Chapter 31: Chapter Thirty — In Grave Danger, Gu Yunsheng’s Fate Uncertain
That black shadow was wrapped in the chill of the deep sea and came with a fierce momentum, as if wanting to swallow them in one gulp! Ling Xi’s heart constricted sharply, and his face turned deathly pale—it was a Megalodon.
Its body was massive, at least twice as large as a normal shark. It was clearly the overlord of this shallow sea area.
“Chi! Na ram khan jing jing!” Ling Xi cursed in a low voice, his handsome face filled with impatience. He looked down at the unconscious Gu Yunsheng in his arms. His injuries couldn’t withstand any delay. If this continued, this human… would really die.
The Megalodon stopped a few meters away. A greedy light flickered in its grey-white eyes, and its sharp teeth were like eerie white bones, making one’s scalp numb. Looking at the sleeping person in the merman’s arms, it swung its tail to churn the surrounding seawater and opened its blood-red mouth toward Ling Xi, threatening him silently.
“Bpai glai glai!” Ling Xi coldly spat out two syllables, as if commanding the giant shark to get lost.
The Megalodon clearly didn’t buy it. It still stubbornly circled around them, looking for an opportunity to strike. It greedily sniffed the sweet scent of blood belonging to Gu Yunsheng in the seawater; its saliva was almost flowing out.
“Giving you face, aren’t I?” Seeing the shark ignore his command, Ling Xi gave a cold laugh. A dangerous aura radiated from his entire body.
Suddenly, a fat squid slowly swam past them. That “it’s none of my business” leisurely posture made Ling Xi’s teeth itch with annoyance. Good for you, squid. You don’t have a shred of insight at the critical moment. You’re simply a “white-eyed wolf” of the deep sea world!
“You’ll do then!” With quick eyes and hands, Ling Xi grabbed that fat squid, ignoring its panicked struggles and the ink it sprayed. He held it in front of the Megalodon and said word for word in extremely standard Merman language: “Ai ngoo! Meung gamlang ha reueng sai dtua!” — “Stupid! You’re looking for trouble!”
Before he finished speaking, Ling Xi struck like lightning, hurling the squid in his hand ruthlessly toward the Megalodon’s head!
Pa! With a loud bang, the fat squid hit the Megalodon’s face squarely. The poor squid was instantly “deformed,” exploding with a large amount of ink. The originally fierce and aggressive Megalodon instantly turned into a black “black sesame rice ball.”
The Megalodon was clearly stunned by this sudden attack. it shook its head desperately, wanting to shake off the ink on its face. In the end, it only made things worse, and its entire face was dyed black. It looked like a drowned rat pulled out of an ink pool—ridiculous and laughable.
“Hahahaha…” Ling Xi laughed quite unkindly. The laughter echoed through the seawater, full of mockery and teasing.
The Megalodon realized it had been fooled. It instantly became enraged, opening its blood-red mouth to bite toward Ling Xi.
But who was Ling Xi? As the King of the Deep Sea Merman race, how could he be so easy to deal with? He shifted his form and dodged the Megalodon’s clumsy attack as fast as lightning. Then, with a graceful turn, he swung his extremely long blue fish tail. With the momentum of the seawater, he struck the Megalodon’s head heavily.
“Get lost, you idiot!”
The Megalodon was hit so hard by Ling Xi’s tail that it saw stars. It fled in a sorry state.
“Tch, useless thing!” Ling Xi looked at the retreating back of the Megalodon and curled his lip in disdain. The seawater rippled with his movements.
But the coldness in his eyes melted instantly when he looked down at the person in his arms, turning into a tenderness that was too deep to dissolve. Gu Yunsheng’s face was pale and his breathing was weak. His body floated lightly with the flow of the seawater like a piece of seagrass that could be washed away at any moment. His brows were tightly furrowed as if enduring great pain in his dreams.
“Yunsheng, pull yourself together. I will definitely save you…” A trace of panic flashed in Ling Xi’s ink-blue eyes, as if he were holding onto the last ray of light that was about to dissipate. He held Gu Yunsheng tightly, as if afraid that if he let go, the person in his arms would disappear.
His cold fingertips lightly stroked Gu Yunsheng’s cheek. His heart constricted sharply, as if grabbed by an invisible hand. Not daring to delay any longer, Ling Xi held Gu Yunsheng and sped toward the deep sea like a streak of black lightning.
The light around them gradually dimmed. The originally colorful coral reefs and schools of fish also disappeared, replaced by a deathly silent darkness. This was the junction between the shallow and deep sea, a forbidden place known as the “Black Sea.” The seawater of the Black Sea showed an eerie ink-green color, like a massive piece of rotting jade. No sunlight reached here all year round, and the seawater was bone-chillingly cold. Everywhere carried a sinister and terrifying aura, but Ling Xi didn’t care about any of this. His heart was now full of thoughts for the fragile life in his arms.
This ghostly place is bottomless. I can only see various strange-looking creatures swimming around in the pitch-black water, glowing with green light—it makes one’s hair stand on end!
“Sss sss…”
A massive sea snake swam past Ling Xi. It was dozens of meters long and as thick as a water bucket. Its body was covered in black scales. A pair of blood-red snake pupils stared tightly at Gu Yunsheng in Ling Xi’s arms. From time to time, it flicked its red tongue, making a hair-raising hissing sound.
“Get lost!” Ling Xi coldly spat out two words. A powerful aura radiated from him, and the surrounding seawater seemed to tremble. Anyone who dared to approach Gu Yunsheng—even if it were a god—he would kill without hesitation.
The sea snake felt the dangerous aura emanating from Ling Xi. After hesitating for a moment, it finally swam away unwillingly.
Ling Xi continued forward holding Gu Yunsheng. However, the danger had only just begun.
Boom…
A loud bang came from the seabed. Following that, a massive tentacle burst out of the water. With an overwhelming momentum, it smashed ruthlessly toward Ling Xi!
With quick eyes and hands, Ling Xi held Gu Yunsheng and dodged rapidly. The tentacle just barely missed his body, stirring up a massive splash. Even in such a thrilling moment, Ling Xi looked down at Gu Yunsheng in his arms. As if afraid of disturbing him, his movements were incredibly gentle.
“Roar—”
A massive octopus slowly rose from the deep mud on the seabed. It was dozens of meters tall, with eight thick tentacles waving. Every tentacle was covered with sharp hooks that glinted coldly in the ink-green seawater.
“Damn it, to think I’d alarm this thing!” Ling Xi cursed in a low voice, a trace of solemnity flashing in his eyes. This giant octopus was one of the overlords of this sea area; its strength was unfathomable. Even the Deep Sea Merman King couldn’t afford to be careless.
Splash! The giant octopus’s eight tentacles struck simultaneously, surrounding Ling Xi. The massive suckers carried powerful suction, as if they would tear him to pieces!
“Seeking death!” Ling Xi gave a cold snort. The seawater around him churned violently, and a powerful force erupted from within his body! He would never allow anyone or anything to harm Gu Yunsheng!
The weak breathing of Gu Yunsheng in his arms was like a sharp needle stabbing hard into Ling Xi’s heart, causing the violence and madness in his mind to almost burst out of his body.
Ling Xi gritted his teeth and squeezed out a sentence from the depths of his throat: “Get the hell away from me!” The power of the Deep Sea Merman completely erupted within his body. The surrounding seawater seemed to come alive, turning into countless eerie blue light blades. Carrying the aura of death, they madly tore at that massive shadow.
The collision of tentacles and light blades wasn’t a deafening roar but a hair-raising tearing sound, like a wail from the depths of hell. The seawater was dyed an eerie dark red by an unknown liquid. That thing was thrashing and struggling, yet it only intensified the fear in Ling Xi’s heart.
Ling Xi’s gaze grew fierce. With a thought, he placed Gu Yunsheng on his back. His hands rapidly formed seals, and he muttered under his breath. In an instant, the surrounding seawater seemed to come alive, turning into massive water dragons that coiled toward the giant octopus!
The water dragons bared their fangs and brandished their claws, letting out deafening roars. They tightly entwined the giant octopus, their sharp claws piercing deep into the octopus’s skin, instantly drawing blood. The giant octopus twisted its body in pain and struggled desperately, yet it couldn’t break free from the water dragons’ restraint.
Ling Xi’s eyes flickered with a cold light. He suddenly clapped his hands together and shouted sternly: “I will make you die a miserable death!”
“Boom!”
The water dragons suddenly tightened. The giant octopus’s massive body was instantly squeezed and deformed, making a hair-raising bone-cracking sound. Blood gushed out like a fountain, dyeing the surrounding seawater an eerie dark red.
Ling Xi looked coldly at the giant octopus’s corpse as it slowly sank to the seabed. Only then did he turn around and carefully hold Gu Yunsheng on the reef in his arms.
“Yunsheng, how are you? Wake up!” There was a trace of an indiscernible tremor in Ling Xi’s voice. He reached out and lightly stroked Gu Yunsheng’s pale cheek, his deep eyes full of heartache.
However, Gu Yunsheng had no reaction. He still kept his eyes tightly closed, his breathing weak, as if he would disappear at any moment.
“Yunsheng, wake up, don’t scare me…” Ling Xi’s voice held a hint of pleading. He held Gu Yunsheng tightly in his arms, wishing he could rub him into his own body so that he could feel his temperature and his heartbeat.
Feeling the last bit of warmth on the person in his arms, Ling Xi’s heart seemed to be tightly squeezed by an invisible hand, making him almost unable to breathe. He didn’t dare imagine what he would become if something really happened to Gu Yunsheng…
“No, I can’t let anything happen to him. I must take him away from here!” A trace of decisiveness flashed in Ling Xi’s eyes. He held Gu Yunsheng and sped toward the depths of the Black Sea.
The depths of the Black Sea were even darker, colder, and more dangerous than the shallow sea. Various strange-looking deep-sea creatures lurked in the darkness, radiating greed and bloodthirst. Ling Xi cut his way through, like a god of slaughter. Everywhere he passed, he left a trail of blood. Even so, he didn’t dare relax for a moment because he knew that in the depths of the Black Sea, there were even more terrifying existences…
“Roar—”
Just then, a deafening roar came from the depths of the seabed, appearing to come from an ancient beast, carrying a terrifying aura that made the soul tremble!
Ling Xi’s expression changed, and an ominous premonition instantly arose in his heart.
Splash—!
A massive black tentacle burst out of the water, covering the sky and sun like a streak of black lightning, smashing ruthlessly toward Ling Xi!
Ling Xi’s pupils constricted. He instinctively wanted to dodge, only to find he had nowhere to hide!
“Boom—!”
With a loud bang, the black tentacle smashed heavily onto Ling Xi, slapping him deep into the seabed!
“Puh—!”
Ling Xi spat out a mouthful of blood, but he didn’t care about his injuries. He struggled to crawl up from the seabed, anxiously searching for Gu Yunsheng’s figure.
“Yunsheng! Where are you?” There was a trace of panic in Ling Xi’s voice. He looked around, only to find it was pitch-black; he couldn’t see Gu Yunsheng’s figure at all.
“Yunsheng! Answer me! Where are you?!” Ling Xi’s voice grew louder and more urgent. However, what answered him was only endless darkness and silence…
A fear he had never felt before instantly surged into Ling Xi’s heart…
