Part 2
It took him a good while to realize the other party was answering his earlier question. The youth had figured out what he had asked.
He was just about to retort when he was bluffed into silence by a short command from the person in his arms: “Don’t move.”
The next second, the fiendish man met a pair of cold eyes. The hand he had reached out to grab Lu Xunyeâs shoulder froze in mid-air.
Looking down and seeing something, his face went green, then black, then white.
Finally, he was grabbed by the hair and dragged away from behind by the man called Third Brother. Third Brother cursed as he walked, “You idiot, Boss is rushing us again. Why are you dawdling? I’m the one getting yelled at!”
As soon as the men left, Lu Xunye was ruthlessly shoved away, crashing into the wall.
He leaned against the wall, watching the youth frown and look uncomfortable all over. He teased, “Turning your back on me as soon as you’re done, huh?”
An object was thrown over. He scrambled to catch it. Looking down, he saw it was a phone. Just as he realized what it was, a gentle female voice came from the receiver: “Hello, this is the Haishi Public Security 110 Alarm Center. How may I help you?”
Lu Xunye: “…”
After explaining the situation and hanging up, Lu Xunye rubbed the cracks on the phone screen with his thumb and looked at the youth. “You can’t judge a book by its cover, Mr. Neighbor. When did you swipe this? And you even knew my unlock password?”
Shen Yunqian raised an eyebrow. “Guess?”
He had been stunned when the phone unlocked successfully with the birthday on the first try. He hadn’t expected anyone to still use their birthday as a password these daysâweren’t they afraid of losing their ID and phone at the same time?
“Remember to change your password,” Shen Yunqian reminded him kindly.
Without looking back, he walked to the ride-share car parked by the roadside, opened the door, and got in.
Lu Xunye followed. He glanced at the license plate and compared it with the app. It really was the license plate of the driver who had re-accepted the order.
The Next Day
Lu Xunye, wearing pajamas, had just gone to throw out the trash and was about to go back for a supplementary sleep. He watched the floor numbers change on the elevator display.
ăHidden plot fragment triggered. Side Mission Issued: Please proceed to Duming Club to trigger the hidden plot and perfect your charismatic persona.ă
This notification made Lu Xunye frown. “You’re finally alive?”
“Mission. Just wait.” He would deal with it after he slept enough.
Lu Xunye leaned his head against the elevator wall, half-asleep as he watched the floor numbers, yawning.
The elevator stopped when the display showed “3”. The doors slowly opened. Lu Xunye scratched his messy hair and just as he stepped out of the elevator, a strong force covered his mouth and nose, dragging him around the corner.
A handkerchief blocked all possibilities of calling for help or breathing. He struggled, instantly wide awake, but his clear mind uncontrollably sank into drowsiness only moments later.
Realizing there was an anesthetic on the handkerchief, Lu Xunye elbowed the person behind him with all his might. He heard only a short, muffled grunt before a hand chopped the most vulnerable part of his neck, and he passed out dead away.
Before fainting, a blurry figure shaking its wrist flashed before his eyes, yet he had been strangled by the person behind him the entire time.
Itâs a gang job!
This was Lu Xunyeâs last thought.
When Lu Xunye woke up again, his neck hurt terribly. He was lying alone on the floor, the sound of trickling water echoing in his ears.
Recalling what happened earlier, his internal alarms blared. He tried to get up but tripped and fell back to the ground.
Feeling a cold restraint on his wrists, he finally shifted his gaze to his hands.
A pair of shackles locked his hands, and the iron chain in the middle was looped around the other side of a red wooden pillar in front of him.
The surroundings looked like ancient architecture. If Lu Xunye hadn’t turned his head and seen a short-haired middle-aged man leisurely brewing tea, along with a mass of black-clad bodyguards around him, he would have almost thought he had transmigrated again.
“You’re awake?”
Lu Fengâs voice, deep but not aged, drifted over.
In the manâs hands, where veins were visible on the back, the stream of water from the teapot hit the cup walls, making a splashing sound that seemed to provide him with background music, adding an air of calm amiability for no reason.
“Are you blind?” One sitting high and calm, the other coerced and tied up. Even if Lu Xunye had a good temper, he couldn’t help but curse, let alone the fact that he wasn’t good-tempered at all.
“Show some respect to our Chairman! Are you asking for a beating?!”
“Eh.” Lu Feng waved his hand to stop the bodyguard who was about to rush forward to teach Lu Xunye a lesson. “He’s a junior. It’s normal for young people to be hot-headed.”
Junior? Lu Xunye sneered and raised the handcuffs in his hands. “Then, as an elder, what you’ve done isn’t very decent either.”
“If I didn’t do this, would you have come over obediently?” Lu Feng looked at him with a benevolent face.
“Did Zhou Jie send you?” Lu Xunye wasn’t in the mood to banter with him. “Speak. Did she pay you to silence me, or does she want to buy me off?”
Unexpectedly, this uncle didn’t show any embarrassment at being exposed. Instead, he laughed heartily, making Lu Xunye look like a fool.
ăHost, Big Boss, he is your Grandpa.ă The missing-person system returned, offering a weak reminder.
“I am your Grandpa!” Accustomed to bickering with the System, Lu Xunye assumed the System couldn’t fart out anything good, so he cursed back almost without thinking.
As the words fell, you could hear a pin drop in the room.
ăWow, your Grandpa’s face just froze!ă The System exclaimed exaggeratedly.
Lu Xunye: “…” If only it used this tone when issuing missions and awarding points, it wouldn’t be so stiff that he was constantly reminded this world was virtual.
He stared at Lu Fengâs handsome face, which time had favored exceptionally, zoning out for a few seconds.
Suddenly, a voice carrying authority that allowed no rebuttal awakened his attention… Wait… he is actually quite young.
“Good brat… what did you just say?” The man dropped his cup in anger, but he had no time to care about the expensive shattered porcelain at his feet.
The man, who a second ago had appeared approachable, suddenly changed his aura completely. Anger dyed his brows and eyes, and the row of people behind him fell silent, not daring to breathe loudly.
Instantly, Lu Xunye had the illusion that the room temperature had dropped below freezing.
The hair on his body stood up, and he couldn’t help but slander in his heart: This setting where the temperature drops as soon as someone gets angry, treating normal people like they aren’t human, really doesn’t need to be so detailed.
Countless gazes stared straight at Lu Xunye, waiting for his answer. It was as if the moment he repeated his treasonous remarks, he would be swarmed and beaten to a pulp.
He silently gripped the iron chain between the handcuffs. Because of the pillar in between, he couldn’t exert force, nor could he stand up. The rough inner side of the iron cuffs dug into his flesh due to the tension.
After a long while, Lu Xunye looked up silently to meet Lu Fengâs gaze. Just as the System was sweating for its Host and preparing to advise him that a wise man doesn’t fight when the odds are against him…
It saw the youth, whose face had been as dark as ink just a moment ago and who seemed ready to be stubborn to the end, suddenly curve his eyes and grin. “I was asking, has Grandpa been in good health lately? Have you been eating on time? has your gout flared up again?”
“As expected of my Grandpa, you look younger again! Simply blindingly handsome! Anyone who didn’t know would think you were my uncle.”
This face-changing speed astounded everyone present.
Only the System was speechless at its Host’s behavior of raising his own seniority while sucking up to someone… He really won’t take a single loss.
Lu Xunye didn’t feel there was anything wrong with him. He even gave a thumbs up as he spoke. However, sitting messily on the floor, the crisp sound of the chains rattling with his movements broke the picture of “benevolent elder and respectful junior.”
To the System’s astonishment, the middle-aged man who had been affectionately called “Grandpa” by Lu Xunye actually looked better. He even raised his hand to signal the bodyguards to unlock Lu Xunyeâs handcuffs.
