Chapter 44: I’ll Teach You: Accidentally Hurting You.
Tang Xingye’s eyelid twitched. On the first day of school, when he moved into the dormitory, more than one person had envied him for having wealthy roommates. They said that any scraps leaking through their fingers would be enough to feed him for a long time.
Back then, he hated the rich with a passion. He found them all eyesores, thinking that their habit of casually giving things away every other day was just the behavior of prodigal sons.
He hadn’t expected Lin Mo to transfer fifty thousand yuan directly. He really couldn’t tell that Lin Mo—this pretentious guy with those honest features—liked birds this much.
“No way. You get to pet it and feel good, but I get pecked into a sieve.” Tang Xingye covered his neck and immediately took two steps back.
Lin Mo said casually, “I won’t touch it; I’ll watch you touch it. Are you embarrassed to take the money?”
“Consider the extra amount a gift from me.”
So Lin Mo was also a wealth-scattering boy.
“Nothing to be embarrassed about. It’s income earned from my labor.” Tang Xingye discreetly paused the recording button on the phone in his pocket. Now Lin Mo couldn’t even think about taking it back.
“That’s good then. I don’t lack this little bit of money.”
Tang Xingye: “…Oh.” Detestable rich people!
The Q&A livestream today went very smoothly, with people trickling in continuously.
Tang Xingye’s ability to explain problems was strong. Even for those not there to study, listening to the problem-solving process was great for stress relief. Many stayed just to join in the fun.
[Wife, Wife! Why is the livestream ending in half an hour?! Who stole my time, boohoo…]
[Baby’s lips are so pink, like cherry jelly. Let me kiss them.]
[When are you doing the fan welfare draw? Can we see the streamer cross-dress?!]
Tang Xingye had been streaming for a while, so he roughly understood these bullet comments that had nothing to do with studying. When viewers sent these, it meant they really liked the streamer. Most people had no malicious intent and were just running their mouths. Having never met, yet liking someone just through a screen—Tang Xingye put a question mark over this concept.
But knowing it meant they liked him, Tang Xingye didn’t feel the subtle rejection he felt at the beginning. No one dislikes being praised. He was happy that the lessons he prepared with care were appreciated. Of course, the messages appearing in his phone texts were from a perverted stalker, which was a different matter entirely.
Fan welfare was a livestream tradition. He hadn’t decided what to draw for this time yet.
Tang Xingye had been talking for a long time and his mouth was a bit dry, so he reached for the water on the desk. He drank a bit too urgently; some water spilled from his lips, dripping onto the tip of his chin and splashing a little onto his collar.
Seeing water on the desk, Tang Xingye was afraid it would flow onto the computer, so he immediately leaned forward to wipe it. He accidentally bumped the camera. Originally, the frame only captured his hands, but now the lens shifted upward. A cup of water sat on the desk, and at the edge of the frame, faint water stains could be seen on the rim of the cup.
Transparent water droplets slid down the wall of the cup, dragging a winding wet trail across the desktop.
[??! Is this the 500k follower welfare?! It’s the cup Wife used!!!]
[Wife is so skilled!]
[Baby, you are simply a Bodhisattva reincarnated, comforting my ‘little brother’ who is lonely every night.]
After wiping the water and confirming the computer was fine, Tang Xingye breathed a sigh of relief. He sat back in his seat, and his face appeared in the lens.
Lips gleaming with a moist sheen parted slightly, looking like an unconscious solicitation for a kiss.
Tang Xingye methodically took out a tissue, his long fingers pinching it to slowly wipe the corners of his mouth.
With the pressure of his fingertips, the soft flesh of his lips depressed slightly with each touch, then slowly bounced back when released.
The originally dry tissue gradually became soaked, turning translucent and sticking to his fingertips.
Tang Xingye tossed it into the trash can at his feet.
[Hehehe, a tissue covered in Wife’s water. I’ll mix it with water and drink it for three years.]
[Where is Baby’s trash can? I’m going to camp out and recycle it right now!]
[Baby, I can buy the tissue from just now at a high price. Please put it on the shelf and sell it to me.]
Tang Xingye looked at the screen and only then realized his face was revealed. His pupils contracted sharply, and he hurriedly adjusted the camera.
I’m done for! As the notorious “God of Plague” in the school, even if people around him didn’t believe it, he couldn’t withstand the rumors that became truth when repeated by three people. Many fans in the livestream room were from his school. If he was recognized, would his career selling courses end right here?
“Ahem,” Tang Xingye cleared his throat, trying to make his voice sound calm. “Sorry everyone, the camera just now accidentally…”
His words were interrupted by a bullet comment carrying a dazzling special effect. It was a message attached to a Platform Captain entry, floating in golden light at the top of the screen:
[Wife Xingye, finally saw your face reveal livestream!]
The world seemed to stand still for a moment. Tang Xingye could almost imagine the incoming barrage of comments cursing him, calling him bad luck.
But the bullet comments were boiling over in a bizarre way:
[Xingye? Is this the streamer’s real name? Sounds so good!]
[Ahhh, why did you adjust the camera! I haven’t seen enough of the kitten face!]
[Wife, let me look at your face again, I’ll do anything!]
Tang Xingye looked at the frantically scrolling comments on the screen, feeling a bit dazed for a moment.
He leaned closer to the lens, exposing his entire face to the light. If he was destined to be recognized, he might as well be proactive. At least this way, he could control the situation.
His heart skipped a beat. This feeling of being seen was too unfamiliar, making him feel both terrified and inexplicably thrilled.
The comments went even crazier, moving so fast he couldn’t read them. Tang Xingye had to add “tissue” to the blocked words list. The comments cleared up instantly, but suddenly, a comment with an airplane special effect floated to the top.
[Why aren’t gift donations enabled?]
Tang Xingye had answered this question a long time ago. He hadn’t seen this user’s avatar before; it might be a new viewer. He explained patiently, “Because everyone here to listen to the class is a student. I don’t want anyone using their living expenses to buy me gifts.”
Tang Xingye had scrolled past stories of people going hungry to send money to streamers using their living allowances. He wouldn’t judge others’ behavior, but if he took that money, he wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.
He had turned off gift donations, but the platform retained the special VIP entry mechanism. Entering the livestream room would trigger cool effects, and sent messages would stay on the screen longer.
[Wife, I don’t use living expenses. It’s all money I earned from part-time jobs.]
Tang Xingye shook his head. “Keep it for yourself. Eat something good, go out and play, anything is fine.”
[Xing-bao, don’t worry, my family is very rich! My monthly allowance starts at five figures. If that’s not enough, I can rob my brother’s allowance for you.]
How much?
Five figures? Every month?
Tang Xingye was severely shaken by the power of the rich. His eyes opened round and wide.
He needed to drink some water to calm down. So I really am the only poor ghost here.
[Xing-bao, just let me donate. Don’t disdain my love; I’m so poor I only have sincerity and money left!!]
Tang Xingye clicked into the backend to check the account’s spending history, confirming their financial ability was indeed impressive.
He thought for a moment, pinching his fingertips. “Okay then. Thank you for your gifts, but please don’t spend beyond your means.”
“I will donate 30% of the earnings from every livestream hereafter to a charity fund.”
[Wife, you really are a kind, good baby!]
[How is the streamer so sincere? You are the best Knowledge Sector streamer I’ve ever seen!]
Once donations were enabled, the screen instantly exploded with gift effects. Brilliant fireworks, shining diamonds, and dreamy rainbow bridges bloomed in turn within the livestream room, almost drowning out the entire frame. Tang Xingye leaned back slightly, startled by this sudden enthusiasm.
[Wife, your expression looks like a frightened kitten.]
[Even the way you dodge is so cute!]
The comments were still scrolling endlessly. Tang Xingye lowered his eyes, his eyelashes casting a fragile shadow under the light. He reached out to turn off some of the donation effects.
“Thank you for your… love.” The last word was held on the tip of his tongue, his voice so light it was almost inaudible.
[Wife is shy!]
[Then can I get a sweet smile from Baby?]
Tang Xingye looked at the heart effects, his eyes revealing a bright and beautiful smile, like thin ice on the verge of melting in early spring. He blinked slowly, the watery light in his eyes fleeting.
[Wife, then I want to see you cross-dress!]
Tang Xingye didn’t know how many gifts he had received. When he exited the app, he seemingly saw his account hanging on the homepage leaderboard.
His account level was low, making him stand out like a crane among chickens amidst a pile of high-level streamer accounts.
The livestreaming world never lacked good-looking streamers. When this obvious newcomer account appeared in the recommended spot, and fans discussed his “godly looks, substance, and good breeding,” many people scoffed: “Keep blowing smoke! Just another assembly-line streamer pushed by the platform, right?”
But when they clicked into the livestream room and saw the clear, beautiful Beta, they instantly understood. It wasn’t that the fans were exaggerating; it was that they had simply never tasted anything this good!
Tang Xingye remained completely unaware of this. When the competition results came out, his expression was a bit complicated. He was first place, but tied for first with him was Ji Chen.
Good lord, Ji Chen fights every day because his hands itch, yet he secretly studies hard behind everyone’s back!
Following their fixed schedule, Tang Xingye went to find Ji Chen to fight. Ji Chen had promised to spar with him indefinitely.
Ji Chen enjoyed the thrill and excitement of combat. The thought that someone could threaten him, challenge him, or even defeat him at any moment gave him the thrill of adventure.
Tang Xingye rushed forward abruptly, a high whip kick aiming straight for Ji Chen’s head.
Ji Chen raised his hand to block without panic, while his other hand formed a claw shape, accurately clamping onto Tang Xingye’s ankle. He applied slight force with his fingertips, and Tang Xingye immediately felt a burst of soreness shoot from his ankle bone up his calf.
Tang Xingye twisted his waist in mid-air trying to break free, but it only earned him a nimble redirecting motion from Ji Chen. He lost his balance completely, his back slamming heavily onto the training mat.
Tang Xingye gritted his teeth and immediately flipped up. He suddenly changed tactics, closing in on Ji Chen quickly after a feint, attempting close-quarters grappling. A flash of surprise passed through Ji Chen’s eyes, but he quickly recovered his composure.
The two exchanged blows rapidly in the small space, the sound of fists and feet colliding echoing in the empty training room.
In the end, Ji Chen ended the match with an over-the-shoulder throw. Tang Xingye lay face up on the mat, the fluorescent lights creating halos in his vision. He half-closed his eyes, hair sticking to his face, the corners of his eyes stained with sweat, watching Ji Chen’s backlit silhouette leaning over him.
“You’ve improved,” Ji Chen’s voice carried a sense of satisfaction, like a hunter who had just enjoyed a grand meal. He reached out a hand, intending to pull him up.
Tang Xingye stared at that hand for two seconds, then suddenly grabbed it and yanked hard.
Taken off guard, Ji Chen tipped forward. But just as he was about to crush Tang Xingye, he propped himself up with one hand, stopping steadily just a few centimeters from Tang Xingye’s face.
Their eyes met, breaths mingling.
Tang Xingye: “…”
What a pity. Didn’t manage to slam Ji Chen onto the floor.
“Cunning,” Ji Chen whispered, but there was no anger in his voice, rather a hint of appreciation.
Tang Xingye huffed, accepting the compliment.
Ji Chen chuckled lightly, straightened up, and pulled Tang Xingye up along with him. “That’s enough for today.” He walked to the bench, picked up a cola, his Adam’s apple rolling up and down as he swallowed.
“Apply some medicine for me.” Ji Chen lifted his shirt, revealing a wound on his side waist.
Tang Xingye paused for a moment, took the iodine, and saw the clearly defined, powerful abs.
Really showing off inadvertently.
Tang Xingye thought of his own abs that refused to grow and sneered internally.
He unscrewed the cap and soaked the cotton swab. Seemingly gentle, he actually pressed down hard on Ji Chen’s wound. “Did you get this from catching the stalker?”
Ji Chen gave a noncommittal hum and changed the subject. “Why do I feel like you’re angry today?”
“I’m not,” Tang Xingye denied, but the force in his hand didn’t decrease in the slightest.
“Because you didn’t win?”
That was one of the reasons, but Tang Xingye didn’t intend to admit it.
Ji Chen frowned, staring at his wrist, his tone hesitant. “Are you planning to stuff the cotton swab into my wound?”
His pain perception wasn’t distinct, but that didn’t mean he felt nothing.
Personal revenge exacted privately. Caught.
Tang Xingye didn’t change his expression, lying without blushing or skipping a beat. “I’m concerned about you. Testing to see if we can recover your sense of pain.”
Ji Chen raised an eyebrow, his voice carrying obvious teasing. “Concerned about me?”
Tang Xingye was about to argue, but Ji Chen suddenly grabbed his wrist, pried open his fingers, and took the iodine and cotton swab. “That’s not how you show concern. I’ll teach you.”
Ji Chen squatted down, moving close to Tang Xingye’s calf.
Tang Xingye felt Ji Chen was too close; it was a bit weird. He instinctively tried to retract his leg but was caught by a backhanded grip on his calf. “Don’t move.”
Ji Chen rolled up Tang Xingye’s pant leg.
On the thin, bony ankle, there were obvious bruised finger marks, glaringly bright on the snowy-white flesh. Those were the marks Ji Chen had left behind.
“Seems I accidentally hurt you.”
“It’ll fade on its own in two days.” Tang Xingye was indifferent about this. His constitution was such that one point of injury looked like ten points of pain. It looked terrifying, but it only hurt for that split second.
Ji Chen wiped his hands with a tissue and poured iodine onto his palm.
He poured too much; it dripped through Ji Chen’s fingers onto the creamy white skin, the coldness making Tang Xingye’s toes curl.
Immediately after, the large palm covered it, massaging and kneading the bruising on the ankle with detailed movements. The temperature of the palm baked the coolness into a damp itch. The force of the rubbing dispersed the congested blood, and something else gradually mixed into the cool stinging sensation.
His ankle trembled from the ticklish feeling. Tang Xingye wanted to pull back, but was enveloped by the broad palm and dragged back inch by inch.
When Ji Chen’s thumb unconsciously rubbed over his ankle bone, Tang Xingye abruptly stepped on his shoulder with his other foot. “…Enough.”
