The Cannon Fodder Lets Loose and Steals the Protagonist Shou Chapter 65.2

Part 2

“…Do you not eat?” Lu Xunye sat up straight and placed the items under the table.

“That’s not it. I just think the Lu family genes aren’t entirely bad. You have the potential to be a househusband, Mr. Lu.”

“Didn’t I say Miss Wen should practice her acting elsewhere, not on me?” Lu Xunye went straight to the point. “If you’re here to have me help you catch my second uncle cheating, I’m afraid I can’t help. I haven’t planned on breaking ties with the Lu family yet.”

“How could that be? Am I such a bad person?” Miss Wen feigned sadness, raising a hand to pitifully wipe away “tears.” Seeing Lu Xunye’s cold expression, she felt it was quite boring. She gave an awkward cough, took a USB drive from her bag, and pushed it across the table with her finger. With a faint smile, she said, “Take this back and have a look. I think you’ll be interested.”

Lu Xunye toyed with the cold little object in his hand. “Is this really all you came to give me?”

Just then, a server came over with two lattes. “I just ordered them while I was waiting for you,” Miss Wen said nonchalantly. “I heard the Lu Group is having a new product launch next week and has invited many media outlets. Old Man Lu intends to announce your identity at the launch.”

Lu Xunye looked at the exquisite latte art in the cup and silently pushed it away. “And?”

“Lu Yan has been following this new product development. He wants to use this launch to prove himself. You’ll know the rest once you check the USB drive. When the time comes, I’ll need your help to put on a play.” Miss Wen rested her chin on her hand and looked at the sunset outside. She murmured, “Be careful. He might make a move against you soon.”

Everything should come to an end.

Lu Xunye returned to the apartment complex with his groceries. On the third floor, at the end of the fire escape corridor, one of the two apartment doors was open.

Si Jin’yan’s eyes were bloodshot and he looked exhausted. He was staring at Shen Yunqian with an expression of intense excitement, his hands trembling as he gripped the other’s arms. His voice was hoarse.

“I… I knew you weren’t dead. I remember everything now. I’m the one who failed you.” He looked at him cautiously. “But… could you, for the sake of our past feelings and the fact that I didn’t cause you any actual harm… don’t ignore me. Let’s be as we were before… alright?”

Shen Yunqian’s brows were locked tight. The places where he was being gripped were painful. He closed his eyes and said coldly, “I’ll say it one more time. Let go.”

Hearing this, Si Jin’yan gripped even tighter, as if letting go would mean he would never see the person before him again. Since he took over the Si family, this was the first time he had been so distressed, so humble.

“I won’t! Why is Lu Xunye allowed and I’m not! How long have you two known each other? Why do you protect him every time, even faking your death to trick me!”

“President Si has a poor memory. You saw with your own eyes that the kidnappers cut my rope.” Shen Yunqian looked up at him. “Are you going to claim this was my own directed play this time too?”

“I…” All kinds of past events came rushing back to Si Jin’yan’s mind. Knowing he was in the wrong, he didn’t try to make excuses but instead quickly changed the subject. “I’ve already dealt with that person; he’ll never hurt you again.”

“I was also used. He altered my memories, which is why I did those bad things to you. Believe me, none of it was my intention.” Si Jin’yan spoke almost imploringly. “I know you’ve remembered me. Could you… give me a chance to make it up to you… please?”

“Your compensation?” Shen Yunqian sneered. “Can it bring my parents back to life? President Si should save your compensation for your sweetheart. I can’t take it.”

“Are you jealous?” An irrepressible joy almost burst from Si Jin’yan’s eyes. He pressed, “You still care about me, don’t you?”

“Jian Luoqing saved me. I was just repaying him. Don’t be jealous of him. I know you’re hurt, but your parents’ matter really has nothing to do with me.” He moved his hand down, gripping Shen Yunqian’s hand. “If you have suspicions about your parents’ matter, I can help.”

The moment he gripped him, Shen Yunqian winced in pain, his wrist shrinking back. Tears were forced into his eyes, leaving them misty and wet. Suddenly, a figure flashed before him. The grip on his wrist loosened, followed by a loud bang. Lu Xunye stood in front of him.

A bag was tossed into Shen Yunqian’s arms. Lu Xunye looked at Si Jin’yan, who had crashed into the fire hydrant, and mocked him. “Like a ghost that won’t leave. Is President Si about to go bankrupt? You seem to have a lot of free time every day.”

“F*ck!” Si Jin’yan clutched his stomach as he straightened up, glaring at Lu Xunye with a murderous look. “What the hell are you? Our business is none of your concern.”

Lu Xunye froze, his expression turning sour. He truly had no right to interfere. Seeing his reaction, Si Jin’yan gave a triumphant smirk. “If you know what’s good for you—”

Before he could finish, a firm, clear voice interrupted: “Who are you calling nothing? He’s my boyfriend.”

“The ‘nothing’ here is you, isn’t it?” Shen Yunqian’s face darkened. “As for the past, President Si should just act as though it never happened. Now please leave. My boyfriend is going to cook for me, so I won’t be keeping any guests.”

Si Jin’yan was in disbelief. “You’re lying, aren’t you? Are you really unwilling to forgive me?” He shook his head. “No, no, I don’t believe it. How could you like him? How could you be with him? You must be tricking me. You’re just blaming me for hurting you, for forcing you to watch me with someone else. You’re disappointed in me, aren’t you?”

He tried to suppress the ever-expanding bitterness deep in his heart and took a breath. “Stop lying to me, Shen Yunqian. How could you be with someone else?”

Lu Xunye’s expression looked like he had swallowed something foul. “Even if you have a mental illness, whether you believe it or not is none of our concern, is it?”

A force pulled on his collar. Shen Yunqian’s pale, weak, yet handsome face magnified before Lu Xunye’s eyes. His eyelashes fluttered, and he was about to press his lips against Lu Xunye’s. Lu Xunye’s pupils contracted. He pressed down on the other’s shoulders and leaned in, kissing his brow.

He silently let out a sigh of relief, pushed Shen Yunqian back into the room, and pointedly touched his own lips in front of Si Jin’yan, looking at him provocatively. “Believe it now?”

Si Jin’yan’s fists creaked, and the veins on the back of his hands bulged. His fierce gaze was locked onto Lu Xunye like a trapped beast that had just escaped its cage, looking as though he wanted to swallow him whole. “I’ll kill you!”

Lu Xunye dodged to the side and hastily called for a stop: “Wait! If you want to fight, then do it openly. That kind of sneak attack last time was truly damaging to your reputation. Besides, word would get out and it wouldn’t look good for you.”

“You’re still talking?!” Si Jin’yan continued his attack, but the corridor was narrow.

Lu Xunye shouted as he dodged, “You hit me so hard last time I almost developed trauma, and I didn’t even pursue it. I think I need to represent the Lu family and pay a visit to your uncles to ask how they’ve been disciplined their nephew.”

He blocked the other’s attacks with his arms. “Listen to me. We’ll fight again and I won’t hold you responsible for last time. This time, we’ll both use our own skills. Even if you kill me or maim me, the Lu family won’t pursue the Si Corporation. A good deal, right?”

Si Jin’yan’s anger subsided slightly through the few punches he threw. He stopped his footsteps. “How do you want to fight?”

Lu Xunye silently backed toward the door and crooked a finger at him. “Come a bit closer. It’s more spacious here.”

Si Jin’yan’s mind was filled with nothing but unvented rage. Without suspicion, he walked forward a few steps.

“Lu Xunye.” Shen Yunqian didn’t approve of his actions.

“When I say start, we fight,” Lu Xunye said, giving Shen Yunqian a reassuring look.

Si Jin’yan, having not seen Shen Yunqian inside the room, was losing patience. “Are you going to fight or not?”

“Start.” Lu Xunye’s short command fell. Just as Si Jin’yan’s palm wind swept down, Lu Xunye raised his foot and kicked straight at the other’s groin.

Once he succeeded, he took advantage of Si Jin’yan’s pain and acted swiftly—pulling the door, entering, closing it, locking it, and quickly calling property management to have them remove the man.

The series of actions was performed in one smooth motion.

The screams from outside could still be faintly heard. Lu Xunye leaned against the door, clutching his phone and thumping his chest. “Crap, scared me to death.”

The System and Shen Yunqian, who had witnessed everything: “…”

Receiving their strange looks, Lu Xunye straightened his back and said with complete justification: “He’s a mental patient; even if he kills someone, it’s not a crime. If he wants to hit me, surely he doesn’t expect me not to fight back? I was just shortening the combat time.”

Translator’s Note:

  • Spring Palace Play (昼厎戲/ChĹŤngōng xĂŹ): A euphemism for erotica or sex. Shen Yunqian is referring to having to watch Si Jin’yan with others during his “imprisonment.”
  • Egg-y Crisis (蛋仔危機): As mentioned, “蛋” (egg) is slang for testicles. Lu Xunye definitely delivered on that crisis!
  • Under Three Paths (下三路/XiĂ sānlĂš): Refers to the lower part of the body (legs and groin). In martial arts, attacking the “lower three paths” is often considered dishonorable or “dirty.”

Lu Xunye really said “Work smarter, not harder.” Kicking a scum gong where it hurts is the ultimate cannon fodder survival skill!
