sizing up a meal before eating it.
Gu Yunsheng went stiff, not daring to move a muscle. He could feel the cold touch of the merman’s finger and that gaze full of aggression, trapping him like an invisible net.
“W-What do you want to do…” Gu Yunsheng’s voice shook slightly. He wanted to retreat, but his body felt pinned in place, unable to move.
The merman didn’t answer. He simply lowered his head slightly, the tip of his cold nose brushing against Gu Yunsheng’s neck, sniffing for something.
“Mmh…”
Gu Yunsheng was terrified by this sudden intimacy, his scalp tingling. A strange, sweet fragrance drilled into his nose, making his head spin. This sensation… why was it damnably pleasant?
Wait, now is not the time for this! He pushed the merman with all his might, but found his strength was as laughable as a mayfly trying to shake a tree.
“You… what exactly do you want?” Gu Yunsheng forced himself to remain calm, trying to reason with this overlord of the sea, though internally he was panicking.
The merman didn’t speak. He just stared straight at him, that look as if beholding a treasure he was about to possess.
The next second, to Gu Yunsheng’s horror, the massive creature began to shrink. The huge fish tail transformed into human legs, and the smooth scales turned into honey-colored skin.
He… he actually turned into a normal man?!
Gu Yunsheng watched everything unfold with his jaw practically hitting the ground.
The man before him now had thick, seaweed-like blue hair plastered wetly to his shoulders. His face was breathtakingly handsome, especially those deep blue eyes which seemed to hold endless secrets, making one want to drown in them.
“You…” Gu Yunsheng opened his mouth but didn’t know what to say.
The man rose gracefully, walking with long legs to a reef where he sat down lazily. His fingers played lightly with the seawater as he began to hum an ancient, distant song.
The singing was deep and magnetic, like the sound of nature itself, entrancing Gu Yunsheng.
He had never heard such beautiful singing; it seemed to cleanse the soul, making one forget all troubles.
However, just as Gu Yunsheng was immersed in the melody, the cold mechanical voice rang in his mind again:
“Ding! Detected that the Host has entered a special plotline. Initiating System Binding sequence…”
“System? What System?” Startled by the sudden voice, Gu Yunsheng asked silently.
“This System is the ‘Deep Sadomasochistic Love’ System, designed to help the Host conquer various types of paranoid big shots and complete a love story of physical and emotional abuse,” the System explained emotionlessly.
“Hah? Deep Sadomasochistic Love? Are you sure you’re not joking?” Gu Yunsheng exploded. “I am a straight-as-steel man raised under the red flag! You want me to conquer some paranoid fish? And endure physical and emotional abuse? You must be dreaming!”
“Host please note: Once bound, the System cannot be unbound. Refusal to bind will result in termination,” the System’s voice remained cold and ruthless.
“I…” Gu Yunsheng was speechless. This damn System was basically forced buying and selling!
“Does the Host choose to bind the System?”
“Bind your ass! I’d rather be terminated than date some paranoid tycoon!” Gu Yunsheng roared in exasperation.
“Ding! Detected excessive emotional fluctuation from Host. Initiating mandatory binding sequence…”
“Hey! You…”
Before Gu Yunsheng could finish, a powerful suction force dragged him violently into a vortex of darkness.
As the world spun, his ears were filled with the roar of seawater rushing into his eardrums. His body was tossed about by the giant waves like a rag doll.
He tried to struggle, but it was futile.
Water poured into his mouth and nose pervasively; his lungs ached as if they were going to burst.
He instinctively tried to breathe, only to choke on more seawater, the feeling of suffocation intensifying.
His consciousness blurred. The world before him turned into illusory lights and shadows, and the sounds in his ears grew distant, finally returning to a dead silence.
Cold seawater flooded his lungs. Suffocation, like the claws of a beast, ruthlessly gripped Gu Yunsheng’s throat. He struggled in despair as the world faded.
Just when he thought he was going to die there, a cold hand suddenly clasped the back of his head, dragging him sharply downward.
Cold lips pressed against his without warning, tasting of salty sea but strangely carrying a hint of tenderness.
Gu Yunsheng’s eyes widened. In his blurred vision, that face—handsome to the point of being demonic—gradually became clear.
It was the merman! Didn’t he leave? Why come back to save the guy who almost skewered him into grilled fish?!
Before he could think, a warm breath was passed into his mouth, carrying a strange energy that instantly flowed through his limbs and bones.
The suffocating pain receded abruptly, replaced by an indescribable comfort, as if he were suspended in warm amniotic fluid, gently embraced.
He instinctively wanted to open his mouth to breathe, but the other party sensed his intent… domineeringly plundering his breath.
“Mmh…” Gu Yunsheng wanted to protest but couldn’t make a sound, forced to let the other take whatever he wanted.
The merman reluctantly left his lips. A trace of imperceptible pain flashed through his deep blue eyes. His fingertip gently brushed Gu Yunsheng’s lips, and a blue bead emitting a faint glow appeared at his fingertips.
That glow was all too familiar—it was the bead he had seen on the merman’s chest earlier!
The Mermaid Pearl (Jiaozhu). To the merman race, it was as important as a human heart. Losing it meant shortening one’s spiritual vitality.
“Are you crazy?!” Gu Yunsheng looked at the merman in disbelief, his voice trembling with shock. “You’re giving the Mermaid Pearl… to me?”
Before he could finish, the merman lowered his head and kissed him again. This time, it wasn’t to transfer oxygen, but to gently pry open his teeth and send the glowing pearl into his mouth.
“Mmh…” Gu Yunsheng’s eyes went wide. He tried to protest, but he felt the bead slide down his throat, finally resting in his chest, radiating waves of warm energy.
The next second, something even more shocking happened.
The originally freezing seawater now seemed to turn into oxygen-filled air, moving freely in and out of his lungs without a hint of suffocation.
He could actually breathe underwater!
