Chapter 29: Chapter Twenty-Eight â Deep Sea Confrontation
The undersea world was originally quiet and peaceful, filled with colorful corals and agile schools of fish.
However, this tranquility was ruthlessly torn apart by a sudden roaring sound.
Boomâ!
A massive submarine, like a steel beast from another world, arrogantly ripped through the sea surface. With a deafening roar, it intruded into this pure land.
The seawater churned violently. Panicked schools of fish fled in all directions, and even the colorful corals seemed to be trembling.
[Enemy attack!]
[Protect our home!]
Amidst the urgent alarm, a patrol squad bravely faced the steel beast.
It was a team composed of deep-sea warriors: Seahorse Knights clad in hard scale armor, holding sharp coral spears, like heavy cavalry of the seabed;
A group of Electric Eel Rangers, their bodies flickering with dangerous electrical light, ready to launch a fatal attack at any moment;
And giant jellyfish, waving venomous tentacles, forming an insurmountable defensive line.
“Get out of our home!” the patrol captain, riding a giant seahorse, roared, attempting to force the steel beast back.
However, what answered him was cold cannon fire.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Blinding white light pierced the seawater. Energy shells carrying the aura of destruction ruthlessly harvested lives.
Seahorse Knights who didn’t have time to dodge were blown to pieces. Electric Eel Rangers were knocked unconscious by the powerful shockwaves. The tentacles of the jellyfish warriors were blown off, and venomous liquid began to spread through the seawater…
“No!â” Gu Yunshengâs eyes nearly split from the strain, and his stomach churned.
He had never seen such a cruel sight. Those vibrant lives turned into fragments in an instant, dissipating into the seawater.
“Damned ‘Ouroboros’!” Ling Xiâs voice sounded as if it were dipped in ice. In his deep blue eyes, a terrifying rage surged.
The seawater around him churned violently, as if it would kick up a stormy wave at any moment.
The submarine was still approaching step by step. The pitch-black hull and cold steel made it look like a beast from the abyss, wanting to swallow all light.
And on the hull, that striking logoâan ancient symbol of a giant serpent coiled around a cross, devouring itselfâappeared incredibly evil at this moment, as if announcing destruction.
Gu Yunsheng could clearly feel the sky-high rage emanating from Ling Xi. It was a hatred that went deep into his marrow, as if he wanted to tear everything before him into pieces.
He had never seen Ling Xi so angry. He was like an enraged lion, ready to explode with world-destroying power at any moment.
“Mr. K…” Sailuo held a fish arrow, his face pale as he murmured to himself. That Ouroboros logo awakened his deepest fearsâthe cold operating table in the laboratory, the greedy gazes of the mad scientists, and the cold instruments plugged into his body… All the painful memories flooded his mind like a tide.
“King!” Sailuo looked up, his voice trembling as he looked at Ling Xi and Gu Yunsheng. “It… it’s Mr. K… That submarine belongs to Mr. K!”
Hearing this, the seawater around Ling Xi churned violently, but he quickly controlled his emotions. In his deep eyes, a terrifying coldness surged.
He grabbed Sailuoâs shoulder, his sharp nails almost piercing his skin, but his tone was exceptionally calm: “Calm down, Sailuo! Tell me, what exactly is going on?!”
“It’s Mr. K, I won’t mistake it! The logo on that submarine is Mr. Kâs!” Sailuo trembled in terror, speaking incoherently. “They… they modified the mermen… turned them into the killing machines they need… Lili… was a merman modified by them.”
“Wait,” Gu Yunsheng suddenly interrupted, a trace of unease flashing through his mind. “The Lili youâre talking aboutâis she that little nurse at the hospital?”
Sailuo turned to look at Gu Yunsheng, his eyes full of terror. “You, how do you know? Youâve seen Lili? No, impossible, she should be…”
“Iâve seen her, at the hospital,” Gu Yunshengâs voice trembled slightly. Liliâs sweet smile appeared in his mind.
“She was wearing a nurseâs uniform then and gave you an inhibitor…” He suddenly stopped, his pupils constricting abruptly. A terrifying thought flashed through his mind like lightning. Could it be that…
“Sailuo,” he suddenly grabbed Sailuoâs shoulder, his tone urgent. “Think carefully. Are you sure your body has really been fine lately? Is there anywhere uncomfortable? Do you feel anything abnormal?”
He was afraid Sailuo would end up exactly as he feared.
However, before Sailuo could answer, the roar of the submarine grew closer and closer. The deafening engine sound signaled that a disaster was about to descend.
The submarine descended like a steel beast, casting a suffocating shadow.
The seawater churned and grew murky. The huge propeller stirred the breath of death.
Gu Yunsheng felt a strong sense of oppression; his heart almost jumped out of his chest.
Sailuo and Ling Xi tightly grabbed his hands, shielding him between them.
Mr. Kâalso known as Xue Chenxiâwas standing behind the submarineâs observation window at this moment.
Half of his face was hidden in shadow. Only one eye gazed at them coldly and heartlessly, as if looking at a group of lambs waiting to be slaughtered.
That gaze held not a shred of human emotion, only cold calculation and mad greed.
When he saw Gu Yunsheng breathing freely in the seawater like a real deep-sea merman, and the powerful Merman King Ling Xi guarding him, a ripple finally appeared on Xue Chenxiâs face.
It was a twisted excitement, like a venomous snake flicking its tongue, making oneâs hair stand on end.
He was going to capture them all. These perfect experimental subjectsânot a single one could be let go!
“Gu Yunsheng, itâs only been a few days. Don’t tell me you don’t recognize me?” Xue Chenxiâs voice echoed through the seawater via the submarineâs loudspeaker, his tone carrying a shiver-inducing mockery.
Gu Yunshengâs heart was shocked. He instinctively looked at Ling Xi and Sailuo, only to find the astonishment on their faces was no less than his own.
“What are you talking about? I don’t know you at all! How do you know my name is Gu Yunsheng?” He shouted toward the submarine, trying his best to stay calm.
Inside the submarineâs observation window, Xue Chenxi seemed to have heard a funny joke. The eye exposed outside the shadow flickered with a playful light.
“What? After living comfortably in that little wooden cabin for a few days, youâve already forgotten your old friend?” “Speaking of which, I am quite impressed by the power of that ring of yours, Mr. Gu.”
Little wooden cabin? Ring? Gu Yunsheng froze. Fragments flashed through his mind like a flint-strike: on the day of the tsunami… the powerful energy released by that ring!
Gu Yunshengâs eyes instantly widened. An unbelievable thought exploded in his mind: Xue Chenxi… Mr. K…
They were actually the same person?!
“Xue Chenxi, you are Mr. K?” Gu Yunshengâs voice was somewhat distorted by shock, and his body trembled along with it.
He instinctively took a step back. The churning seawater almost swept him into the deeper depths. Fortunately, Ling Xi and Sailuo reacted quickly, interlocking their fingers with his tightly so that he wouldn’t be swallowed by the dark undercurrents stirred by the submarine.
Gu Yunsheng stabilized his form, his gaze fixed on Xue Chenxi behind the observation window.
Just as Ling Xi and Sailuo were about to launch an attack, Gu Yunsheng squeezed their palms, signaling them not to act rashly to avoid falling into the man’s trap.
Xue Chenxi turned his gaze toward the pale-faced Sailuo, his tone meaningful. “I remember this Mr. Sailuo. He once made some ‘contributions’ to us, though unfortunately, a small deviation occurred during the experiment…” A cold light flashed in Ling Xiâs eyes. He naturally knew Sailuo had once been a subject in the laboratory, and he knew it was Gu Yunsheng who had risked danger to save him.
This human was attempting to use Sailuo to sow discord!
Gu Yunshengâs heart was shocked. He suddenly looked up at Xue Chenxi, his gaze sharp as a knife. “What did you do to Sailuo?!” He couldn’t help but have a bad premonition about his previous guess.
Xue Chenxi didn’t answer directly. He just leisurely took a delicate small bottle out of his pocket and shook it in front of Gu Yunsheng. “Normally, an experimental subject like him wouldn’t be qualified to enjoy follow-up services. However, for Mr. Guâs sake, I can make an exception this once.” His tone then carried a trace of cruel temptation.
“This bottle of potion is the latest result of my personal research,” Xue Chenxi shook the small bottle, his tone carrying a trace of imperceptible pride. “It can effectively alleviate the pain caused by experimental side effects.” He paused, his gaze landing on Sailuo with a hint of playfulness. “It can even… help him recover a portion of his original abilities.” He observed Gu Yunshengâs expression, and seeing that he seemed a bit wavered, he continued to throw out the bait. “Mr. Gu, I know you care about your friend a lot.” He deliberately emphasized the word “friend.” “Don’t you want to help him escape the pain and gain a new life?”
Gu Yunsheng didn’t speak. He just stared tightly at the potion bottle in Xue Chenxiâs hand, a trace of struggle flashing in his eyes.
Of course he wanted to help Sailuo, but he knew Xue Chenxi would never be so kind-hearted.
“What do you want?” Gu Yunshengâs voice was somewhat hoarse.
“Itâs simple,” a mischievous smile hooked the corner of Xue Chenxiâs mouth. “Letâs make a deal.”
He put away the potion bottle, interlaced his fingers, and leaned forward slightly. His tone carried a hint of unquestionability. “I, Xue, have always been fair in my dealings. Iâll give you what you want, and you give me what I want.”
As Xue Chenxi spoke, he stared at Gu Yunsheng with burning eyes. “I only want the ring on your hand. In exchange, this bottle of medicine is yours.”
Xue Chenxi leaned back, his hands resting casually on the armrests of his seat, looking as if victory were in his grasp. “You know business in this world is about give and take; I don’t do losing trades.”
To the side, Ling Xi had long grown impatient. He hated the long-winded talk of humans the most.
He quietly mobilized the surrounding seawater, waiting for an opportunity to strike, ready to give Xue Chenxi a fatal blow once he let his guard down.
