Chapter 18: Wifey Ran Away: Tang Xingye Chose Someone Else, Don’t Want Him Anymore. Part 1
If these words were spoken by someone else, Zhou Lin would have just laughed it off and not taken it to heart.
But Tang Xingye saying it personally had a unique flavor.
The elegant fragrance overflowed from his lips and teeth, rippling with a numbing electric current sensation, causing a reaction in a body that had always been cold.
Zhou Lin: “Xingye, this weekend is my birthday. Can you come?”
“I still have a project report to do.”
This was Tang Xingye’s usual excuse. If he didn’t want to go, he’d use class or project assignments to put them off. It wasn’t completely a lie; for him, studying always came first.
Compared to complicated interpersonal relationships and two-faced people, spending time with knowledge was more pleasant.
“Xingye, you are my best friend. Won’t you come to keep me company on my birthday?” Zhou Lin softened his tone, gazing earnestly at Tang Xingye.
He was born with a pair of very deceptive eyes. When he talked seriously with people, he always gave the illusion that he really cared about you.
Tang Xingye, however, felt no sincerity from it. “…You have so many friends, you don’t lack one me.”
“Those aren’t sincere. Actually, I don’t really have friends.” Zhou Lin sighed deeply.
How could Zhou Lin have no friends?
Tang Xingye’s eyes were cold. He didn’t speak, just stared quietly, looking like go on, continue making things up.
Zhou Lin naturally knew the meaning of Tang Xingye’s expression. “They surround me because of my family; they are all fair-weather friends.”
“What about the others in the dorm?”
“They aren’t interested in this kind of occasion.” Zhou Lin sighed again.
“You are my best friend. No one truly cares about me…”
“Only you are different.”
Tang Xingye: “…”
Hearing the same words applied to himself by Zhou Lin gave Tang Xingye goosebumps all over.
Sure enough, Zhou Lin is unhappy in life, so he wants to act bitchy to disgust him?
“I invited many classmates from our major. You’ve never attended a single ice-breaking party. You can come and try the atmosphere, maybe you’ll like it?” Zhou Lin curved his eyes, issuing the invitation again.
Tang Xingye suppressed his irritation, shook his head slightly to express refusal silently, and prepared to get up and leave.
“Don’t be in a rush to leave.” Zhou Lin directly put his arm around Tang Xingye’s shoulder, half-circling the beautiful Beta in his arms. His eyes locked tightly on the prey; the other party’s lowered, docile brows surfaced with a rippling thin red.
Thinking of Tang Xingye’s personality, Zhou Lin considerately added, “If you don’t find it fun, you can leave anytime.”
Pheromones smelling of gunpowder smoke enveloped him like mist and rain. The warmth of the palm covered his skin. Tang Xingye’s breathing involuntarily grew heavier. He felt like melting cream; that soft, weird sensation struck again.
Tang Xingye didn’t like crowded occasions, especially occasions where his roommates appeared. Every time they appeared, it was like they brought their own spotlight. All topics and praise revolved around them, making all conversation boring.
Tang Xingye loathed Zhou Lin’s gunpowder smoke pheromones, loathed that he clearly knew everything yet still hypocritically leaned in, saying things like “we are friends.”
Zhou Lin provoking him again and again recently had already made Tang Xingye very annoyed.
The current behavior added fuel to the fire, bringing his disgust to a peak.
A banquet? A birthday banquet held by rich people must have many people coming to flatter him, right?
Doesn’t he just want to hide his secret?
Since Zhou Lin insisted on dragging him to this banquet, he didn’t mind letting this “good friend” taste the flavor of making a fool of himself.
Tang Xingye lowered his eyes in thought for a moment. A secret idea popped up in his heart, and he suddenly smiled. “Okay, I’ll go. What gift do you like?”
The cold and devastatingly beautiful Beta’s eyes curved. His light laughter seemed to have little hooks, exceptionally teasing, making one’s heart itch.
On the surface, Zhou Lin maintained that gentle appearance, but a trace of surprise flashed in his eyes.
He didn’t expect Tang Xingye to agree so readily, didn’t expect the Beta who always kept people a thousand miles away to be so easy to talk to.
This realization brought a secret pleasure to his heart. “No need, you coming is the best gift.”
At the same time, a strange sense of incongruity suddenly crept up Zhou Lin’s spine. Too smooth. This wasn’t like Tang Xingye’s nature.
How could someone who maintained boundaries even in daily interaction agree to a last-minute invitation so easily?
Tang Xingye didn’t follow up on that remark. His voice was very light, almost a whisper, saying: “I will prepare it.”
He would definitely prepare a big gift for Zhou Lin.
“Give me the address.” Tang Xingye slapped away his hand, his slender finger tapping lightly on the phone screen.
Zhou Lin paused. “I’ll come to pick you up then. We can go together.”
Tang Xingye looked up at him. A soft smile hung on the corner of his lips, but in his glazed eyes reflecting Zhou Lin, no emotion could be seen. “No need, I’ll go by myself.”
—After all, the “gift” he wanted to give wasn’t suitable for Zhou Lin to see in advance.
On the agreed day, Lu Zhi got up early to style himself. He checked repeatedly, confirming there were no problems. He stared at the chat box, really wanting to send a message, but afraid of disturbing Tang Xingye.
Waiting for the time, finally enduring until the appropriate moment to send the message, preparing to go pick up Tang Xingye.
He pressed send on the content he had typed in the chat box long ago: [Baby, send a location.]
The moment the message was sent, he saw a glaring red exclamation mark!
Lu Zhi’s eyelid twitched. He exited and re-entered, switched networks, even restarted his phone, and sent it again.
The striking exclamation mark popped up again.
Tang Xingye blocked him?!
A buzzing sound rang in Lu Zhi’s brain. That scarlet exclamation mark on his retina kept magnifying. He mechanically refreshed the dialogue box repeatedly. The chat window that once had instant replies now only had cold system notifications.
Unwilling to give up, he opened Little Red Book (Xiaohongshu), only to find Tang Xingye had already deactivated the account, and all posted photos were deleted cleanly.
He stared blankly at the account that had turned into a default username. The email notification sound rang ear-piercingly.
A scheduled email lay quietly at the top of the inbox. The sending time was set precisely ten minutes after the agreed time.
Candy Heart: [You were tricked by me, dummy. Actually, I’m not an Omega. The photos were photoshopped. Everything I said was a lie.]
Candy Heart: [I have someone I like. I don’t like you.]
Candy Heart: [Chatting with you was just because I was too bored and wanted to play someone. Now I’m tired of playing. Just pretend nothing happened.]
Every word Tang Xingye sent made Lu Zhi’s temples throb wildly. He clenched his teeth. This little liar.
Even if he was playing him, or acting cute to muddle through, Lu Zhi was willing to continue playing this game. He also looked forward to Tang Xingye’s reaction.
Lu Zhi never thought Tang Xingye would suddenly flip the table and quit playing, directly blocking him.
This was what Lu Zhi couldn’t tolerate—that to Tang Xingye, he was the same as everyone else.
His face was gloomy. For these two months, Tang Xingye pretended to be an Omega, photoshopped the gland, used a voice changer, and even learned Omega physiological knowledge.
After doing so many things, did Tang Xingye really plan to just let him off lightly like this?
Even if Tang Xingye hated him to the bone, wishing him dead, Lu Zhi wouldn’t be this angry.
Lu Zhi’s face was dark as he gripped the steering wheel tightly. He took a deep breath, calmed his mood, and sorted out his thoughts bit by bit.
Tang Xingye shouldn’t know that he had long discovered his identity. This was Lu Zhi’s only advantage in this game.
He had said it: saying ‘like’ casually, Tang Xingye would regret it.
When Lu Zhi rushed to the dorm, it was empty. He pounded on the door in resentment. The loud bang woke up the Beta resting in the dorm next door.
The Beta got angry, prepared to open the door and curse at whoever lacked manners, banging on doors and disturbing sleep during nap time.
He yanked the door open. The moment he saw the person’s face clearly, his words stopped in his throat.
Oh, it’s Lu Zhi. Then it’s fine.
Young Master Lu banging on doors is a hobby, it’s making music, it’s having fun with the people.
He couldn’t afford to provoke Lu Zhi.
He cowardly prepared to close the door and shrink back into bed.
Lu Zhi turned his head abruptly. He recognized at a glance that this was Tang Xingye’s classmate from the class next door. He rushed up and held the door with his hand. “Classmate, do you know Tang Xingye? Where did he go?”
Lu Zhi’s eyes were shadowed, as if gathering a storm, ready to tear people apart.
The Beta was scared by his terrifying appearance and was about to cry. Isn’t Lu Zhi Tang Xingye’s roommate? Why ask him? And with this tone like his wife ran away with a wild man.
He still answered truthfully, stammering, “Xingye ah, I just saw him go out holding a gift box. As for where he went, I really don’t know.”
Lu Zhi seemed to have the pause button pressed, repeating those two words blankly, “Gift box?”
Seeing this, the Beta hurriedly nodded and added, “Yes, a very beautiful gift box.”
Eh?
Is it a gift specially for him?
