Chapter 23: Being a Dog: I Didn’t Really Want to Be a Dog Either.
The cicadas were noisy, making one irritable.
Baby was ignoring him again. The slap mark was about to disappear.
Lu Zhi thought Tang Xingye was truly a ruthless Beta. For the past two days, he would rather stare at practice problems than spare him a glance.
Are the problems better looking than me?
From far away, he heard two people chattering downstairs, discussing the past of a certain “Disaster Star” Beta.
Lu Zhi narrowed his eyes, his thumb unconsciously rubbing the edge of his phone.
When he heard the three words “Tang Xingye” pop out of that filthy mouth, his body moved before his brain.
“Tang Xingye!”
Lu Zhi’s shout made the two tremble.
The two had been scared silly by the flower pot that suddenly crashed down earlier, and at this moment, they seemed to snap back to reality.
They turned around and saw a stranger Alpha. Thinking he was a witness coming to back them up, the Baby-face even smiled at him. “Bro, you also can’t stand that pretentious Beta, right? We were just—”
Bang!
The mobile phone smashed solidly onto the back of the Alpha’s head. Lu Zhi used 100% of his strength for this strike; the muffled sound of the metal frame impacting the skull made one’s teeth ache.
Lu Zhi grabbed his collar and slammed him into the wall, his knee driving ruthlessly into the other’s stomach. The Alpha grunted, his face turning pale as a sheet, almost vomiting. The nearby Beta wanted to help but was kicked in the bend of his leg by Lu Zhi, kneeling on the spot.
“Try barking one more sentence?” His voice was suppressed extremely low, yet it scraped across the eardrums like a blade. “Maggots climbing out of the sewer like you are worthy of mentioning his name?”
Lu Zhi turned his head, facing Tang Xingye at the stairwell, burning with rage. “There should be a limit to your kindness! For this kind of foul-mouthed trash, you should just smash their heads!”
The two were dumbfounded, wondering if they had gone to hell. Otherwise, how could they hear such cold bullshit?
Tang Xingye, who was coming downstairs to deal with the traces of the flower pot, also froze for a moment.
He lowered his eyes to watch this farce, his gaze pausing on Lu Zhi’s hand.
Lu Zhi followed his line of sight and looked down, only then realizing how tragic his “weapon” looked.
The screen of the latest model phone was shattered beyond recognition, and a few drops of blood that were about to fall hung on the dented metal frame, looking exactly like murder evidence in a crime drama.
Lu Zhi, who was fierce and vicious just a moment ago, suddenly looked as if someone had pressed the pause button.
He felt guilty for a split second, restrained his hostility, walked to the trash can in two or three steps, and threw the weapon inside.
Lu Zhi muttered softly, sounding a bit aggrieved, “I’m not usually like this.”
…
When the Alpha was carried onto the medical cart, the Baby-faced Beta wasn’t injured much, but he no longer dared to make a sound.
The seniors from the Disciplinary Department exchanged glances. The Beta leader pushed up his glasses, his notebook reflecting cold light under the streetlamp. “Student Tang, tell us what happened?”
Tang Xingye lowered his eyelids and spoke coldly. “I was just passing by. I didn’t lift a hand.”
Everyone’s gaze turned to Lu Zhi.
Lu Zhi kept a cold face. “We had a mutual brawl. Do I need to demonstrate the process again?”
After speaking, he threw a vicious glare at the shrinking Baby-faced Beta.
The Disciplinary Minister suddenly started coughing. The person next to him tacitly closed the notebook. “Since nothing serious happened… both sides write a self-reflection.”
Tang Xingye knew this matter would be handled vaguely. Brawls between Alphas always resulted in a slap on the wrist for both sides.
The shattered flower pot had already been cleaned up. Lu Zhi spoke earnestly to Tang Xingye, “Tsk, can you care a bit more about yourself?”
Tang Xingye paused in his action of wiping his fingertips with a tissue. “…?”
Lu Zhi frowned so hard he could crush a fly, his tone extremely serious, acting as if discussing some philosophical proposition about human survival. “Those two scum said such excessive things; why didn’t you aim for their heads?”
Tang Xingye looked at the other’s clear eyes shining with fragmented light and said methodically, “…That was blown by the wind.”
Lu Zhi gave an “En,” then suddenly realized something. He mysteriously lowered his voice. “Was the flower pot too small? Next time I’ll help you find a bigger one.”
He gestured a size as big as a watermelon.
Tang Xingye looked at Lu Zhi for a while, then suddenly smiled.
A very shallow smile, carrying the mole at the corner of his eye, revealing a gentle meaning. Under the setting sun, those cold eyes turned light gray, like lake water after ice melts, clean and without impurities.
The Beta hadn’t given him a good face for a while now; this smile made him feel overwhelmed by favor.
Immediately following, his heart heated up, and he swallowed unconsciously.
Tang Xingye: “I’m hungry.”
Lu Zhi replied “Mm-hm,” and then reacted to what the other party said.
Talking about this and that, he actually delayed Tang Xingye’s meal. Damn it!
Realizing this thought popped up first, Lu Zhi was a bit annoyed that his tongue was itching again.
This kind of fawning attitude would only make Tang Xingye fearless. Relying on his liking, he would push his luck, care less and less about him, and manipulate him.
No, how can a dignified Alpha be led by the nose by a Beta?
The him who was a bootlicker in the past is dead. The current him is an Alpha who has mastered human nature and easily manipulates Betas.
So Lu Zhi said with a foul mouth, “What do you want to eat?”
…
Due to the mutual brawl incident and the interlude of questioning by the Disciplinary Department, the cafeteria was closed. Tang Xingye stared at the sign for new products at the entrance for a few seconds, the arc of his mouth dropping by 0.1 pixels.
The Rock Sugar Snow Pear Soup was gone.
He suddenly turned his head to stare at the silly grinning Alpha, and suddenly found Lu Zhi a bit of an eyesore again.
Lu Zhi was originally immersed in the joy of eating together. Meeting the Cat’s anger-displaced gaze, he instantly understood the cause.
The culprit touched his hair awkwardly. “Let’s go to my friend’s place to eat. What he makes is also good to drink.”
After speaking, he frowned again. “Don’t overthink it. Mainly, I want to drink it too.”
Tang Xingye gave an “En.”
They came to a Chinese restaurant with excellent privacy.
Lu Zhi was communicating with his boss friend. Tang Xingye sat in his seat, holding his phone, replying to the client’s messages non-stop.
The friend’s gaze swept over the quiet Beta not far away.
Fair skin, cold brows and eyes. Lowering his eyes quietly, looking like freshly fallen snow. When he smiled, those glazed eyes flowed with soft honey.
There was a bright little mole on the inside of his knuckle, appearing and disappearing with his movements, looking as if tempting someone to lick it.
Beauty that made one’s mind go blank with just one look.
Submitting to such beauty, falling for this Beta, was truly human nature.
Friend’s wife, really want to bully. But he really couldn’t afford to provoke Lu Zhi.
Damn it, why couldn’t my dad work harder, work harder to be more powerful and influential!
The friend withdrew those subtle thoughts and smiled. “Got it. Serving you the couple’s set.”
“Couple’s set” smashed into Lu Zhi’s heart like a honey candy, sweetening him until the tip of his tongue went numb.
He forced down the corners of his mouth that wanted to rise, cleared his throat with feigned reserve. “Don’t talk nonsense.” But the end of his tone rose uncontrollably.
“I didn’t specially choose this set,” Lu Zhi returned to the seat, a bit afraid Tang Xingye would see through his thoughts. His eyes drifted for a moment, voice hard as a rock. “Just happened to be hungry.”
Tang Xingye gave an “En” without looking up.
Lu Zhi soon discovered that Tang Xingye didn’t care about his little thoughts at all, only focusing on replying to messages on his phone.
His expression turned cold. He stole a glance at the avatar of the person Tang Xingye was chatting with, and his face became even uglier—it was Pei Lian.
Damn green tea. Shameless.
Every day like a child lacking milk, pretending to be obedient and pitiful, pestering Tang Xingye.
Tang Xingye was chatting with Pei Lian about the project content. When they were almost done and the dishes arrived, he exited the chat app.
Lu Zhi’s expression was faint, but his heart was filled with the joy of a victor.
So what if Pei Lian could add Tang Xingye’s contact? So what if he could send eight hundred messages to Tang Xingye?
Right now, the one showing Tang Xingye the menu is me.
The one who can share a bottle of chili sauce is me.
The one who can eat from the same plate of heart-shaped strawberries later is still me!
Tang Xingye finally put down his phone and moved his chopsticks. Lu Zhi was very happy.
Tang Xingye scooped a spoonful of snow pear soup. His pink, full lips were stained with the soup, glowing with a wet luster under the light, making one really want to lick, and really want to kiss.
Yet Tang Xingye looked innocent and unaware.
Lu Zhi’s brain was hot, his canine teeth itching.
He wanted to be a dog again. Only by licking those soft lips could he suppress that surging excitement.
Then, if Tang Xingye acted like an offended cold young miss, face cold, cursing him ruthlessly, and giving him two slaps, that would be even better.
Tang Xingye ate quite a bit. Tasting most of the soup, he put down the spoon.
The taste was clear and sweet, indeed good to drink.
A bit of a pity; it wouldn’t be drinkable overnight, wasted just like that.
Lu Zhi stared at that bowl of soup, his Adam’s apple rolling. “You’re not drinking anymore?”
Tang Xingye pushed the soup bowl slightly outward, gave an “En,” and lowered his head to continue replying to messages.
Lu Zhi took his remaining soup. Tang Xingye tapped the back of his hand with the end of his chopsticks. “Use a serving spoon.”
Lu Zhi paused. “I didn’t really want to use your spoon anyway.”
Tang Xingye’s phone suddenly vibrated. The two words “Pei Lian” popped up on the screen.
Tang Xingye thought he had a problem with the assignment, so he answered subconsciously.
“Xingye?” Pei Lian’s voice came through the speaker, clear and pleasant, carrying a hint of a smile. “Are you still coming to the lab?”
The private room had background music. Hearing the sound, Pei Lian’s tone paused slightly. “…You’re outside?”
Tang Xingye: “En.”
Lu Zhi’s canine teeth instantly crushed the ice cube in his mouth. The crisp crunch crunch sound was particularly piercing in the quiet private room.
Tang Xingye frowned slightly, pulled out a tissue, and stuffed it into Lu Zhi’s mouth without even looking at him. “Be quiet.”
Lu Zhi held the tissue in his mouth, eyes staring gloomily at the phone, wishing he could drag the person on the other end out and beat him up.
Dead green tea again.
Pei Lian narrowed his eyes. Tang Xingye didn’t have the habit of eating out casually. Hearing the vague breathing sound in the background, he probed, “Who are you with? I seem to hear…”
Before, he wanted to go out to eat with Tang Xingye, but it was ruined by Lu Zhi.
Lu Zhi sneered, stirring the ice cubes vigorously with his spoon, making a clanging sound.
Tang Xingye kicked him and said calmly to the phone, “Dog.”
Lu Zhi’s eyes flew open, and he gritted his teeth.
Dog???
To Tang Xingye, does he not even count as a person now?
At least they had been online dating partners? Friends? Roommates?
Tang Xingye is really going too far.
First disliking him for being noisy, now calling him a dog. If they get together in the future, what will become of this?
Lu Zhi naturally wouldn’t indulge the little Beta’s bad temper.
He yanked the tissue out of his mouth, leaned close to the microphone, lowered his voice, and with perfect enunciation: “Woof!”
This clumsy bark made the other end of the phone silent for three seconds.
“……”
How could Pei Lian not hear who this person was?
Lu Zhi. It was Lu Zhi again.
Slut. The slut seducing his Sister-in-law.
An image uncontrollably floated into his mind—the tall Alpha hugging the lean, slender Beta from behind, lowering his head to kiss those soft lips.
Size difference and height difference; how could the Beta resist? He could only tilt his head and endure, held with his feet off the ground, trembling.
Long eyelashes trembling and trembling, fed mouthful after mouthful.
Finally full, overflowing.
Only able to drip-drop onto the ground.
Pei Lian abruptly cut off his imagination, his Adam’s apple rolling violently. Too unbearable. Just imagining such a scene made his temples throb.
He heard himself ask in the gentlest tone, but the knuckles holding the phone had turned white. “You got a dog?”
Tang Xingye looked at the Alpha in front of him baring his canine teeth with dangerous eyes, and expressionlessly slapped his head away.
“En,” he said coldly. “A mad dog.”
